CAS REFLECTION - FINAL

- What did you enjoy most about CAS?

The CAS journey through DP1 and DP2 was a time of commitment and systematic work. Thanks to CAS I felt like having a purpose of doing sports, creative works, or service activities regularly. I enjoyed the free choice of activities the most and the comeback of my motivation towards certain sports. Writing regular reflections on my progress in particular strands has made me aware of my development and therefore made the CAS experience more rewarding, therefore enjoyable.  

- What was your greatest challenge and how did you overcome this?

My greatest challenge was to keep up with regular reflection sessions. Despite the benefits they gave me I often did not manage to complete them in time. 

- What have you achieved through CAS?

The greatest achievement thanks to CAS is the involvement in the paediatric hospital volunteering group. This service has taught me a lot both from the perspective of an IB student and a more personal perspective. Despite my struggles in updating my reflections, I have achieved regularity as weekly training. 

- What abilities and skills did you develop most significantly in CAS? 

During the CAS journey, I have developed an immense amount of new abilities and skills from each strand. In creativity, I have improved my artistic skills, especially in drawing and model making. In activity, I have gradually improved my techniques in climbing and tennis, as these are the sports I train most regularly. Thanks to service I have developed my communication skills and learned a lot about children. 

- Which learning outcome did you find most easy to achieve? Most difficult to achieve?

All of the learning outcomes were at a certain point achieved in my CAS journey. The most interesting and therefore also one of the easiest learning outcomes was undertaking new challenges as I am always keen on acquiring new skills and overcoming difficulties, especially in sports. I found that planning my CAS experiences was not always easy as most of my activities did not rely on making long-term projects. I also recognized my weakness of not paying attention to my previously set plans, however, I tried to address that by thinking it better through.

February - creativity 2

After completing the sketches I returned to finalising the model. I incorporated thin thighs and paper into the wires which should work as protection from sun or rain. After I added the new materials the forms and shapes of the original construction completely changed. Therefore, small changes, influence the visual perception.

After spending some time on the wire construction I decided to change perspectives on my project. I tried to sketch some expectations of the final outcome and think of what the single shapes can form. This has taught me how a different approach to a topic can alter and change its perception.

This month I also continued on playing tennis. Recently I feel like improving a lot unlike two months ago. My serves are becoming more and more accurate. Thanks to the changes in performance I learned that after a worse time there is only room for improvement. Therefore I keep having the motivation to continue and train regularly.

This month I continued on climbing. Unfortunately I only manage to go to the gym once a week so my strength is not as good as it could be. However, I can still improve my technique to compensate for that lack.

February - service

This month I participated in an event organised for our younger students from MYP 5 regarding their choice of subjects. My task was to talk about the geography course and answer questions. The students were engaged in informing themselves about their upcoming decisions so talking to them was a pleasure. This experience improved my communication skills and made me reflect on my subject choices.

January - service 2

Today I again visited the pediatric hospital in Warsaw. During that visit we completed some preparations for the upcoming event about animals where some workers of the zoo would visit the children. My task was to collect information about how many children could participate in that event in each department.

January - service 1

Today I visited the pediatric hospital again. I had the task to visit Dom Ronalda Mcdonalda. Today I learned that volounteering at a hospital does not always include caring for children, but organisational taks are also a part of helping. Thanks to that I improved my organisational and communicational skills.

During the second half of the trip I started practicing some tricks with my brother. Unfortunately I did not remember much from last year so I had to revise a lot. After some practice I managed to learn some new grabs.

This month I went for winter holidays and had the opportunity to snowboard one week long. The first few days were pretty intense and I spent some time to remind myself of some basics.

This month I started a new model based on my previous sketches and research. The aim was to link some characterstics to the previous project to create a coherent set of projects. This time my goal was to create an abstract dome. I started off with constructing the frame out of wires.

This month I completed some sketches of famous domes around the world as a preparation for a further project. The drawing process was very enjoyable and fast. I was able to use my previously acquired skills.

December creativity 2

These are my first prints made using my plate. The outcomes are not perfect but I am still satisfied. Even though I am already familiar with this technique I learned more about the etching method regarding different tones, shades and line thicknesses.
