1. Don’t let your sex drive ruin your career.

A recent study revealed that nearly 1 in 5 people have visited a strip club on a work trip, while 23% of people also admit to having witnessed a co-worker cheating on their significant other during work travel.  
I don’t mean to be the fun police over here! In fact, I encourage you to enjoy your opportunity to travel for work. But with co-workers and managers likely present, it would be wise to keep illicit activity at bay during work travel. Don't forget the first reason you are traveling-- your career.
To make sure you walk away from the trip feeling great, ditch the cocktails after happy hour and opt for soda water with lime, or opt to do activities with co-workers during the day.   
2. Watch out for your health.
You have a routine in motion, eating healthy home-cooked meals and hitting the gym after work each night. Now a week-long business trip arrives, and all that goes out the window.
This is not surprising. When you travel, it can be stressful, healthy food and drinks are hard to find and your sleep schedule gets thrown off track. Those who travel 21 or more nights per month are 92% more likely to be obese than someone who travels one to six nights per month. The more you travel for business the more likely you are to have health problems such as high blood pressure or bad cholesterol.
Combat this by doing some quick research upfront. Figure out if your company has policies around what hotels you can stay in while travelling, and check out which options have gym access and good amenities. If that isn't an option, pack your shoes and a jump rope, or resistance bands or do some bodyweight hotel-room-friendly exercise. Look up restaurants nearby that have healthy options and pack a few snacks that you can travel with for emergencies. Travel packets of oatmeal for breakfast or some healthy snack bars can go a long way during travel.

3. Keeping up with work becomes a struggle.
When you are travelling for work, one of the hardest tasks is keeping up with your workload back home in the office.  Your normal day-to-day routine has vanished, replaced with long meetings, commuting and networking events that leave you exhausted at the close of the day.

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) compiled a report analysing carbon dioxide emissions from commercial aviation from 2013, 2018 and 2019. The report revealed that passengers seated in business class are responsible for 2.6 to 4.3 times more emissions than if they fly in coach.

Almost All Small Business Owners Enjoy Travelling For Business
Some 88% of Small Business Owners (SBO) enjoy business travel according to the small business travel statistics in a new report by Capital One. The report offers insights to travel agents for business on travel volumes among small businesses.

The fruits of these measures they say bring about a more motivated staff (94%) and an increase in productivity (93%).  As such, 83% of small business owners now encourage their staff to use their vacation days. A further nine in ten of them encourage their employees to really disconnect from work when they are out of the office.
On the flip side, business owners barely take personal time off with only 32% of them taking fewer days every year. Even when on vacation over two-thirds (69%) of them admit to working on their vacations. They say that on average they worked nearly 3 hours a day on their last vacation. Almost a quarter of them actually turn off their work email notifications when out of the office.
The need to always be available can be seen as being too compulsive. A third of business owners either hand out their personal cell phone numbers or a quarter of them forward their desk lines to their cell phones.
Cost of Travel and Small Business

Working While Travelling Can Be Enlightening
What’s it like to work remotely for a year while travelling the world with your family? Read on to find out. 
Taking your business on the road for a year abroad can offer an invaluable learning experience to those offering corporate travel services - in selling holidays to clients, for example.
“Having had a number of wonderful opportunities with the PTAs to travel to exotic places, it was clear that visiting countries and getting a true feel for their culture was priceless in giving great advice and tailoring working holidays to my clients who usually just book corporate travel,” explains Claire Belsey, who is working part-time as she travels the world with her husband and two young children.
She has gained first-hand experience of “slow travel” – enjoying countries at a leisurely pace – journeying through destinations including Taiwan, Vietnam, Myanmar, Singapore and Malaysia.
Belsey believes the knowledge she has accumulated will make her a better provider of corporate travel services in the long term.
“Meeting local people and immersing myself in their cultures has not only helped me grow as a person but has given me the skills to advise my clients in a way I could never have done from online training,” she says.
KEEPING IN TOUCH
Although Belsey says it has been harder to advertise and market her business while abroad, she believes that by maintaining an online presence, she’ll stay on clients’ radars.
“Most of my clients have kept up with our adventures either on my PTA social media accounts or on the personal Facebook travel blog we set up.
“I have still been able to speak to many [clients] and tailor some superb holidays.”
Belsey has also kept in touch with her clients using email and WhatsApp. She also has help from three nominated PTA “Travel Buddies”, who keep in touch with clients for her during moments when maintaining contact is difficult.
Belsey explains: “The time difference can mean that I am out of sync with my clients and there have been occasions where Wi-Fi or data hasn’t been available.
“For these times, I have some wonderful colleagues who have been more than happy to resolve any issues I cannot deal with.”
INVALUABLE EXPERIENCE
Despite a potential temporary slowdown of her business, Belsey says the PTAs have been very supportive of her decision.
“They have recognised, as I did, that my business will suffer a dip in the short-term, but that in the long-term I will be a far better travel agent.
"I also have the full support of my administration team for ticketing.”
With current and upcoming destinations on the trip including Australasia, Thailand, Borneo, Indonesia, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka and a to-be-confirmed destination in Africa, Belsey is confident she will continue learning on behalf of her clients on this trip.
“I’ve gained insights into countries I’d maybe never have visited on a personal holiday or fam trip, and places I wouldn’t have considered for most clients until now. It certainly wouldn’t be for everyone, but I am treating it as a year’s education, and I am living life with no regrets.”

