ok this blog is BRAND NEW and I need to flesh this out more tomorrow, HOWEVER

is it just me or does anybody else see a resemblance between Maureen Ponderosa and Ms. Klinsky? Especially with the dark hair + the teeth/mouth.

I need to add more to this later, but I was also thinking about in the episode where dennis marries Maureen, Dennis says to Mac “I’m having feelings again, like some sort of 14 year old kid.” The first time I watched this episode, I didn’t think too much about that line- I just figured it was because he dated Maureen in highschool.

However, it’s said earlier that Dennis and Maureen started dating in 10th grade, and 10th grade students are typically 15-16 years old in the USA. However, they still likely knew eachother when Dennis what 14. But the thing that gets me, is in addition to the vague resemblance to Klinsky that Maureen has, the fact that Dennis associates marrying her with “having feelings like some sort of 14 year old” builds a direct correlation between Dennis’ feelings/ability to feel when he was 14, versus his ability to feel now that he’s marrying Maureen.

At first, I thought that this was maybe just because he’s in love with her/is happy to be married. But the more I think about it, it’s odd that the “feelings like some sort of 14 year old kid” comment is used, rather than just saying that he’s in love with her.

Now, what’s the point here? Obviously, as we know, Dennis isn’t in love with Maureen. But I think it goes deeper than “Dennis is using her because he wants to be married.” I think it’s “Dennis sees a resemblance to Klinsky in her, and now he’s able to gain some measure of weird power over Klinsky via Maureen.”

And he also associates her with the time in his life where he was being abused (and perhaps even started dating her in order to make himself + his relationships seem more “normal.”) Hence why he’s not only associating being with her with feeling emotions again (because he now, deep deep down, from his weird, probably even just subconscious POV, has some measure of control over Klinsky). I don’t think it’s a 100% intentional, conscious thing on Dennis’ part.

I think part of him wants to exert power over klinsky via Maureen, and I think another small part of him is reminded of that abuse, and is trying to put himself into situations that remind him of that abuse, because he’s trying to remind himself that it “wasn’t rape”, and trying to force himself to be around people that remind him of that time of his life/of klinsky.

Also here’s a side by side of Maureen and Klinsky. The picture of Maureen doesn’t show her teeth as much as they’re shown in the show, but I think that the dark hair + teeth are quite similar on both klinsky and Maureen!
