❛ ugh, it’s official - i need a job. ❜ brynne’s face scrunched up at the idea - she never had a job before, but her scholarship only covered so much of her newly upgraded living arrangement. it was kind of embarrassing that, at this age, she didn’t know where to start looking. ❛ if you could work anywhere in the city, where would you apply ? ❜
it seemed like the number of people who believed in the spirit had been going down lately. the more he traveled through the city, the clearer it became that there was an abrupt shift in the air, and boy, was it frightening! jack seems to be withdrawing into himself. rules existed and there was a balance he had to keep so he kept himself busy with the simplest pranks. a chill in the air when someone wasn't wearing a jacket or blowing some papers from a poor students hands. harmless fun. a distraction from the darkness that was growing in the background.
"suck to suck," he added, not expecting an answer, as he waved his staff, causing frost to form on the ground. "who needs a job anyway.”
“they all suck.”

location : no idea probably a coffee shop or smth
❛ THIS MAY SOUND LIKE a ridiculous question , but … do you believe in the butterfly effect ? ❜
"butterfly?"
jack lifted his head from the iron bench taking a much-needed breather outside what appeared to be a coffee establishment. the aroma of roasting coffee beans was almost intoxicating. they made his stomach happy and his mind ignite with endless possibilities.
"i don't see any butterflies, lady," he added.

“wait, what?” anna blurted out as she came to an abrupt stop, turning confused eyes from the staff in front of her to the boy holding it. “why? and how do you know that? and which monster? not one of the big freaky ones from those attacks a while ago, right?”
jack pouted his lips, preventing her from passing by his staff. he was aware that elsa would be very upset if her sister got into any trouble.. see moon man! he was occasionally a nice guy. “i saw it. i was flying by, looking for the best tree to rest on when THERE!." with a light snicker he clapped, trying to scare her.
“nothing like those big guys. but yeah a monster. smaller. sure! but he was carrying a shovel and no normal person carries a shovel and digs holes and dumps black trash bags in a forest”
“that considered polluting.”

the laugh that passed the young wizard’s lips was riddled with nerves as he considered the other man’s words. it was commonly accepted that the monsters were long gone by now - but what if they were in the woods ? did he really need to go in there ?
❛ aw, come on. i wouldn’t worry about that, ❜ ian said. ❛ we haven’t had a monster sighting in, like, two years. ❜
this guy must be living under a rock. jack stared blankly at him, slowly removing the staff. as he kept himself on his knees. “okie dokie, if you sayyyy so. go” he teased, staff resting on the back of his shoulders, eyebrows lifted.
“take the chance. you look like the type of meal he eats anyways.”

“Of course! You’re so talented.” She fell into step with him. She’d been around enough oddities to notice that he wasn’t your usual human but she felt she could trust him immediately. “I don’t. I’m not very creative. Easter is around the corner but bunnies are great all year round.”
jack didn't need much to be happy. a good tree. cold weather. and the occasional funny. now that was all that he needed. yet, bumping into someone who thought he was talented. that recognition filled his head up like a large red balloon.
"you should see my snowman," he boasted with his chest swelled out as he walked with purposeful strides. what the mission was and no know knew. “WHAT!” he leapt rapidly and took several strides backward in order to face her.
"i don't believe that, you have artist's hands. you should try it sometime" at hearing the word bunnies, his grin faded and he bowed his head.
oh noooooo you wouldn’t think that if you met that damn easter bunny”

She was a little taken aback by his sculpture. It was so cute but also it was so impressed that he’d made that. “First of all, wow! That’s so cute I love it.” She smiled and him and motioned to the sculpture. “And second, it wouldn’t be weird at all and I’d appreciate it!”
“thanks~” jack grinned warmly at the stranger, a trace of color creeping across his pale face as he skipped ahead. gesturing forward with his staff. It's this way!
“you doodle?” he questioned as he kept a slow pace. “i don’t usually draw rabbits, guess the thought of easter must be on my mind or something”

“shit!” i wouldn't go in there if I were you," jack said, stopping the stranger from entering with his staff.
“the monster everyone seems to be talking about like to dig holes in those woods”

