One of the (many) things that baffles me about Twilight is that the main character is named Beautiful Swan and literally no one ever comments on it. No one makes an Ugly Duckling reference. 

It’s not hard to read an Ugly Duckling narrative into it: Bella feels awkward and clumsy and plain with humans because she was always meant to be a Vampire, and once she becomes one she is where she belongs. 

“Ugly Duckling became a beautiful swan” is not an obscure reference! Bella’s a reader, too, you can’t tell me she wouldn’t know this story, and yet she insists everyone call her ‘Bella’ rather than Izzy or something. She doesn’t want attention and thinks ‘Isabella’ is an embarrassing name … so she then makes everyone call her ‘beautiful swan?’ like from the Ugly Duckling? I cannot suspend my disbelief. 

I don’t know where I am going with this but it’s all weird, man. ‘Swan’ is such a random last name that it feels like she was named ‘Beautiful Swan’ on purpose but none of the characters ever comment on it (except in some of the ad-libs from the Breaking Dawn movie; I think Mike Newton finally acknowledges it in an awkward wedding toast). Edward should be giving long speeches to her about how she’s never been the ugly duckling. The allegedly ‘bitchy’ kids at school should be making jokes about it. It’s so on the nose that no one commenting on it feels super weird to me. 

But then shouldn’t the CULLENS be the Swans? Then Bella would become a beautiful swan?

every decision bella had to make to become a vampire is suddently not important anymore since she doesn't suffer from all that newborn shit.

edward, the guy who literally never wanted her to become a vampire, is suddently all happy about it? there's literally a chapter where he says he's glad she's a vampire now

to make it worse, make the guy who is not a vampire and not her husband the narrator for her whole pregnancy.
