In Loving Memory of Cline Hutchison
♡ RIP Cline ♡
Cline had a unique story. He had purchased an abandoned house from the early 1900s for a mere $5,000 in this ghost town, and he dedicated himself to its full restoration. His garden was a treasure trove of antiques, collected from the abandoned houses in his town. He lived a simple life, powered by the energy of solar panels he installed himself and cooked his mostly homegrown food in a handmade solar oven. He had little money but he offered us drinks and homemade tacos.
He had a deep passion for animals. He shared incredible stories from his adventurous life with us, stories that left us in awe. Tragically, the day after we left, his loyal 13-year-old dog Sadie was struck by a car and passed away. Even more heartbreakingly, Cline, too, passed away suddenly in his home in August 2017, at the age of 51, less than a year after we met him.
Hanging out in Cline's house was an experience like no other. He regaled us with tales of exploration through the abandoned houses in his town. He lived on a meager 75 cents a day, thanks to his ingenious use of solar power and his glass oven for cooking. He even used to care for 33 cats! His love for animals ran deep, and he had a special place in his heart for them. He once rescued an injured pig that had fallen off a truck on the highway, spending two hours comforting the distressed animal. He was a truly remarkable person with countless fascinating stories to share, most of which couldn't even be posted here. We feel blessed to have known him.
Cline believed that black and white pictures were the only true representations of life because, in his eyes, life was in black and white. I wish I had coloured photos now though.

Hi, new follower here. Someone reblogged one of your photos and I was hooked. I’m more of a fandom blog now but years ago I started this blog for my photography as well.
I really like your work! Also the bit of melancholy in your tag for the abandoned storefront with it not being there now…hit hard. Inspired me to go around my hometown with my new camera and see it through my adult eyes vs the last time I lived here as a teenager.
That is so nice, thanks for the kind words! I am glad it inspired you to start shooting again :) ohh it is kind of sad, I was going through my blog and so many things aren't there anymore.. I haven't really been taking photographs lately either, but I do miss it a lot! I want to take photos again. It makes me so happy when people enjoy these images. I love being able to bring beauty to peoples lives. You should totally take pictures of your hometown! Things can change so much in just a few years. And it would be extra sentimental for you having grew up there. Really appreciate the kind message. :)

Where on the prairies are you from. I grew up in North Dakota, now live in Oregon due to career choices, can't wait to get back on the Prairie!
I am in the Canadian prairies, I hope you can get back to the prairies soon if that's what your heart wants!

Thank you for running this account here, it really lifts my mood to see the prairies on my dash. It's validating knowing someone else finds it as beautiful as I do.
Thank you! I am so glad it lifts your mood. I know how much everyone loves the mountains & oceans, so it definitely makes me feel less alone that you also find the prairies beautiful. They can be a bit bleak because they are so bare, exposed, empty, stark.... But I think it is part of their beauty?

I love your photos so much and I laughed SO HARD when like 3 posts deep into scrolling your blog, you mentioned the MCC. Truly a hallmark of my experience of the prairies, my grandma used to offer my cousins homemade underwear she'd created from bathing suits thrifted from the MCC with the endorsement that they "fit well in the gusset". Toodle-oo!
Thank you so much! 😄 Hahahah oh geez, your grandma's homemade underwear story from the MCC is a true gem, and it's funny how those memories are such a hallmark of prairie life. Toodle-oo, and thanks for the laughs!
