How are you taking advantage of this gift of time? Are you learning something new as you stay at home? I’ve dived deep into the world of Tambour embroidery and have been sharing my journey on my stories. This type of embroidery is a mix between crochet and beading on fabric. I’m obsessed! I’m still practicing and have a lot to learn before I’m ready to teach it, but there is so much you can do with this craft, and I’m eager to show you! I almost forgot to share my latest feature in @molliemakes - it’s a punch needle piece on a background you weave yourself! No ugly monks cloth. By weaving your own background, you can add fringe, color, design, and let the cloth shine between your pinched pattern! I think the next couple of months are going to be a bit of a roller coaster for all of us. We’ve got a big focus happening right now for our physical well being and working together to help slow the spread of the Coronavirus. I wanted to spend a minute to remind us all the importance of keeping our mind healthy during this time as well. During these crazy times, I want to encourage you to craft, not worry! Over the last few years here at Hello Hydrangea, I’ve tried to focus on 2 main goals. The first is to help everyone make the most of our limited crafting time by providing high quality classes for fiber arts. The second is to help everyone experience the joys and therapeutic benefits of having a creative outlet. Introducing March’s weaving project! This month (my birthday month 😉) we will be turning any full-size regular loom into a beading loom to create a large-scale bead weaving project! The class includes a full video with instructions, plus 3 patterns to choose from and links to learn how to dye your own wooden beads to get the colors you want 👌🏼 The best part about this technique, is that you can slip it into any weaving project! The busy month of March has officially began! This weekend I am heading to Vegas’s @queenbeemarket to teach these three different fiber crafts in 3 hours to 50 workshop students 😍 It’s going to be a night of straight up fun! Next weekend my husband, brother, sister-in-law and I are headed to California to live a weekend at Pinner’s conference (@esme_design will be helping out with my booth and classes as well, so if you’re in the area, definitely stop by!) I’ll also be on KTLA’s morning show on Thursday morning, along with a few other Pinners teachers - wish me luck for my first tv debut 😅 I can hardly wait for the next two weeks and will share lots of behind-the-scene action! Has February gone by fast or slow for you? I want to take a moment and say THANK YOU for being a part of this amazing weaving community! Moving to Arizona has been good for my little family, especially my son. We are still searching for a home for ourselves and are staying with my wonderful inlaws. This means that Clayton is constantly surrounded by a lot more people that love him and want to spend time with him. Its amazing to see his growth in just the past couple of weeks as he has been surrounded by these people. I've seen the same thing happen to so many of you as you've joined the weaving community! There is something inspiring about watching the sunset. My husband has taught me to appreciate this more and more over the years. He's a deep thinker and loves to reflect over how various events turned out. For him, I think the sunset has always reminded him to take time to reflect, give thanks, and figure out ways to continue improving a little each day. I think he also likes it because it signals the end of the day and an opportunity to rest :) He's been asking me for a few YEARS now to weave a sunset, and I've been feeling guilty that his only woven-request hasn't been fulfilled yet.
