crazy how much the things you consume as a kid inform what you love as an adult

as a child i often watched old horror films with my grandpa and loved cartoons like courage the cowardly dog, billy and mandy, invader zim, and gravity falls. i would eat up my brother's books on cryptids and the supernatural. watching monster quest on history channel.

now i am 23, excitedly watching as many new analog horror series on youtube as i can, loving weird experimental horror, even if its not good, just because it is different. and now trying to develop my own horror webcomic

i am holding hands with my little self and telling her a scary story. this time its one i wrote. she loves it.

Being on Tumblr from ten years ago until now and seeing how it's aged is so funny. When I first got here everything was like "haha lol so random, superwholock, taquitos, tumblr university!" but today I just scrolled past three different memes about tax season

absolutely criminal how falling into bad habits is the easiest thing in the world while developing positive habits feels like fighting a literal war

there is a huge difference between criticizing an institution and criticizing individual behavior. i can criticize the makeup industry without criticizing the 14 year old girl who uses concealer because she’s self-conscious about her acne; i can criticize the plastic surgery industry without vilifying the woman who decided to get a nose job after two decades of pointed comments and bullying. it is intellectually dishonest to respond to an institutional criticism as if it were a personal attack; on the flip side, it is cruel and unnecessary to leverage personal attacks in the name of institutional criticism

if i see one (1) more person respond to a perfectly reasonable beauty-industry-critical sentiment with “but i personally enjoy eyeshadow. why are you attacking people who like eyeshadow :(” or “exactly, all women who wear makeup are miserable and brainwashed” i am going to climb a tree and bite the top of it

One time I was explaining to my dad how unfair it is that every big city has at least a couple gay bars but there are only like 20ish lesbian bars left in the country and he responded with "That's cause gay men have a good party culture. Lesbians don't have time to party, they're too busy debating the sociological implications of things and studying for postgrad degrees" and as much as I wanted to tell him he was out of line for that, as a lesbian who spends all her free time on Tumblr debating sociological implications and messaging other lesbians in discord servers where everyone has a PhD or masters for some reason I felt like I might not be the best person to make that argument
