There are going to be screenings of It's Such a Beautiful Day + ME all over the country. Dates and times are on the Bitter Films page.

Looking at this post, I realize there were probably a couple of things I should've elaborated on.
I'm not sure it's worth getting into the thought process behind the jar thing, but after it popped into my head, I thought I should go through with it because Don Hertzfeldt would probably think it was pretty funny.
And yet when I told him about it, I was kinda out of it at first, so I said something self-deprecating like, "Yeah, this is totally normal behavior." And he gave me suggestions about what to do with it because he wouldn't have me talking about myself like that. He was just that encouraging. Amazing.
Anyway, here's a new photo with the jar in a bunch of bluebonnets. Why? Because.
Tumblr media
Hopefully I actually talk myself into getting the Planks out for Arbor Day this year. It's been a while.

I think I finally snapped.
I barely remember the thought process here, but I posted it because it does seem like the sort of thing Don Hertzfeldt would say.
I really put pencil shavings in a jar.

ME is screening at a horror film festival on April 6th.

Related to a link I'm posting in a sec: During the Q&A at the ME premier screening, someone asked a question about body horror Don Hertzfeldt's films. Don said that he never really thought about that aspect of his work until Ari Aster said something about the script for his upcoming project seeming like a horror movie. Don said that maybe all of his movies can be considered horror movies.
Paraphrasing badly because I didn't want to be really obnoxious with my note-taking. All I jotted down was, "As I recall, it was a horror film," and I assumed I'd figure out the rest later.

Damn, I bet I would've done so good in high school if I was on ADHD meds and learned how to take notes using memes.

UPDATE!!! I haven't posted this on Twitter yet, so y'all are seeing it here first.
The premier screening of ME at the Austin Film Society was followed by a screening of It's Such a Beautiful Day. I snuck into the lobby after the short for what I thought would be a quick trip, but the man himself was there. He is really will chat up a storm with people, so I think I spent maybe 20 minutes trying to see if I could get an opening. I was kinda drowsy by then. I think I blurted "Uh…so…I have your voice in a jar?" and he said "What? Is it some kind of voodoo curse thing?" And I explained it was some weird writing thing. He seemed pretty enthusiastic after that.
He told me I should give it a Coke Zero every so often.

And maybe take it down to the river? I settled for a creek for now.
Tumblr media
He also said that if I broke it, it might unleash some kind of curse, so I'll try to take care of it.
Perhaps I'll actually get some writing done? That'd be good.

Just FYI, and the site's since been updated to reflect this: ME is screening alongside a new edit of It's Such a Beautiful Day. I hadn't seen it in a theater since it was just a series of shorts, so that was neat.
If you're in the Austin area, additional screenings of Don Hertzfeldt's latest short have been added.
Indie filmmaking luminary Don Hertzfeldt will return to the AFS Cinema for a pair of encore screenings of his brand-new animated short film, ME. Following the 6pm screening, Hertzfeldt will join us for a conversation about the making of Hertzfeldt’s newest work and how it fits into his singular career. The 9pm screening will not feature a discussion but will be preceded by an extended introduction by Don Hertzfeldt.

Talking to Don Hertzfeldt about random shit is fun and you should try it if you get the chance.

The short being described here is indeed ME, but it had a weird production history that I won't get into just yet.

I think I understood that less than World of Tomorrow III. Compelling, though.
I totally lost track of my ticket info but I'm here and the show's about to start.
(Yes, I'll put up my phone after the previews)

Kinda tempted to open my askbox for at least a bit after tonight's ME premiere and just make shit up about the show.
I might relay some actual information about stuff like interviews, but we'll see.

Huh. Do I spoil the whole thing? I'll be there.
Don't worry, I doubt I'll be able to. I was at the premiere of "It's Such a Beautiful Day," and even after all this time, I can't formulate a ton of articulate thoughts about it. "Those stick figures made me laugh and cry," is about all I have to say about that. And don't get me started on the World of Tomorrow series. I barely understand what's going on half the time. Compels me, though.

Tix sold out really quickly, but there's talk of adding additional screenings.
Tumblr media
Indie filmmaking luminary Don Hertzfeldt will appear at the AFS Cinema for the first-ever preview screening of his brand-new animated short film, ME. Following the screening, Hertzfeldt will be joined by fellow animation legend Mike Judge for a conversation about the making of Hertzfeldt’s newest work and how it fits into his singular career.
This is happening March 7th. Tix just went up for the general public. And sold out within half an hour. Wow. I got mine.

Huh.
From an April 2023 IndieWire article:
As for Hertzfeltdt’s long-gestating feature “Antarctica,” usual one-man-band will collaborate with a team of animators for the first time. “His scripts is one of the best we’ve ever read,” Knudsen said. “We want to keep going with him.”
I've been wondering about whatever Antarctica is for so long that I don't remember when it was first mentioned.
