“Almost half (49%) surveyed said it would be a major factor in their decision if the position was in sales or was a public-facing role in the company.
A similar proportion of company executives admitted they would discriminate against female staff who did not wear cosmetics on a regular basis, with almost 61% saying it would have a detrimental effect on the woman’s promotion prospects.
Almost 40% said female staff would be much less likely to get promoted if the job entailed meeting people and members of the public.
The survey by the beauty retailer Escentual.com also found that more than two thirds of bosses (67%) would take a dim view of female staff not wearing make-up at key business meetings.
This attitude appeared to be having an impact on women’s confidence, as two thirds of female staff said they would feel much less confident if they were at a high-level meeting without cosmetics on”
Where’s the statistics on women bosses who don’t hire or promote men who don’t wear cosmetics? Where’s the statistics on men who can’t go to a high level meeting without wearing cosmetics because it would affect their confidence? Oh wait

half the time even the academy has no idea what “intersectionality” means and deliberately misread, misrepresent, and decontextualise Crenshaw for their purposes (e.g., trying to “prove” the inadequacy of intersectionality by showing that it fails to be a Grand Unified Theory Of Everything, which it was never meant to be, and subsequently reinventing the wheel)

Queer residents were further vexed by the refusal of probation officers and halfway house supervisors to approve home plans that included same-sex female partnerships. Claire, who knew better than to disclose that she planned to live with the female partner that she had grown quite close to while incarcerated, was devastated when a fellow resident revealed their relationship to a halfway house staff member.
Claire later shared with me that she cycled into a depressive episode that lasted for weeks, after hearing the house monitor declare, “the time for y’all to be touchin’, ticklin’, and gigglin’ is over. Now is when you get serious about who you want to be.”
Indeed, none of the women I met at the halfway house could cite positive past relationships with men, yet all were encouraged to pursue reentry plans that involved men. In fact, residents shared that house staff and probation officers often encouraged plans that involved a male partner, whether or not he was economically secure, but discouraged plans that included a criminally uninvolved, economically secure female partner.

i want you all to know that there is an artist (carmen papalia) who, after he started using a white cane, assembled a 12 foot long white cane and began using it in downtown vancouver. the length of the cane made it functionally useless as a device and the only purpose it served was making him an obstacle for sighted people. dare i say… 2019 goals

Who is Malak al-Kashef?
Tumblr media
Malak al-Kashef is a 19-year-old activist, human rights defender, and transgender woman located in Egypt. She supported a protest against the government.
She is currently being held in an all-male prison, at risk of torture, and facing potentially, the death penalty
She was kidnapped from her home by police.
She faces the potential (fake) charges of “aiding a terrorist organization” and “misusing social media to commit a crime punishable by law.” She has already been subjected to:
Solitary Confinement
Misgendering
Sexual assault under the guise of medical examination
And potentially many other things we are unaware of. She has already been tortured. If released into the general population, she could be murdered by prisoners.
This is now her 127th day in prison (as of July 11th, 2019), and we need to do something.
Here are some ways to help:
- Signal boost.
- Get her name into the media. You think it might sound ridiculous, but the Egyptian government has shown time and time again to respond to negative press attention. Tweeting, blogging, and getting creators to make videos about the subject are not wastes of time.
- Send a fax to the Public Prosecutor, Nabil Sadek. Amnesty International recommends that you use their letter or a version similar to it. Please do edit their letter, as it has now been more than 3 times that her detention has been extended.
- Sending faxes for free internationally is very difficult to find, but you can find low-cost services like GotFreeFax ($0.70). For more options, check out this list. You can also fax (for a cost) at places like OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, and your local library.
Where can you learn more?
Jimmy Snow
Amnesty International
Timeline - Frontline Defenders
Middle East Eye - They do graphically describe the assault/torture in this article.
PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO HELP HER.

i’m having one of those nights where i remember that nobody thinks butches are like, attractive enough to give visibility to. every famous or prominent wlw ship is at least somewhat feminine. none of them have butches at all. yesterday i saw “butch” used as an insult in a book that was marketed as “good for the lgbt community.” basically what i’m saying is can we please get some goddamn love and respect for gnc women i swear to god
