My fill for the July bonus prompt of 'Animal Transformations' is inspired by @elenothar's delightful fic Find Your Bearings which is part of their no end to the bears series.

Tiny Bat Shen Wei is here!

For @guardianbingo July bonus prompt of Animal Transformation, I bring you Shen Wei as a bat!

He’s out for nice walk fly through the park, with a book (because he is a professor), a drink (need to stay hydrated out there), and a picture of his Zhao Yunlan (to stare lovingly at)

He’s made of black fleece because he is the Black Cloaked Envoy, and the blue cotton print used in the ears and wings was chosen because it reminded me of Shen Wei’s dark energy.

It took me about a month to finish him, though actual sewing was probably only about 2 weeks. (I was distracted for a couple weeks mid-july.) Most time-consuming part was probably top-stitching the wings, it was so tedious and i had to be careful to keep the lines curving nicely. The surprise difficult part was actually the glasses, it took me about an hour fiddling to figure out that the ears were at different distances from the nose, so the glasses arms had to be adjusted to match.

This story has been languishing as a WIP for months, but today is my birthday so I'm going to celebrate by getting something out of my to-be-finished queue. Happy one-less-WIP day to me!

@iamtheshriekingguineapig complained that there wasn't enough (actual, correctly-tagged) genfic in the Guardian category on AO3, so I'm contributing some. It's still shamelessly self-indulgent and engineered for maximum feelings, though.

I'm thinking I might do a podfic of this later, if there would be any interest in that? I don't normally voice-act my own writing, but the very stilted style I wrote this in is actually pretty similar to my VO narration cadence, so it would probably work. I've never done a podfic, but I've got the studio, I might as well use it for something between jobs, haha...

This was originally just a line drawing, until I remembered that I purchased some new texture brushes a while back and hadn't played with them yet. I... may have gone a little overboard with the texture shading. 😅

Well, I guess I'm not done with the twin angst... 😅 This started out as a little mini sketch in the corner of the page. It was only supposed to be the first of a bunch of rough pose concepts as I brainstormed for my @guardianbingo "redemption" square, but the drawing had other ideas, and pretty soon Ye Zun was crying and Shen Wei was holding him and then I couldn't NOT keep it. Since it wasn't originally intended to be finished, it's a bit rougher than I'd like, but I'm claiming it despite being a very smol scribble (for scale, those lines are 0.1 mm).
