Back to the present

They held each other until the sun came up. They slowly let go. They walked backwards towards their bases never looking away until they had to cloak.

Engi got back to his workshop. He put the watch on a table. He grabbed his Rubik’s cube and turned it waiting. Spy showed up and took the watch and apologized once more.Spy told him that he informed Pauling. Engi didn’t care, spy was doing what he needed to do but that didn’t make him want to kill him any less. Spy left. Time passed and Engi felt tears, he started shaking. He threw his Rubik’s cube across the room making it break into pieces. He didn’t want to fall apart. He grabbed his tools and started to make things trying to drown himself in work.

Medic got back to his lab. He had put the watch back and now didn’t know what to do. He stared at his collection of medical equipment. He started opening all of his cabinets and dumping all of the items on tables. He started to put things into groups. He finished quickly and started to do math. He needed something to challenge him. The more the time passed the more he resembled the red medic. Grabbing anything and everything to get himself distracted but how can someone distract themselves from lost?

They were terrified at what would happen. They both remembered what they did to soldier and demo. They didn’t want to hate each other. They couldn’t hate each other.

Their phones rang.

Blu medic and red Engi stood in front of the administrator. She had been waiting for something. Medic wanted to start shaking but held it together. Engi wanted to yell and scream and he was thinking of all sorts of colorful words but held it together. The administrator got her thoughts together and explained to them how unprofessional and inappropriate their behavior was. Their teams were failing because of them. With the medic being distracted all the time not only was he ignoring his team he was putting himself in danger. That and their team was already on thin ice. With engi being more busy trying to see the blu medic than his machines it let the blu spy wreak havoc upon his team.

Medic put his head down. He strived to be the better healer and yet he wasn’t doing what he needed to do.

Engi didn’t falter, but he couldn’t believe he had been doing all of that. He was the one responsible for looking out for the spy and being a co leader.

The administrator paused for a few seconds and told them that nothing would happen to them not as a favor but due to plans that were made before this incident.

They both looked up at her trying to see if this was a joke but the administrator didn’t show anything. Engi asked if she was serious. The administrator explained how she couldn’t do anything since technically they were on the same team. They both made a comment. The administrator stared at them and continued that the blu team was too weak and the red team was overpowered. This had not only made the battles boring but made them unfair and unbalanced. Someone needed to be switched so it was decided that the leaders of each team would be switched. For the blue team that meant their engineer and to make things easy they chose red engineer from the red leaders.

They couldn’t believe it. Engi looked at medic and medic hugged engi. They have been so afraid but now they didn't have to worry. They both cried. They thought they would never see each other ever again.

The administrator interrupted their celebration and told engi that he had 12 hours to pack up and move to the blue base. She also told medic to tell the blu engineer to move out and if the engineer didn’t believe him to call Pauling or check his voice mails. Medic took a note of that.

Engi and medic walked out holding hands and smiling.

6 months later

Medic and Engi shared a room that was filled with chaos, blue prints, drawings, and posters. When Engi left the pyro was sad, but understood and gave him a bunch of drawings. Spy gave him one last talk about appreciating this chance and not to worry about the team. Medic just told the ex-blu engineer that he sucked and was glad he didn’t have to deal with him anymore.

After the change Engi encouraged medic to take control. Medic wanted Engi to join him, but Engi told him that he had his turn and now it was medic’s. Sometimes he gives him advice about what to do though. The medic was doing a good job and got the team to improve. At nights when they had a cup of tea they no longer talked about hoping to be able to love each other but instead talked about the wonderful future they had and what they wanted to do with it.

Medic had been staring at the enemy engi for the past couple of minutes. Neither knew about how long it been, and Engi didn’t even know he was being stared at. Medic could have sat there all day watching the engineer set up his nest but the spy had come over and asked why medic wasn’t preparing for the battle. Medic wanted to tell the spy to go away but he was right. He stood up and went to go retrieve his medigun.

Spy thought something was up with medic but he didn’t have anything to go on so he put it to the back of his mind. Although he did want to know what he was staring at, before he could see the round started.

Medic wasn’t all that excited about the round mostly because he knew they would lose. Their team had no leader and the ‘leader’ they did have had no idea what he was doing. He wanted to do something about it, but the team doesn’t listen to him mostly because they think he is too nice to be the leader. Maybe they’re right but he did know that their engineer was not fit for the leader role either.

