TTPD Thoughts

It's just wild to me how Taylor clearly meant for "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" to be about Matty and people listen to that song and then have the audacity to think "Yup, these other songs and all her previous songs were about him". She literally said "I don't miss what we had" and "I'll forget you". And you think "love/loss of my life" is for that same man? 🤨

Also the fact remains Harry is the only muse she has ever given a full on album to, the only muse she ever said, with no hesitation, that he was the one who'd float in and out of her life, be the one who you'd always wonder "what if", etc. and they think all her pining songs about a long lost love is not that muse and is instead Matty?! 💀

I still will die on the hill she, in general, has woven multiple muses into songs and the biggest reason for that is Harry. 1989 was the one album she was very obvious with who her muse was and he was in every song. Then everything hit the fan and she became more private and went into hiding. Then comes back with Reputation. And that's where the woven muses happened. Realistically she had very little time with Joe while Rep was being done. Yes, a few songs were 100% Joe but, a lot don't fit and some that "kind of" fit him seem to also fit Harry. I think she started them off about Harry and then maybe wrote Joe into the finish of them. She did it with Lover and now TTPD. Folklore/Evermore were the only ones she mostly used full muses because it was "fictional" and so she had a reason to be more open about the muses.

Also just want to mention in Smallest Man she implies, pretty heavily, he was bad in bed lmao. Yet you want me to believe they "dated" way back when, during his heavy drug use (when it's harder for men to get/keep it up - hell even Halsey had a song that mentions this), hooked up and then kept hooking up over the years and she was pining for a man who she later says was awful in bed? That is not the same muse she has spent over a decade pining for and writing other songs where they hook up - be for real please. 😭 Ain't no one pining for a man who is terrible in bed for a decade.

And I know some people think Guilt As Sin is Harry and it could be a Harry/Matty merge as I think most TTPD songs are, I think it's a bait and switch and she weaves a bit of Matty into the songs to throw off people from Harry. Anyways that song reads two ways for me A) from a Harry stand point she was saying she was pining for him while with Joe and she felt guilty even though nothing happened between them and B) from Matty stand point, I think when they were working together on Midnights her and Joe were in a very bad place and he might've helped talk her into leaving him finally, I believe Matty 100% love bombed the hell outta Taylor and probably "sold her a quick love scheme". He probably mentioned how he'd had a crush on her for years, he'd treat her better/she deserved better blah blah and she maybe started thinking of that and felt guilty because she'd never actually been with Matty previously so how could she be guilty and that's including from the rumors from back in 2014. To me it read she never had slept with the muse at the time and it was all in her head but she was feeling guilty for it and maybe even accused of it. That then makes sense with her calling him bad in bed in Smallest man. She hadn't slept with him previously, then she did last year and was like "Yikes". Again, if that's the case then he can't be the muse she's pined after and had secret affairs with.

The first part, they were 18 and 22 when they first got together and during the beginning of their relationship and "beguiling" means enchanting/charming - and the World was enchanted by them when they were together (aside from the haters) and then even while they were off and on over the years, he was always the one that she said would come in and out of her life and they'd "never be over", all which still fits with that beguiling line.

This is NOT giving me Matty vibes at all and I'll die on that hill. Again, 18 and 22 fits here more than 24 and 25. Sure, you're still growing at 24/25 don't get me wrong but, Matty was very much not saying "I'm going to grow up and come find you one day" at 25 years old in the height of his addiction and during his "I can't be with someone bigger than me because I want success on my own". This is giving "I was 18 when we got together and I need to figure my shit out but, one day we'll be together when I do". This also fits her saying he was always in and out of her life. She's been waiting for him to grow up and come find her again.

She got way more hate during their relationship than he did, as she mentions in Slut! On top of the fact, he dated/had flings with many women back to back and never got shit for it but, she dates men back to back and gets hated for it. Granted, that could fit just about any male if we're honest but, she specifically wrote Slut! about Harry so.

This is giving me very much "we were constantly traveling for work and maybe my jet would cross over yours and we'd end up in the same place and try to make it work and then again when we were so far away from each other". It's also interesting that this album has quite a bit of talk about galaxies/aliens/moons and then circus/con men etc. when the last two MVS we got from Harry were "Satellite" and "Daylight" - Satellite which has the imagery of the sky/galaxy and saying he's waiting for her and then we have "Daylight" which is a circus theme MV.

Here she's saying she dated other men during their time apart but, she was always still waiting for him to return to her and tell her he's grown up, figured out what he wanted, and that it's her.I also get the vibe she mentions men specifically because she was talking about him still being a "boy", so she dated men waiting for him - Calvin/Tom because they were her age range and they were "masquerading" as her boyfriend.

