My therapist challenged me to write poetry this winter. I haven't been able to get out much. Today for example is dark gray with rain. So I hope you don't mind if I post a poem. It seems like it’s to someone specific but it isn't. Maybe it's to everybody.
Hey,
If you walk the path with me today
I'll leave the phone in my pocket.
Instead of taking pictures,
When mist rolls across the lake
When deer pause by the wood
When swallows swoop
Or a kingfisher rattles
We could just behold it together
Like the olds
And the ancients.
And, yeah, that's what I want to propose:
Maybe you could be my companion,
You know,
On Behold Walks together?
I know a place for migrating birds in spring,
Flowers and hummingbirds in summer,
For mushrooms in autumn,
And intricate ice in the winter,
Ponds for wood ducks and herons,
Long trails through woods and ferns.
Great places! I think you'd like them.
Usually I go there with my camera
And my phone.
But I think I might like it more, you know,
Like,
With you?
