Shaw’s Motel of Northampton, Massachusetts opened in 1951, down the street from the Northampton State Hospital. After the hospital closed in 1993, Shaw’s became a home to many of the released patients, most of whom had been hospitalized for decades and had few life skills. Owner JoAnn was not only running the motel but also cared for her residents, making sure all medications were taken and all needs were met.

The motel closed in 2010. It was damaged in a 2013 fire and was demolished in 2016. Condos replaced it. Source

The Magic Castle Inn, pictured in 2018 and 2023. In 2022, the motel sold and the new owners evicted all the residents with 24 hours notice. It was then repainted and left abandoned for a year until it reopened a few weeks ago under the name Developer Inn. Located in Kissimmee, Florida.

Built in 1936, this motel originally opened as the Gables Court and was later renamed the Gables Motel. After over 70 years in business, it closed in 2009 and was put up for sale. By 2013, Victory Outreach purchased the property, removed the neon sign and opened a Christian Treatment Center. In 2021, it sold again for $640k. Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
