I haven't watched an episode of SPN in ages, but I was just struck by some musings on the difference between the way Sam and Dean view the world. In particular, I was thinking about the scene where they call his voicemail and get the "This is John Winchester. If this is an emergency, call my son, Dean" message and just. One brother hearing another rejection of himself in favour of his brother, and the other being saddled with not just another responsibility, but the hopelessness of having to be the one others ask for help, rather than being able to ask for help himself... idk. It just sums up their relationship really well and also makes me incredibly depressed.

dean and cas are so used to reaching out and casually touching each other with a hand on the shoulder or a casual bump of the hips. it isn’t until they finally get together that dean suddenly realizes they’ve already had that level of casual intimacy for years. bumping shoulders and dean leaning into cas as they walk or pressed together on the couch, or cas’ fingers grazing against dean’s wrist or dean’s hand settling on cas’ lower back. it’s why leaning in to kiss cas feels so easy, so natural. because for years they’ve had this intimacy, they just hadn’t put a name to it until now. “together,” cas murmurs agains dean’s mouth. “together,” dean repeats, chasing cas’ lips in another kiss.
