I know it’s not Halloween but i had this idea and i couldn’t just ignore it. I’ve been super hyperfocused on Madilyn Mei’s music and Promise You Won’t Scream is so Over the Garden Wall-y so I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile

Wirt always looks kinda off in my style i dont know what’s up with that I’m working on it but i don’t draw him enough for it to really matter.

Beast Wirt is the ultimate wild card. You can interpret him as a bunch of stuff like:

1, Beatrice's Family Pet

2, Feral Animal

3, Lost Boy Trying to Find his Humanity

4, Disney Princess

5, Unimaginable Horrors

And I absolutely adore all versions of him

Some thoughts on the first episodes of otgw after a rewatch:

The boys always walk towards the light, whereas the Woodsman disappears into the dark

At the beginning Wirt leaves behind Greg without a second though. Later Greg does the same

Greg listens to Wirt, in every sense. He does what his brother asks of him, even if he banters a bit. He also never interrupts Wirt's rambling. He's like, emotional support

Wirt tries speaking to a turkey. Like you do

The most unnatural thing about this forest is how there is absolutely no undergrowth. How.

Why does Pottsfield have songbird-sized shackles??

Wirt falls. A lot.

He enjoys some of the work they do for Enoch. Maybe he likes gardening. Also tries stealing once or twice

Timeloop that resets every time someone's responsibility is evaded. The brothers have to go about figuring it out on their own

First loop: Greg can't find the correct name for his frog, it all restarts once they fall asleep in the hospital.

Second loop: Wirt blows out the lantern instead of the Woodsman- instant retake.

Third loop: the Woodsman protects the children from the Beast. Best intentions, but protecting Greg is Wirt's job.

Fourth loop: at this point Wirt goes full speedrunner and stomps out into the woods to find the Beast himself. Doesn't go well.

So on and so forth

The only times we hear it sing (and speak I guess) are times it is deliberately trying to intimidate someone. That voice is deep, and strong.