She tucked her phone away into her bag as she walked before she stopped someone. “You wouldn’t happen to have any idea where the closest coffee shop is would you? I need a macchiato and a place to charge my phone.”
jack was starting to enjoy this newfound walking freedom. sure! he moved at a slower pace, and traveling between locations was unpleasant enough that he eventually gave up. albeit he did his best. the tip of Jack's staff was dangling on the ground as he rested his weary arms while drawing a circle with two floppy ears, adorable enough to even make bunnymund blush. when he turned to admire his frozen masterpiece, someone approached him with questions of coffee and phone.
“coffee” eyes lit up as he picked up his gaze "i know just the place." he stood up quickly “they got the best coffee in town. if it’s not weird, i show you were it’s at?”

eric let out a chuckle, “you know.. big thing that blows out fake snow. totally a thing.” he had never gotten to truly witness snow back home. their island was never that cold. they had seemingly perfect island weather year around.. except for the rain. that was a regular event in the spring.
“snow dance?” his brow raised in curiosity. “maybe you could give me a little taste and i’ll join in?”
jack furrowed his brow holding the staff close to his body. the spirit had no idea what the outsider was getting at. humans had a knack for saying amusing things all the time. things that didn’t make sense. jack let out a loud chuckle "wait! you want me to dance or something? i'm not much of a dancer, not my thing. but i can” he hadn't even completed his sentence when snowflakes started falling from the sky.
“magical, right?”

⸻ FRUSTRATION BUBBLED up in the pit of their stomach, but marinette would never actually become enraged. years of self-control in fear of being targeted by an evil butterfly, no matter how silly it sounded in hindsight, had taught them that letting negative emotions rule you was the worst possible thing. “ what do you mean? ” they asked with full composure, though they squinted.
“ i’ve done everything you told me to do! i went to new places and made new friends, even picked up one of my old hobbies, which, by the way, i now suck at! what do you mean, did i enjoy it? ” they threw up their hands, entirely unsure. “ what does that even matter? ”
jack emitted a loud, weary breath and exclaimed, "ugh, come on." flinging their hands in the air. the staff was about to touch the ground, a dreadful vision for anyone watching, but his foot caught it with ease and quickness. it seemed it was difficult to get them to comprehend what he meant. but the spirit was no good with words. the point of it all was for them to unwind for once. find some satisfaction or pleasure in their activities. all useless. if it was forced. "all off it matters" he said, inching closer and kicking the staff back into his frigid grasp.
"it’s pointless if you didn’t even enjoy the tasks. you didn’t feel it in your stomach? not even once? it’s like a cozy fuzzy feeling.”
“it didn’t spark anything?"

his walks with max became more and more interesting each time eric would go out. when he heard the voice of another mention making snow he raised a brow in curiosity. “what do you mean just ask?” eric was always the inquisitive guy, not afraid to ask about anything. “you hiding a snow machine in your pocket?”
"snow machine? what! that’s a thing?" he had never witnessed the artificial snow before. in full action at least. nothing comparable to the snow he could make. it was disgraceful how impatient some people were, especially those who like winter sports that involved a little bit of ice, snowy pleasure. "snow takes time," he continued, inching closer and observing with curiosity.
“you know. ask? just gotta do a snow dance and boom snow will come. kinda like a rain dance, but less messy”

alberto let out a little ‘ oof ’ as the snowball hit him but the bright grin on his face indicated that he really wasn’t upset. he was just very thankful for the layers he had on that was preventing him from going full sea-monster. sure, he was definitely more inclined to the warm weather and water in it’s liquid form, but alberto was also the kind of person who put fun over most other things, so he was the best kind of person to rope into a snowball fight. ❝ no fair ! ❞ he pouted. ❝ i need one to throw. ❞
jack recoiled, chuckling in an almost light ethereal manner. there was a small twinkle in his eyes at the way the other responded. it was not often that his actions were accepted with such energy and passion. let alone appreciated. usually, fists were raised to the skies, followed by shouting and cursing. adults were always twice as difficult to convince let loss and have fun. childishly, he said, "i can play fair!" hand reaching for his staff to twirled it in the air, sending a fine dust of winter chill straight into the air that surrounded them.
"it's about to get extra cool," he said, alluding to the snow that was falling overhead. "snowy fun!"

