It's sickening to think how the world treats the Eastern-European countries - it's like we're barely human, just some numbers not worth noticing, or a butt of a vodka-related joke. Belarus was trending for a second just to be hidden into the convenient 'politics' tag.

My Belarusian friend is in so much stress right now, because she's worried about her family and friends. About her mom, who comes home from work late. Every minute she reads the news feverishly, because so little pours out of Minsk - people pass on USB-drives with VPN software on them, because the Internet has been shut down by the government and very soon cellular connection might be gone too.

Please read up on what's happening in Belarus!

Please spread the word about the injustice!

You really don't have to be european, slavic or Belarusian to care.

what makes my brain explode in relation to the current events in Belarus is the following:

I would lie if I said ‘We are not allowed to protest peacefully’. because the truth is, we are not allowed to show any sign of dissent. ANY. it is natural that violent protests in all countries are quelled. peaceful protests are allowed in many countries. but in Belarus, you CAN’T protest. you are supposed to accept the lie and move on. it’s what they OPENLY tell you in a mocking tone. it’s the most exasperating thing

what happened to TV hosts who made instagram posts condemning the police violence? they got fired immediately

what happened to people who decided to show support to Symbal.by, a local shop selling goods with a white red and white flag which is used by the government opposition and a T-shirt with an opposition slogan? they were snatched away from the queue and arrested

it gets ridiculous. they ordered a person to remove white red and white draperies from their window because the draperies symbolize the opposition flag

and at this point, the government is not even concerned about making it seem like what they do is legal. they just don’t care anymore. they blatantly do their thing. they lie to our faces and they don’t care if we believe them. they make outrageous excuses and THEY. DON’T. CARE

P.S. a very special cherry on top: since ALL branches of power are under direct control of ONE person, justice is outlawed

Not sure how many people are going to see this post, but as a citizen of my country i should spread the information about the chaos happening here. Our country - Belarus - was always known as little peaceful place with similar to Russia culture. It's located in the center of Eurasia, between Russia, Ukraine and Poland. Recently there was election in our country, and by the results, our current president should have left his post. But government is faking actual election results, making our president (who already rules for around 40 years) to rule for more 5 years until the day he dies. A lot of young people don't want him as president anymore. There were giant lines of people to just vote against him. The amount of people voting this year is much bigger than any other year according to our history. A lot of actual evidence that people voted for other candidate. And yet, he won with ridiculous result of 80% against 9% of the candidate people were actually voting for.

THIS IS WHY PEOPLE GOT ANGRY AND STARTED TO PROTEST

Long story short, government completely cut off our internet so we don't share information (vpn is helping so far but disconnects a lot). Police attacked peaceful protestors, creating even more anger and hate. They beat up helpless women and arrest kids who joined protests. Thousands of people on streets for third day now are protesting for fair and free election.

2020 is truly becoming harder

DEAR EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN PEOPLE, if you support communism or really think that Lenin was right, shut the fuck up. Lenin and his company were criminals, who didn't care about people, who romanticized violence, executions, revolution and death.

The occupation of power by the bolsheviks and the creation of the Soviet Union led to authoritarianism throughout the former Republic of the USSR, to a complete lack of empathy in power in relation to the people.

In some places we still have free health care, which means that you are told not to whine and go to work. Free education is a huge, outdated and corrupt system.

Trump is an asshole and a criminal, but at least you have confidence that you can vote against him in a fair election. And we? We have no confidence :)
