Big Handsome (aka Geddy Lee) turned two years old this past week! It’s been a great adventure giving this rescue puppy a home and helping him grow up. Being his hooman means having an opportunity everyday to become a better human.
It’s Friday and once again it feels like there’s more work than week. But … I’m grateful for a beautiful place to live, work, and play while I perpetually try to get caught up. 💪😝👍
Started off the evening at the gym, then made a quick stop at Winners to pick up some $12 bike stands. Then, off to the Peace Avenue Bike Club ride. Great to be back in Park Allen (for ice cream) and fun to #rideloaded for a couple hours and for a couple solid climbs!
The smoky haze has (mostly) cleared off and today we get BC weather at Edmonton real estate prices! Happy Tuesday to all the bike riders and coffee drinkers out there.
Friday morning, riding home on the Emily Murphy Access/Connector, and taking a moment for coffee outside before I get down to the steady stream of today’s emails and phone calls. Sitting by the North Saskatchewan River, drinking the last of some nice beans from Monogram in Calgary (℅ District in Edmonton) in a Thom Bargen tumbler that’s been in half a dozen countries around the world. Somehow, a bike ride ties it all together.
July 4, 2023. Revisited the Slocan Valley Rail Trail today. Started off at The Dam Hotel, rode 30 kms to Winlaw, grabbed lunch in town at Mama Sita's, and rode 30 kms back to the trailhead. No bears, but lots of great scenery, including berries, flowers, and a deer.
July 2, 2023. Was GREAT to be back on the Myra Canyon to Penticton stretch of the KVR. It's an 80-km ride that stays +1200 meters above sea level for the first half, winding though Myra Canyon over EIGHTEEN trestle bridges (and through two tunnels), then makes a long, gradual 2.2%-grade descent down to Okanagan Lake (must love gravel roads with washboard, potholes, rocks, and 20 kms of SAND!). I did this ride a few years ago and it was my longest-ever ride at the time. Exhilarating ... and exhausting. This time, it was a fun ride through some of the most beautiful scenery in BC (and some of the most challenging gravel). Kudos to my partner, Corina Dootjes, who rode it all with grit and grace on her 650b Breezer!
June 30, 2023. I said, “I’m going to check out a bit of this trail—I’ll be right back.” She was preoccupied with something else and said, “Uh huh.” I started up the Tramline Trail and realized it would be a great way to get from the village up to Lake Louise. Maybe another time. I turned around … and discovered she had been following me up the trail … not having heard me say I was coming back. 🙂 So, we biked 4.5 kms and 200 meters elevation up to the lake. (Great detours to Moraine Lake and The Continental Divide along the way.)