Why Travel And Travel Expenses Are Difficult To Manage
As companies focus on reconnecting with clients, vendors, partners, and even employees they haven’t seen face-to-face in two years, business travel is coming back in a big way. For corporate travel management companies, though, the return may include a bumpy — and more expensive — ride.
A big reason: The time spent reviewing and managing employee expenses has risen dramatically over the last few years, but for many companies, the travel expense submission and approval process remains overly cumbersome and antiquated. This is especially true as digital and contactless payments move into the mainstream.
“Before the pandemic, I would get maybe two daily alerts when travellers were booking rates that exceeded policy limits,” Holly Bemrose, travel manager, RWE Group UK, Ireland and Asia, told Skift. “I’m getting about 20 each day now.”
Bemrose said the company has approximately 2,000 regular travellers, and she expects its global travel spend to be somewhere between $19.5 million (£15 million) and $26.1 million (£20 million) this year. Those alerts she has been receiving point toward the higher end of that estimate. For example, one UK hotel that RWE’s travellers frequent used to average $119 (£91) per night. Now, that average is closer to $156 (£120) per night.
“I’m definitely seeing that suppliers are trying to reap back some of the money they lost,” Bemrose said. “I understand why. It’s happening across the entire travel industry.”
The increase in costs is about to make a hard job even harder for Bemrose’s peers in the corporate travel landscape, which TripActions explores in a new report, “How Businesses Can Scale Travel & Expense Policy.” As stated in the report, a recent survey of finance leaders conducted by TripActions shows that travel and entertainment is the sixth-largest category of spend for companies — yet it’s the most difficult category to manage.
What’s the secret to making this hard job easier? “We hear a lot of frustration from companies that have cobbled together separate systems for travel booking, corporate cards, and expense management,” Kate McCarthy, vice president of user experience at TripActions, told Skift. “They’ve made it work, but not without endless headaches. One problem is that travellers don’t always know what’s in-policy for them. This means that finance teams have to spend a lot of time reviewing expense reports and may end up rejecting some expenses, which is a frustrating experience for everyone involved.”
Keeping Employees Happy Managing travel expenses isn’t just about the bottom line. In the midst of “The Great Resignation,” it’s also a crucial way to create a more positive experience for employees who are tired of the inevitable paperwork trail that follows their work travels.
“One of our biggest [historical] complaints was the process of submitting expenses,” Bemrose said. “These employees had to spend time away from their friends and family, and then, they had to come into the office and scan their receipts within a certain time frame. Sometimes, the trip didn’t feel worth it because they would spend so much time completing their expense reports.”
Of course, streamlining spending for travellers is just part of the struggle — finance teams then have to reconcile incurred expenses, which can take significant time.
“No one wants more paperwork or busywork,” McCarthy said. “Not travellers, and not the finance team that has to process the expenses. Any time you can reduce annoyances for employees, the happier they’re going to be. And right now, in this competitive hiring environment, companies need every advantage they can get to attract and retain talent.”
Yet despite the need to reduce inefficiencies and eliminate cumbersome processes, many companies have failed to prioritize that reduction of annoyances. As a result, plenty of finance leaders are still using an outdated approach to corporate travel management and expense, including line-by-line reviews of costs and an equally lengthy waiting period for employees who need to be reimbursed — and it’s holding back their business.
Listening to Travellers and Adopting New Solutions for Travel, Corporate Card, and Expense Management So what’s the trick to increasing those satisfaction levels? It starts with something simple: Listening, which is something that Bemrose has been able to do during the past two years of uncertainties.
“Before the pandemic, travel was a system,” she said. “When it worked, it worked. When it didn’t, our travellers would shout about it. During the pandemic, I was suddenly talking to them and spending time on the phone with them. It created a really good relationship with my frequent travellers. Rather than just looking at booking travel and submitting expenses from a strategic, data-focused level, I’ve been able to learn about individual pain points and how to make life easier for them.”
In addition to listening, companies can also increase happiness with travel management by helping get rid of the need for any extra back-and-forth communication. And reaching that goal begins with policy enforcement. As McCarthy said, travellers don’t always know what’s in-policy for them, which can cause a spike in out-of-policy spending, as the one Bemrose has seen. Enforcing policy, in turn, makes it easier for the finance team to do their job. And even though many companies are not yet taking advantage, there is a way to make enforcing policy seamlessly. .

