- Teddy Boys
Tumblr media
(Elvis)
Regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King".
(Ton up boys/ Rocker)
Tumblr media
Started appearing on the British motorcycle scene after World War II, when there was a general rise of prosperity in working-class youths, the recent availability of credit and financing for young people, the influence of American music and movies, the construction of race track-like arterial highways around British cities, the development of transport cafes along these highways, and the peaking British motorcycle industry and engineering.

the Zoot suit(1930-40s)
The Zoot suit, the 1940s. During World War II, a lot of youths were expressing themselves through their outfits such as the zoot suit. ... The zoot suit was mainly worn by African Americans and Mexican Americans.

Hapshash and the Coloured Coat
- Hapshash and the Coloured Coat was an influential British graphic design and avant-garde musical partnership in the late 1960s, consisting of Michael English and Nigel Waymouth. It produced popular psychedelic posters and two albums of underground music.
-Punks
Tumblr media
The lyrics endorse a particularly sensational, violent concept of anarchy that reflected the pervasive sense of embittered anger, confusion, restlessness, economic frustration and social alienation which was being felt by a generation of disenfranchised youth amidst the declining economic situation and bland music scene of the mid-1970s.

Study trip to Tate Modern
Tumblr media
(Lee Ufan, Relatum,1968,remade 1994)
Form: - Arranged in four section-without this form the artwork’s composition looks abstractive, but simple.
-Only used silver and gray colour so the texture looks cold and urban
Medium: -It seems like the artist only used hyge stainless steel piles(industrail material) to show the modernism in the artwork
- Its scale is huge that it feels like this artwork fill the whole room’s ground.
Content: with its material and texture it seems like the artist want to show the certain, circumstances or period’s industrail matters.
Tumblr media
- The material in the artwork stands out most importantly because it strongly shows the texture and shape of this artwork.
-It’s material and abstractive composition shows the artist’s philosophy which is that everything like human’s relation and cultures are all related to each other.
- This artwork is related to philosophy because the artist used a single material to explore how the different elements relate to one another.
-In the late 20th century, the cold war has been destroyed and form a capitalist system which influences on the development of science technology, this made people to form other social networks so audiences of that time would be started to understand his philosophy.
-The other artworks also used only one material to show strong philosophy and also they all show the East Asian’s modern artwork’s features.
-Lee  Ufan’s sculptural works concentrated on the relationship between the different elements and another. He used flat boards of stainless steel and divided them abstractly, these show the depth interconnections with the relationship.

The Modern Poster
Lithography
Tumblr media
(1796, Alois Senefelder)
-Senefelder was able to exploit the potential of lithography as a medium for art.
-Unlike previous printmaking techniques, such as engraving, that required advanced craft skills, lithography facilitated greater accuracy and textural variety, because the artist could now draw directly onto the plate with familiar pens.
Women in the city
Tumblr media
(Alphonse Mucha, Job)-1898
-Mucha saw a spiritual, even moral, dimension to beautiful art, though that clearly didn’t exclude commercial gigs: his designs advertised railways, beer and bicycles
-This image drew its inspiration from “Sibyls” which was drawn by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel.
-Mucha’s paintings are characterised by the images of women. He used this as a strategic way of drawing the customer’s attention with the women’s feminine beauty coupled with a captivating message about the product that she symbolised.

Industrialisation: the useful and the beautiful
The ‘Golden Age’ of Illustration
John Everett Millais
The Parables of Our Lord(1864)
Tumblr media
Before the work of John Everett Millais, the art of painting was mainly composed of romantic landscapes. Millais was characterized by the use of naturalistic techniques to recreate the precise and detailed paintings of the early Renaissance rather than the romantic expression.
William Morris (1834-1896)
Tumblr media
Red House, Bexleyheath
- proto-modernist?
-Several of the companies he founded were the prototypes of art socialization, recognizing the need for professional designers in the industry.
Walter Crane
Tumblr media
(1877)
- Crane’s work featured some of the more colourful and detailed beginnings of the child-in-the-garden motifs that would characterise many nursery rhymes and children’s stories for decades to come.
-Crane is also remembered for his creation of a number of iconic images associated with the international Socialist movement.
