        it’s  the  barest  ghost  of  a  touch  ,  a  gentle  whisper  of  fingertips  brushing  along  her  scarred  shoulder  in  a  careful  caress ,  tentative  and  inquisitive  in  it’s  nature .  doe  eyes  are  soft  yet  still  guarded  as  she  looks  over  him  in  silence ,  absorbing  the  warm  amber  of  his  irises  as  she  attempted  to  discern  what  thoughts  were  tumbling  around  his  skull .   a  part  of  her  wants  to  retreat  back  behind  the  security  of  her  walls ,  to  tug  her  jacket  on  to  conceal  the  traumas  that  had  riddled  her  body  with  permanent  reminders  of  all  she  had  endured  and  put  as  much  distance  between  her  and  this  moment  of  raw  vulnerability  as  possible .  

      the  other  part  of  her ,  the  quiet  part  of  her  soul  that  was  more  starved  for  gentle  touches  such  as  these  than  she  cared  to  admit , wanted  to  embrace  it .  to  absorb  the  warmth  of  his  fingertips  bleeding  through  her  skin  and  soaking  deep  into  the  marrow  of  her  bones ,  to  allow  it  to  anchor  her  and  assure  her  that  she  wasn’t  a  ghost .  that  she  wasn’t  too  far  gone . 

          breath  spills  from  her  lips  in  a  shaky  exhale ,  eyes  glossy  with  the  unshed  tears  she  wouldn’t  allow  to  fall  free ,  the  swell  of  her  bottom  lip�� tugged  between  her  teeth  to  gnaw  on  gently .   ❛     the  vampire  that  killed  my  parents  gave  me  that .     ❜     confession  manifests  in  a  soft  murmur ,  so  quiet  it  would  have  been  impossible  to  hear ,  were  it  not  for  the  close  proximity  between  them .  gaze  flickers  down  to  the  teeth  -  like  scar  embedded  into  olive  flesh ,  angry  and  puckered  but  nowhere  near  as  bad  as  it  had  looked  initially .  wry  chuckle  bubbles  on  her  lips ,  dry  and  hollow ,  gaze  flickering  back  up  to  meet  his .  ❛     i  kept  it  covered  for  a  long  time .  i  was  ashamed  of  it ,  and  what  it  represented .  how  my  parents  were  dead  while  i  was  still  alive ,  how  helpless  i  had  been  when  i  watched  them  die ,  too  weak  and  scared  to  do  anything  to  try  and  save  them .  but  after  a  while . . .     ❜     words  trail  off ,  gaze  softening  as  the  smile  that  touched  her  lips  shifted  to  something  a  little  more  genuine . ❛     i  realized  there  was  no   point  in  hiding  it .  that  rather  than  let  it  make  me  guilty ,  i  let  it  start  fueling  me  instead .  motivating  me  to  be  harder  and  stronger ,  resilient  like  they  always  believed  i  was . it  gave  me  the  strength  i  needed  to  avenge  them .  and  in  a  way ,  avenge  me  too .     ❜