This specific line is what has everyone thinking Matty but, they MET when he was 25. He was not laying all these promises out to her then and that's not what this line is saying to me. It's saying that the muse made all these promises to her BEFORE he turned 25 and then they saw each other again when he was 25 - he told her "I made those as a kid, they've expired now that we're older, they were just fantasies". Harry was 25 when he released Fine Line and when they saw each other at Ed's wedding. My guess is that was the first time they'd seen each other in a while and there was a talk that night and he might've said something along those lines or she took it that way.

All of this to also say the obvious ties of "Peter" and this song bringing the Peter Pan imagery and then "Peter Losing Wendy" reference in "Cardigan" which is obviously about Harry Styles. The fact people want to connect that with Matty now because they think this song is Matty is wild. Matty was not that young when they met, 25 is still a grown ass adult. Technically Harry was 17 when he met Taylor and who knows if they actually dated before he turned 18 or not. But James in Cardigan acts like a 17/18 year old Harry probably would've acted vs a 25 year old man. And even IF Matty and Taylor had a thing back then, it was an incredibly quick fling. Sleeping together and maybe a few dates but, they were definitely never in a relationship. She did not write Cardigan about a short fling.

This is giving Harry's Gucci Lion ring because last year while she was recording she randomly wore that ring of his - never seen before on her and never since. Don't know if it means anything but, back in 2022 he lost it during Cochella and there was a whole thing about fans returning it - so maybe that happened around the time she wrote this song and that triggered her thinking of him as a lion? Also "coward claimed he was a lion" in reference to Wizard of Oz.

Can I also just add this interesting bit. I didn't realize eith the Gucci Lion Ring you can change out the stone. Harry has worn it with a black stone, purple stone and no stone. Taylor wore it with a green stone. So it could very well be the same ring. It looks like he hadn't put a stone back in it since he lost it at Cochella back in 2022 - at least from what I could see in concert photos of him wearing it in 2023. So it's possible if it's the same ring, she put the green stone in it. If anyone can provide when he got the ring - I am curious. Cause when the ring was returned the inside was shown and it's very 👀 Makes me wonder if she gave him the ring?

People are delusional to think they ever actually dated. The ONLY reason I think anything might have happened is because there were quite a few blind items I believe and/or people who claimed to have inside knowledge way back when that those two at least hooked up once or twice. I think maybe they hooked up and she used him as a rebound and that's why Matty reacted so poorly to the whole "I'd never be her boyfriend". Then they became friends again over the years and the whole last year thing happened. They most certainly did not date at any point in the past and it's absurd to see so many people claiming THEY were the couple all her pining songs have been about and THEY were the couple who's been off/on over the years.

Seeing Harry erased is just baffling because essentially the same thing happened media-wise with HS/TS and TS/MH. Her and Matty were only "together" for what..2 months last year? And it was fairly public. But because they'd been friends for so long and there had been rumors they dated back in 2014 people jump through hoops to prove 2 + 4 = Maylor. Where when Haylor were dating for 3 months it was all PR and fake and even though they've been friends over the years and written many songs about each other people cannot see that. Now they finally believe she's been pining for someone all these years, including while with Joe, and there was a great love she lost and instead of realizing it was Harry - it's Matty.

Perhaps we underestimate Matty Healy's role in haylor breaking up in 2015. I think TS might have been more enamored by MH at some point of time because he was part of this critically acclaimed indie band and had given her album a shoutout by wearing the 1989 T shirt. I think Taylor does seek validation from indie groups cos they used to diss her in the past. HS on the other hand was a pop star, was part of a hugely successful boy band that didn't win any critics Awards, and didn't write or control much of his music because the label hired people to do it for the band. So, he did not have the kind of musical icon aura that he has now. He was just a teenage heart throb at the time and his attention probably didn't mean as much to Taylor as that from an upcoming indie band's front man. Maybe even HS felt like he wasn't as good as MH at that point. This could have led to tensions. While, MH probably resented both for their commercial success.

MH has consistently denied dating Taylor in 2014, this is pure speculation they did date. The 2014 MH interactions happened between 19 November 2014 and 8 December 2014. In those 19 days Harry and Taylor were seen together three times. Harry and Taylor broke up 5 weeks later and Calvin was a month after that.

The start is the concert, I say ended 8 December because that’s when Matty lost it onstage and there was a blind he slept with Lindsey Lohans sister which was later reported.

