Camera Styles.
For my FMP looking at all of these films that have the look and feel that I want to go for. I thought rather than using a DSLR and editing the footage to make it look like the classic shakey cam and doesn't look right no matter how you edit it. So rather than playing around and not getting it up to my satisfaction I’m looking into buying an old camcorder that will either record onto DVD or tape this way I get the astestic that I want for my film. Their are pros and cons from doing this such as the quality of the footage will suffer when using the older camera to capture the footage but at least it won't look edited to look like that.
I still believe that the phone ringing scene should be filmed with a DSLR with a 50ml lens and a wide angle lens with a few different shots from all around it just to allow the audience to feel a disorientation going on rather than one static shot I will keep cutting back too.

RESEARCH UPDATE
So from feedback I’ve come to a decision that doing an abstract film about rape has too much risk to execute properly. I got feedback on not being able to connect with the character enough and to build a bond with this person who you're thrown into their world. The whole idea of the film was that there was no attachment and you're exposed to this horrid act and its suppose to make a wider statement that rape can happen to anyone but leaving that void can also cause it to become more a joke or a poke at rape rather than it being really good and questioning the taboos which I’m not willing to take the risk on my FMP. This is an idea for the future with a proper production team. So I’ve changed my idea. My new idea steams from the last idea. Because from the feedback I knew i had to make a scene where you were able to connect with the character but in doing this it becomes a drama rather than a public announcement film. So I was going to do a helpline scene. But this wasn't enough to fuel my creativity so for a film the idea is to take an office looking phone and put it somewhere so obscure that it is so out of place it doesn't make sense and this phone is just ringing... and ringing and then it cuts to a monstrous video of a horror movie type of scene like blair witch with teens in the 90′s trailing through the woods and experiencing the paranormal and my film will just cut back and forth from this phone ringing to this horror scene, Until we reach voicemail. Where I will record voicemails of over the top monstrous rape stories and as this voice over is playing the cut back and forth will gradually get quicker and scarier as the voicemail becomes demonic in sound until the end where theres just darkness. Then credits.

This is my week by week planning on how my FMP should pan out right now we are one week 3 where I am getting the final draft of the script and researching the social and political context... and getting feedback and as of now from the feedback I’ve got I’m changing my film rather than a 3 scene film which is all consistent I’m going to have 3 abstract scenes that all link in a way but would work as individuals. I’m still researching and developing this idea.

The pitch I came up with to pitch my FMP. ‘Lights out’ is the working title as its suggestive and suggests darkness. I like it because it is a sensitive subject but doesn’t give it away. The basic Idea is that it will be a film that questions the stigma behind rape. The film will be shot in POV as the victim as I want to drag the audience into this uncomfortable state of being raped. The idea came from a video online advertising lockable underwear which helps prevent sexual assault and rape, which I thought is so crazy that this has what the world has come to that we have to lock away our genitalia just because some people cant get into their heads that no means no. I want to make this immersive film because I believe art should make you uncomfortable. I threw in a few facts about rape because the statistics are crazy how many rape cases are even reported let alone taken to court and prosecuted. The film will start off in a club with POV and it will be natural and loud as if you were actually in a club and it will be colour full with loads of red. As the drugs from the drug dealer kick in the scene will become more obscure and abstract to make it clear the victim which essentially is the audience is high. Then we will go into the bathroom scene which will be very white but dirty with the clinical feel to make you more uncomfortable with the abstract vision so you cant see but you can make out where you are. I’m writing another scene which is more intimate which will draw out emotions and create a state of mind for the character. The message is that anyone can get raped and that we should question the law about why rape doesn’t get reported and why it should and that rape is never the victims fault and that we need to drop this taboo that people bring it on themselves.
The characters at the audience as the victim, and then we have the hooded youth who is the rapist. Neither of the character will be gender specific just because for this film to work and my message to get across it has to be as vague as possible so anyone can relate. This links into the target audience which is anyone and everyone. There will be a age restriction of 13 just because of the subject but other than that I believe anyone watching it will benefit from it.
The feedback I got was I need to do more research and narrow down about what my idea is and how I will make it so the audience can connect to this “person”, I got feedback about locations because I want to film at the nightclub heaven... And filming in a bathroom. One thing that was brought up was that it would be like a public information film about rape, and how to make the audience connect with them as we won’t see them. Keeping it all vague about genders and who is what is keeping the film in muddy waters and its mainly men who are rapist and how my film will be new and bring something new to the table. And although what I will create will be a very effective film but that its been done before and it needs to be developed and taken further. My film needs context and doesn’t pose any questions. And that I should watch ‘Apple Court Yard’ and read a book to help me develop my idea.
My film is just kind of almost this, this and this. nothing too deep where an actual statement or story line happens theres no resolution. I need to develop the aftermath to make sure it doesn’t just seem like something we’ve all seen before. An idea that I could show how that person has dealt with being raped and how I’m the person for this.