Engi had been trying to get his sentry up again, sadly something was stuck and it didn’t want to build. The round had been going on for a while and he was a little sad that he hadn’t seen the blue medic. No. He wasn’t sad he was something else. He didn’t miss him at all. He didn’t miss his blue eyes and kind smiles and… he needed to focus. He had found the problem, it wasn’t going to be easy to fix.

Medic was sticking with demo since heavy died earlier. He was barely paying attention. He was wondering if he actually liked engi or if he just thought something else of him. Honestly he hasn’t really thought of a different explanation, but he really didn’t want to go through the drama of getting over it or dealing with those emotions.

A rocket zoomed through the air. Medic fell with ringing in his ears. He couldn’t see anyone. He got up and ran, blu and red mixed. He bumped into a wall. An entrance should be around. Blood covered one of his eyes, the shrapnel must’ve hit him in the head. He heard a teleporter, it must be their engineer’s nest. He yelled for a dispenser.

Engi was confused when the blu medic asked for help, but he quickly opened the dispenser panel and reprogrammed it to accept enemies. He led the medic towards the dispenser. He began wiping the blood from his face. He asked if he was okay, but he wasn't responding, an explosion must have gotten him. He ran to pick up his sentry in case it decided to fix itself at the last minute. He ran back, the blu medic lifted his head and looked at him confused and terrified, but his face relaxed when he saw he was being healed. I do love you don’t I? Apparently the medic thought the same since he asked engi why he loved him. Engi didn’t know how to respond, the medic must be really out of it to even ask that. He heard someone call him. Oh no. He raced to the doorway and answered. It was the sniper telling him to move up, their team was moving towards the enemy base. Engi told him he’ll join them after he fixed his sentry. Sniper believed it and continued to walk.

Medic’s head cleared. He didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t run, his health was too low and he couldn’t stay, he was in enemy territory. How did he even get here? He must’ve token routes away from the chaos. He tried to stand but the red engineer told him to sit, then he asked if what he said earlier meant what he thought it meant. Medic looked down and said he did. Medic then asked if he felt the same. Engi responded yes but wasn’t sure.

They both felt like maybe they could work something out. Engineer expressed that.

Medic explained he had to go and that they would have talk tomorrow before the round started. He told him where to meet up and to have an excuse ready. Medic stood up his health in a better place but was still feeling pain. Engi told him that he could stay for longer. Medic told him they both had places to be and that he could get a med pack.

Engi watched him leave. He wanted to tell him everything right there and then but he needed to fix the sentry before the he caught up to his team.

Engine and medic are hanging out their teams think they are friends but they’re more than friends and had been for a while to the point that they had codes to talk to each other.

They had been together so long without anyone noticing that they grew confident and started sneaking out at night using the cloaking watches from the spies. They talked about life and what they wanted the future to hold. They could hold hands and call each other pet names without fearing that their relationship could be in danger.

Their confidence was their downfall.

Engi was getting careless with obtaining the watch no longer sneaking in and making sure the spy was far away. Of course at some point the spy noticed a gap missing in his cabinet of watches. Thinking that the engineer must have taken it for an upgrade went to the workshop only to find it empty. Odd.

Spy waited until that next night hiding in the corner of the room. Engi stepped in and grabbed it and left not too worried about there being anyone there. Spy followed closely behind.

Engi went to the bridge where he and medic usually meet. He sat down and they talked about their childhoods, something that was left over from the other night. Spy waited close by needing to know why. Was it friendship or love? As soon as the spy heard those three words he knew what was up.

Out of pity or knowing the feeling of someone finding out a secret relationship and wishing he had the time to explain before having to run away, he showed himself and told them that he would have tell Miss Pauling. They were surprised thinking that they were leaving nothing behind. Spy explained how he found out. Told them not to attack him and instead enjoy this last night. Told them that he had no idea what will happen but he hopes they can end on good terms.

Spy left them and waited until the next day to raise the alarms. Medic and engie stared at each other. They hugged each other and started to sway. Thinking about what had happened until this point.

Part 2 will be continued on another day but also yeah! Wrote this in one sitting so if something doesn’t make sense please tell me. Also I’m new to tumblr and have no idea how stuff works so sorry if I can’t comment and stuff. The signature on the art leads to my instagram.