In 16 January 2015: while Harry and Taylor were still together he said:

Right cuz it's Taylor Swift , yet we met each other we exchanged numbers in the same way that a lot of people in this kind of world do. The more I've had to sit with the album and think the more I've come to a few thoughts:

I definitely believe *most* of the songs are about multiple muses. Especially since she specifically mentioned that (was it the prologue? the acquired muses like bruises). I think it's also meant that way to throw off who the songs are about. Specifically, off the top of my head, I'm saying this for But Daddy I Love Him and I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can). On the surface they seem like they're about Matty and I do believe that might've been the initial muse but, once you really look back on her relationships it makes more sense it's about multiple. Fans have tried ruining many of her relationships, Harry was the first and Matty was the second main one. Then you have THAT side of the fanbase who hate every man she's ever been with because they aren't Karlie, Diana, or any woman for that matter. When Midnights came out, the Joe hate started a bit more and I think she's also referencing that because they were still together and she was still in denial.

As for ICFH. She does have a habit of dating men who are a bit problematic for various reasons. Jake and John were too old for her, but John was just a questionable man even if they had been closer in age. Then Harry, who was a "playboy". I honestly don't know much about who Calvin is/was so I'm not sure if he would fit in there too - obviously towards the end she realized he was an ass since he didn't want to give her credit for TIWYCF but, idk if he had some sort of reputation before that. She could also be referencing Joe because after so many years the fact he wouldn't settle down probably made her think "No, guys it's fine I'll fix him and he'll come around". And the obviously Matty.

For other songs, I think two things:

She purposefully referenced drugs and a few other things to make people think Matty as a bait and switch to protect Harry/Haylor.

Or since she does admit she was a bit manic and not thinking right, I think it's possible she did it on purpose to hurt Harry. There is/was always some sort of bad blood between Harry & Matty. Although I think it was more on Matty's side but, it's highly possible Harry was also a bit weary of Matty/Taylor and something happened between them and she spiraled, Matty love bombed her and I do believe they had probably hooked up at some point way back when and she was vulnerable and in a bad place after Joe and whatever happened with Harry and so she got with Matty as both an "eff you" to Harry and because she thought maybe Matty was better than everyone thought. Then after everything went to shit, maybe she tried reaching back oit to Harry or maybe nothing had happened between them and she genuinely thought giving Matty a shot was worth it and didn't think it'd hurt Harry and once they got together and after everything she tried reaching out to Harry, realized he was hurt over the Matty situation, they fought or she was still in a bad place to where she said "eff you" and wrote songs with the intention of "putting him in his place" because she knew fans would associate everything to Matty and it'd hurt Harry.

I definitely believe there's a lot of bait and switching. But I also believe she truly did think Matty was better than everyone thought so I believe some of the songs/lyrics are honest in her thinking that. I just don't know which ones. I alao believe a huge bait and switch is just the referencing drugs as a whole because people would automatically think Matty even though he's been very vocal about being clean and as someone who is a fan of The 1975 - it was very obvious to see the change in Matty - from when he was constantly on drugs to now being clean.

Okay so Fresh out the Slammer & LOML definitely sounds Haylor coded on first listen. LOML *could* be Joe but, it mostly gives Harry vibes.

Unfortunately, Guilty as Sin? and "But Daddy I love Him" do give Maylor vibes unless someone can prove otherwise but, both of them are talking about people talking down on her for the man she's with and how she's tired of hearing it and that he's worth it or how if it "hasn't even happened" how can she be guilty for him.

Who's Afraid of Little Ol Me - maybe Maylor but, I think it's probably just be about that side of the fandom who always has something to say about who she dates or anything she does/doesn't do and judging her/putting her on a pedestal she never asked for.

Adding to this after the Fortnight trailer. I saw some people saying they thought this song was one of the ones about Matty.

It's actually insane to me that Harry was clearly thrown off guard and hurting and his bandmates/best friends said "fuck it" and partied with his ex/her new man instead of comforting him. Lol

On 17 May 2015 one direction, Taylor and Calvin Harris attended the Billboard Music Awards. Harry smiled when he first saw Taylor, who arrived with her squad of friends rather than Calvin. You can see Harry look up and smile and hear the press calling “Taylor” in this interview which harry cuts short so they can talk to Taylor.

Inside she was seated with Calvin and hugged, kissed and was overt when she won throughout the night in the front row. Harry looked incredibly uncomfortable and did not look forward or speak when 1D accepted awards.

Harry left early and returned to LA, the rest of the band was pictured at an after party with Ed, Taylor and Calvin. Austin Swift shared that photo of 1D with Calvin and Taylor, it's wild that Harris Reed liked it, I would love to know the timeline for that!