Business Trips Are Back: Here’s What The Brits Say
70% of British workers agree travelling for work and conducting face-to-face meetings strengthens business relationships
Almost half of the prospective business travellers would use work-funded travel to escape their household
Expensing fancy hotels is top of the wishlist for 37% of respondents, as business travel returns
A global leader in expense management and accounts payable automation, is announcing the findings of its latest YouGov survey, aiming to understand current attitudes towards business travel. The data paints an interesting picture of the renewed appetite for travel as a means to strengthen business relationships and escape the household.
Workers have expressed an overwhelming opinion that travel remains important to strengthen business relationships. A survey of 1,202 prospective business travellers asked questions about their motives for travelling and if it still has an important part to play in business.
Key Findings
Everyone agrees business travel is crucial for strengthening business bonds
The large majority (70%) of those surveyed agree that travelling for work and conducting face-to-face meetings will help strengthen business relationships
The sentiment is almost identical regardless of gender or age
Business travel as a means of escape, even if travellers will require a refresher with some business travel tips
Almost half of those surveyed said if offered the opportunity to travel for business, they would look forward to a break away from their household (45%)
Over four in ten (44%) of married respondents said they would be excited to escape the house through business travel
Similarly, nearly half (47%) of respondents with children say they would travel to work in order to get a break from their household
Younger workers aged 18-34 would be most keen to escape the house for business travel at 52% – compared to only 38% for those aged 55+
More children mean more desire to get away for a business trip: 46% of respondents with one child, 49% with two, and 54% with three or more children are looking forward to the potential of business travel

Additional Findings
Are people looking forward to the return of business travel? The answer is yes.
54% of respondents who travel for work stated a preference are looking forward to getting back to business travel
When looking at all respondents, younger workers (18-24) are by far the most eager to get back on the road (34%), with 45-54-year-olds the least keen (20%)
Staying in nice hotels tops the list for business travel daydreams
37% of those surveyed said staying in nice hotels is what they would look forward to expensing the most if allowed on a business trip – the most popular option by far
Only 6% are excited about expensing rounds of drinks for their colleagues
What would employees be looking forward to the most when it comes to business trips?
26% of those surveyed say they would be most looking forward to exploring new cities and countries if allowed to travel for business purposes
22% of respondents would be most looking forward to meeting colleagues, customers and prospects in person again if allowed to travel for work
18% said having a change of work location would be what they looked for the most if allowed to travel for business

In my experience, the best of these is the AMEX Platinum and Chase Sapphire Reserve. Between the two, it’s a matter of personal preference and travel habits. While the Sapphire has better trip protection and a slightly lower annual fee, the Platinum offers access to more airport lounges globally. While Platinum offers Hilton Honors Gold and Marriott Bonvoy Gold status at hotels, Sapphire allows you to earn points in many more ways beyond just prepaid hotels booked via Amex Travel. Both offer excellent value.
Secure lounge access. 
Fast Wi-Fi, free food and drink, and plenty of seating — lounge access is essential for those spending a couple of hours a week in airports. Beyond being able to get some work done or squeeze in some shut-eye, many airport lounges around the world also have showers and changing facilities so you can refresh during a long layover or before you land for a big meeting.
Each airline and alliance has its own access based on status, and you can also get lounge access through the above credit cards. Platinum offers complimentary entry to Centurion, Delta, Priority Pass and others, and Sapphire gets you into Priority Pass lounges . If you don’t have one of these cards, you can purchase Priority Pass directly or buy an individual pass from LoungeBuddy.
Shoot for Gold (status). 
If you fly on multiple airlines, try to get to at least Gold on the one airline you fly most. This will unlock most basic privileges, including express lines, priority boarding, upgrade opportunities, free checked luggage, and maximized points and mileage earning.
If you have to take a different airline, try to stick within the alliance and use the rewards number for the airline you’re closest to securing Gold status on. For example, if you fly British Airways, you can still use your American Airlines AAdvantage number to credit your miles there.
Maximize mileage. 
Book your hotel on Rocketmiles to earn extra points on your hotel stay. You will typically get the same price as every other travel site, but Rocketmiles will reward you with you an additional bonus toward your preferred loyalty program that you can redeem for future personal travel.

Track your expenses. 
One of the worst parts of travelling is dealing with the aftermath of a trip — especially if you haven’t been organized. From lost receipts to charge disputes, it’s dangerously easy for expenses to pile up uncategorized and unaccounted for.
