Got my cyprus kitchen patterns printed onto fabric just because I really liked the patterns I created for this project and wanted to see them come to life a little bit. 

I got this little copper basket thing to put them in too, as it adds a little contemporary hipster vibe, with that rustic copper trend that is pretty much everywhere.

putting my painting skills to use ( i can actually decorate and do a good job ) 

- It was so strange to be painting the uni rooms I’ve worked in for 3 years, but its cool to step back and look at the space you’ve painted. 

- Catalyst instagram also featured me painting as a little boomerang which was pretty cool!

These pieces are going to be painted black and be place within the show.

Getting things sorted for Catalyst Instagram

- Stories are going to be more sneak peaks, we aren’t going to be sharing peoples work on there just yet. Or until they have been featured at least. 

- Then we have started to feature students, which will be the main type of post for the moment. 

- Then plans:

Before the opening of the graduate show we are planning on following lots of agencies, in cities that people are going to be looking for jobs in. Leaving it until then means that there will be lots of content for agencies to scroll through. 

Then yesterday we worked on the Catalyst bio, and Jonny has edited this to a short caption, which emulates the entire degree show simplistically. 

That way, the catalyst brand can continue on after graduate show, its not just about the week its about the journey.

Getting more posts:

So we posted the D&AD pencil as a 9 square & have begun to showcase people in 3 squares with the branding. 

Just to push the number of posts up and get more people to look at our account.

I constructed a possible plan for posts for the instagram channel.

If we get the instagram up and running soon the content schedule could look something like this, but at the moment we are all very busy, so I’m not sure if we will end up holding off the instagram until nearer the time.

Regardless of when we get it set up: 

A few definites. 

- Features of each person in the degree show:

- will be 1 square of their name in the degree show branding and then two posts of their work, which could be a video or picture. The posts could be the same project or the same one. 

- Sneak Peaks

- sneak peaks of the graduate show preparation

- Facilities

- photographs of the universities facilities 

- Areas of Focus

- projects that focus on certain areas. Like all typography, motion, UX etc.

- Rules:

Captions must be consistent throughout posts, in formatting.

posts: work in a grid: Post in multiples of 3 to keep a neat grid and visual aesthetic.

Research I found on names of graduate shows for this years event.

This was on the freerange.com website, which is a big event which hosts loads of different uni’s graduate shows. 

So here is a list of uni’s and the names of their grad shows. 

Some don’t have a specific name, for example some are just ‘graduate show’ or ‘summer show’ and oh was ‘uh17′ 

but others do have names, and what I imagine are particularly interesting identities to go with them. 

I really like ‘Thud’ and ‘Carbon’ and I guess ‘Do not Microwave’ is a pretty funny one.

SOCIAL MEDIA FOR CATALYST

TEAM MEMBER FOR SOCIAL MEDIA 

So Jonny is running the social media for the graduate show and we are going to be launching a very cool instagram page.

To get the ball rolling I started to collect some inspiration of nice accounts that we would like Catalyst to look like. 

Summary of vital parts to a strong instagram

A little bit of #tag research - so this area is not my expertise, but here are some hashtags that I came across when researching which I think could work. Essentially, the hashtags will be different depending on the work so we will have to tailor these for each person featured. and also, I didnt know this but there is only a 35 hashtag amount.

Trip to GREEN ROOM STUDIO

There was an organised visit to Green Room studios, to have a look at the work they do and chat to people who work there about the industry. The day was really good, I enjoyed getting to see another studio, as they vary so much. 

Not only did I come away from the visit feeling inspired and excited for my placements (which are in june). I noticed that the design is so similar to what we have in mind for catalyst, which is pretty cool because i guess it means we are on the right track. Obviously we aren’t getting all the walls decked out with lights and stuff like this, but I thought this was some pretty close inspiration.

CATALYST

Step 1: Naming the Show 

So a small group ( we would have liked if more people had joined ) grouped together to nail down the grad show name to a couple of different options. 

There were about 7 of us generating name ideas, sitting on thesaurus.com to find different sciencey related words. It was all a bit of a throw back to school to be honest. 

So with these we narrowed down options to post in a poll on facebook. 

The poll was the best way of deciding because people couldn’t just keep adding different options, they only had a few options.

GRAD SHOW THEME

So for grad show we are going to be collaborating everyone who submitted ideas into one big idea. 

But overall, the ‘theme’ is our original idea. And the tutors are excited to be getting white chemistry jackets and dry ice cocktails. 

Its going to look really cool and the identity team are going to come up with a logo and identity inspired by the periodic table, and elements relating to science will work for icons.

Chalkboard Designs:

The Chalkboards contain all kinds of information, a list of the dishes on offer as well as the menu with prices and also a call to follow on social media. 

Its hard to get all that information in such a small space. 

I made the designs of the chalkboards a lot simpler, promoting the main dish that day on one, then the cyprus kitchen staples on another board. 

Keeping the chalkboards simple, but adding the cyprus kitchen lettering to the top of, with little decorative petals where the space allows for them.

New idea for the condiments/toppings/garnishes:

So how it works: its a ladder, which holds small pots by the attached hooks. 

It would prop up against the side of the stand on the table at the front and take up a lot less space on the table. This space can be used for demonstrations, preparations of testers, anything that will get the attention of customers. 

This method of storage is not only space saving but also quite a trendy storage solution. It’s also very versatile as these pots can hold lots of different things, there could also be one in the cooking space for things like chilli, coriander, oregano, or any other cooking ingredients small enough.
