Week #14 - Prague/Austria/Germany/Switzerland 11/19 - 11/26 This weeklong did not start according to plan! The family was planning to fly into Prague on Saturday, however their flight got cancelled because of an fuel leak on the plane. They got postponed and ended up arriving Sunday morning. We were supposed to do a day trip to Cesky Krumlov, but because of the situation we stayed in Prague and I gave them a tour around. From their hotel on the other side of the river, we walked to the Lennon Wall, went to the Prague Castle, and crossed the Charles Bridge. It was very cold, so I took them to our apartments to see. We went to the glass window restaurant right underneath the apartments for dinner and then I took them to our favorite dessert spot to get ice cream cookie sandwiches. They were exhausted from jet lag so we went to sleep early to prepare for our early wake up call. We headed to the train station bright and early and departed for Vienna. We checked in to our apartment/hotel thing and went to a nice spot for lunch. We walked around the city and then took the metro to the Belvedere Palace. We bought tickets and went inside where there was some awesome artwork and outside views of the city. For dinner, we went to a tiny local restaurant that really embraced the Austrian culture. We got traditional dishes of bratwurst, schnitzel, and beer. For dessert, we went to Hotel Sacher and got the famous chocolate cake. The next day we took a day trip to Salzburg. We took a van with four other people and a tour guide and drove through the snowy mountains before heading to the sound of music wedding chapel. Then we drove to the actual town of Salzburg and got a tour of the city even though it was pouring down rain. We had free time and went to a nice lunch in a restaurant that looked like someones house. It was decorated with christmas decorations and we had good Austrian food. We went and got the famous Mozart chocolate balls which were interesting but very tasty. From there we walked to the fort and walked inside this cave looking thing. We didn’t realize there was a fee so a man came chasing after us!! I took my family to the lookout that I had been to on the bike tour previously which had awesome views. The next morning, we took a train to Munich. We walked around the town and then decided to do a hop on hop off bus tour to see it all. For dinner we went to an underground restaurant and got really good food and ice cream. On Friday, we took a day trip to the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. We took a train with a small group and a tour guide and once we got there had some free time for lunch. We then took the hour hike up to the top of the mountain where the castle lies. We had a guided tour inside of the castle which was incredible. They didn’t allow any pictures but we went into only the finished rooms including the kings bedroom, the kitchen, throne room, and stage area. It seemed like something straight out of a movie. The decorations, walls, and flooring were so intricate and colorful. The views of outside were insane of the mountains and town below. We hiked to a bridge that overlooked the castle and was connected by two mountains. It was very rickety and scary and very high off of the ground. I got some of the most unreal photos there. Our ride home was quite eventful. We were supposed to take two trains but there was an accident with one of the trains so we kept getting on and off of trains and no one knew what was going on. Then they said we were going to have to take a bus, but instead we had to take taxis to another train station before we could ever get home. It was just one thing after another! We took a bus the next morning from Munich to Zurich. We checked into a real Marriott hotel which was really nice. The woman at the front desk was so helpful and gave us information of things to do. We walked around the whole town and got swiss chocolate, roclette, and macaroons. From the bridge over the main river, you could see the Swiss Alps. We went to a traditional Swiss restaurant that the lady had recommended where we got this traditional dish. It was some kind of meat and mushrooms in a wine sauce served with hash browns and was so good. From there we went to the pharmacy because my dad was sick and he got some medicine with a helpful lady. We walked to the christmas market which was awesome!! It is supposedly one of the biggest ones in Europe. It was so well decorated and had such good shops and food. We got a few ornaments. Saturday morning, we got up and went on a day tour to the Swiss Alps.
