It was meant as an acknowledgment. Funfred has little reason to spare his creator's life, and yet he did. True gratitude is difficult to express when William's not sure if he feels it. Nevertheless, Funtime Freddy has done him a service, and that service deserves recognition.

"You refrained from killing me. I...I have an obligation to do...something in return." But what? William doesn't know. He can't fathom what Funfred might need or even want that he's able to provide. And the panda would be a fool to tell him.

So William will have to ask. He dislikes the idea of it, the power it would give someone else over him. Power that he abused when it was his to wield. He can only hope Funfred won't respond in kind.