🦁 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ─────────── “ bro, i am chilled ! this is chilly ass weather. ” simba was not used to cold climates. where he lived in the pridelands it was warmer compared to the mountains where it was snowy 365 days a year. adjusting to the california weather was a breeze that is until a literal one came in. simba just hated the cold. point, blank, period. if he could live in the hotter climates always he would. was he also being dramatic in his hoodie ? yeah, maybe so but when wasn’t simba dramatic. “ this is not the fun in the sun weather i was promised. ”
his eyes narrow a bit. “ it’s past christmas. there’s no need for snow now. ”
jack pouted his lips, an reflexive response to ugly words. winter was his specialty. his thing. it was all he knew, made him happy and kept him chill to the core.. on occasions things would spiral out of control. the great blizzard of '88 an honest mistake. the end of the holiday season did not signal the end of snowball fights and winter fun. for the prankster with too much free time, the amusement was just beginning. eyes rolled followed a loud and huff, staff held near as the spirit responded "not chill enough," bringing his staff down and causing the walkway to begin to ice over.
“maybe you should take up ice skating”

it’s almost a comical sight . . kairi bundled into her pink puffer jacket, fuzzy ear muffs placed over her head neatly, colorful mittens covering reddened hands. the other’s comment made her laugh in return until she turns to actually catch a glimpse of him. her eyebrows scrunched together, slowly taking steps towards jack. ‘ are you not cold ? ’ was her immediate question as she noticed the only thing covering him was a mere sweater. soft frown settled on pink lips.
ever so helpful, ever so amiable. she quickly rips off said mittens and ear muffs. offers them to him with both hands outstretched. twinkling eyes looking over him closely. ‘ here, take these. your hands look almost icy. ’
jack stood still as he caught glimpse of the puffy cupcake that was cautiously approaching. momentarily breaking eye contact and to look around at their surroundings. there was no trace of snow, not yet at least. he was saving that for another time.
"aren't you hot?" jack gazed confusedly at the offer, the corner of his mouth turned up while eyes shone brightly under the string of lights that hung above them. the spirit had never before received an offer of clothing from a human. face now crimson as he lowers his chin and takes notices of his hands.
“right, about that. it’s a funny story. kinda long. might bore you.”
heaved a deep breath while gripping his staff firmly, “thanks though, it’s gonna get colder. you ought keep them”

alberto laughed but pulled his hoodie over his head even more. ❝ speak for yourself! ❞ he countered as he shoved his hands back in his pockets. ❝ i would much rather be laying out on the beach in amalfi. middle of summer. sun on my face. ❞ he let out a long, wishful sigh. ❝ i can definitely do without the snow. ❞
jack whirled around in an almost slow motion-like manner, tilting his head in the direction of the speaker and the remarks that followed, as if he had been caught red-handed. the heat was never his thing. the spirit almost suffered a heat stroke while flying over egypt. winter, now that was a different story..it was cold, light, and occasionally dense. a fantastic mixture that usually equalled endless fun.
jack wasn't sure what had possessed him, but the reaction came naturally. one moment he was standing there questioning why anyone would rather the sun over snow days, suddenly boom. sly grin and further intents of mischief, he was now forming a snowball in his palms.
responding abruptly, "maybe you need MORE snow," and hurled the small creation at the young man.

starter for @fr0stedknight ! ( location ; idk bestie somewhere )
⸻ SO. SHE definitely felt like she’d completed jack’s assignments by now. what, she’d gone to the arcade, a pumpkin patch, a party and hung out with her roommate; those all counted as fun activities that got her out of her shell. marinette had accomplished something (and it wasn’t even academic!), and she was stood before him with her arms crossed, her gaze challenging. “ well? ” she asked, almost impatient. “ is that good enough for you? am i deemed out of my shell yet, jack? ” and though her stance was off-putting at the very least, she cracked a proud smile.
it didn’t take much to impress jack. but this, this was something. he wasn’t sure marinette would do it. follow through. not that she wasn’t capable of it but well-.. when it came to the word fun. marinette just didn’t get it. maybe if she just let go? who knows! those were questions that made his head hurt.
“still” broad cheeky smile “a turtle” he teased, leaning in closer, chill in the air and mint on his breath. “come on! did you even enjoy it?” wooden staff keeping him balanced as they stood in the middle of the park in an intense stare-down, mouths twisted and eyebrows raised.
voice lowered, curiosity clear in his eyes “did you feel it in your tummy?”
