By the way. Before you rush to get a professional diagnosis for a Brain Thing you should really weigh your options. Like do you just want to "prove it" or will this actually give you access to treatment you can't have otherwise? Are the treatment options available worth having the government know you're neurodivergent? Because sometimes it's better to keep things off the record because unfortunately we still live in a very deeply ableist society and you might not want to have more real material oppression stacked against you than you have to

So I’m on a trip with my robotics team and there’s only two “girls” (me, an enby, and a cis girl), so we get our own beds in our own room, but the guys are rooming four to a room, but there’s only two beds in each room. Which means that two guys are sleeping on the floor every night.

I’m not joking. They were literally arguing over who’s sleeping on the floor tonight (apparently they plan on rotating).

And I asked them “why don’t you just share a bed?” And they all gave me the same answer:

“No, that’s weird! That’d be gay!”

And I just looked at them and I decided to break the bad news to them

“If lying next to another guy makes you wanna suck dick, you already wanted to suck dick.”

Sometimes you can’t do everything you want to do. Sometimes you can’t accomplish the things you want because of your disability. Sometimes this might mean not getting to follow the career path of your dreams, or maybe giving up a hobby.

Society likes to push a “you can do anything you put your mind to” message on everyone.

But the truth is, sometimes we can’t. And while I’m not saying not to try, I’m saying please go easy yourself. Give yourself some compassion and don’t be so hard on yourself when you struggle. And if you end up having to accept you can’t do something, please know this doesn’t impact your value. It doesn’t impact your worth.

And it’s okay to grieve the things you have to miss out on.
