"I can't be autistic. I handle school just fine. If I was autistic, I wouldn't be able to handle all that noise and stuff."
Yeah... But how are you AFTER school?
Do you shutdown? Struggle to do homework because your brain can't handle any more input? Are you extra sensitive to smells, noise etc, so that even dinner cooking can smell overwhelming? Do you sleep in on the weekends and want to do nothing whilst your friends are going out and having parties but you can't even shower?
This is called masking. You are surviving school, but nothing more.
*Note: not all autistics can mask. Not all autistics go to standard school. This is just from my POV.

Every time I see the full moon, it always reminds me of the beautiful hadith where the Rasulullaah ﷺ came out on a full moon night. Jabir رضي الله عنه glanced at him (ﷺ), then at the moon, then at him (ﷺ), then the moon and he came to the conclusion that the Rasulullaah ﷺ was more beautiful than the moon.

while it’s technically true, statements along the lines of “nobody is truly independent” are not always helpful when it comes to talking about disability.
it can feel a lot like when someone says “we all get sad sometimes” when you’re talking about l depression, or “we all get nervous” when you’re talking about anxiety.
some of us truly cannot live without the one-on-one support from others. some of us are truly reliant on help on a daily basis in order to function.
it is not the same as an abled person’s reliance on a farmer for food. it is not the same as an abled person’s dependence on their partner for emotional needs.
I know many of you are well-meaning, but these kinds of statements truly downplay and sanitise the experiences of the disabled, and it quite simply is not helpful.

The same God that does not answer your prayers immediately is the same God Who doesn't punish you for your sins immediately. Both are acts of His Mercy.
