Four Suspects Arrested More than Lagos Politician ’s Murder * Nigeria News : 25/01/2018

The operatives of the Inspector Basic of Police Intelligence Response Group (IRT) have arrested the suspected killers murder of one Emmanuel Uba aka Onwa, a rising politician and youth leader in Festac location of Lagos State. Uba was gruesomely killed on July 21, 2017 along 7th Avenue Festac.

A manhunt was launched for his killers following the directives issued by the Acting Commissioner of Police , Edgar Imohinmi.

The suspects were sooner or later arrested and a pistol utilised for the murder recovered. A single of the suspects Fatai Onifade alias Apase, 40, a native of Ilaje Ondo State, who confessed to have organised the assassination because Uba had turn into far more well known than him among the political chieftains and youth leaders in the area.

Yet another suspects, Abidemi Kolawole alias Baido, 42, also an indigene of Ondo State, confessed to be a friend of the Uba and that his part was to lure the deceased to a meeting at 7th Avenue exactly where the two assassins currently waiting on a motorcycle assassinated Uba.

Also, two other suspects, Mufutai Tokosi alias TK, 31, who hails from Lagos Island and Michael Fashola, an indigene of Ibadan, confessed that they are cultists hired by Onifade to kill Uba.

The pistol used in assassinating the victim, it was gathered, was recovered from Onifade.

The death has occurred in London on Friday, October 13, of Emeritus Professor Vincent Olusegun Olunloyo at the age of 74.

He was a Fellow of the Academy of Science, a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering and a member of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM). He was also a Fellow of the Third World Academy of Science (2012).

After a brilliant, all round performance at Igbobi College in Lagos, he attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (1967) and a Doctorate in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (1972) after which he briefly taught at the university.

In his own words, " … the institution gave me a sound education for which I am forever grateful. Furthermore, by appointing me an Assistant Professor of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in 1972, Cornell University pushed me into public limelight as the first black person ever to be appointed into an Ivy League faculty of engineering ". In 1981, he was admitted to membership of the New York Academy of Science.

He joined the engineering faculty of the University of Lagos in 1973 and became an associate professor in 1977. In 1978, he was appointed Professor and Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ilorin and then foundation Dean of its Faculty of Engineering. He returned to the University of Lagos in 1980 and in 1981 became Dean of its Faculty of Engineering. He became an Emeritus Professor at the age of 70.

Prof. Olunloyos’s expertise was sought on many public sector projects both within and outside Nigeria and he was at various times a consultant to UNEP, UNDP and African Development Bank. During the last decade, he has been actively involved in the National Space Programme. He is survived by hisMechanicscsrd World Academy of Science (2012).
