How to clean your HomeAid garbage disposal?
Please clean your HomeAid food waste disposer regularly.
1. With the disposal off, clean the inner side of the rubber in the center of the sink leading to the disposal. It gets very dirty, and gives off an odor when not cleaned. Just wipe it with a paper towel.
2. Throw some ice down once in a while. While ice will not sharpen the shredders (as is commonly believed) it does knock off any debris buildup on the sharp edges that keeps them from grinding food properly.
For better results, make special ice cubes from pure lemon juice or vinegar, or alternate with biodegradable cleanser (label them in your freezer!) Cover and seal ice trays used in your freezer for cleanser, and do not reuse trays for food or drink after having been used for cleanser. While using the disposal, be sure to run cold water at the same time.
3. Dispose orange peels, or any citrus rinds, to freshen the disposal and keep it smelling clean, but cut them into slices first as large pieces of citrus peel, e.g. half a lime, can jam a disposal. You can also use pieces of citrus fruit that may be too old to consume, as long as they're not too spoiled to smell nice. You can freeze these pieces first, if you wish.

1. The Disposal Clogs
When a disposal clogs and water backs up into the sink, the cause is usually a clogged drain line. It is important that you clean this clog manually and not use a commercially available clog remover (Drano, Liquid Plumber, etc.) because the caustic chemicals can damage the unit.
Identify the drain line, place an empty bucket beneath it, and detach it from the main disposal unit. This could require a wrench (if your line is attached with dual bolts) or the release of a pressure joint (simply unscrew it). Use your finger to clear out the drain line opening in the disposal, then clear the drain line of any blockage there as well.
If the clog is further down the line, you’ll need to clear it with a drain snake or call a professional plumber to handle the situation.
2. Water Leaks Under the Sink
There are three places that a garbage disposal is likely to leak. The first place to check is the garbage disposal drain line. Tighten the drain line bolts or the pressure seal to stop a leak here. If the pressure seal is broken, you’ll need to purchase new o-ring (available at all major grocery stores, home-improvement stores, etc.)
Another possible leak location is at the dishwasher connection. The same type of connection that is seen in the drain line will be used here. Either tighten the bolts or replace the gasket.
The worst place to find a leak is in the sink flange. Most of the leaks in this area ore due to failed upper gaskets. These cannot be replaced by the DIYer, and are expensive for plumbers to fix. Unless you have a top of the line commercial disposal, purchasing a new one will often cost the same amount as repair the old.

What To Do When Your Homeaid Garbage Disposal Was Jammed By Cherry Pits?
HomeAid Disposals can grind up almost any food, but sometimes they meet their match in small, hard objects like cherry pits, nut shells and gravel. Usually, something gets stuck in the small gap between the impeller plate and the grinding ring. When a disposal jams, the impeller plate locks up and the motor hums or it shuts itself off. If you hear it humming, turn off the disposal's switch right away to prevent undo damage to the motor. If there is no humming, chances are the motor's overload breaker has tripped to prevent motor damage.
To fix a jammed disposal, turn off the switch so there's no power going to the disposal. As an added precaution, you can also shut off the breaker to the disposal's circuit in your home's breaker box, if desired. Alternatively, you can shine a flashlight into the disposal and fish out the obstruction with needlenose pliers (you'll have to grab blindly with the pliers because your hand will block your view).
If you can't find an obstruction, try to move the impeller plate manually: Locate the funny little wrench (sometimes called a wrenchette) that comes with most disposals and should be in a plastic sleeve under the sink or stuck to the side of the disposal. Stick the end of the wrench into the recessed nut in the bottom center of the disposal, then crank it back and forth to free the impeller. If you don't have a wrenchette, find an Allen wrench that fits the nut; 1/4-inch is typical.

A jammed disposal can often be freed by using a wrenchette or Allen wrench in the bottom fitting.
Locate the small motor reset button, usually on the bottom of the disposal unit, and press it in. Run the water, then turn on the disposal at the switch. Repeat the same process, as needed, until the disposal works again. If the disposal is still dead (no humming), try the reset button again. Also, check the circuit breaker and reset it if it has tripped. If that doesn't work, the motor may have burned out, which means it's time to replace the disposal.

If you overworked the HomeAid garbage disposal, it will overheat and humming.
In most cases, the disposal will be humming because it is clogged or jammed. But not always. Here are a few other scenarios.
1. It’s Overheated
If you thought cleaning out the refrigerator and putting everything down the disposal that’s been in the fridge more than six months was a good idea, well, think again. You may have overworked it and caused it to overheat.
The solution is to give it a rest and try again in a few minutes. In the meantime, start dumping the rest of the old food in the trash, not down the disposal. It wasn’t really intended to be used this way.
If a few minutes rest doesn’t work, try pressing the red reset button on the unit beneath the sink. See if that does the trick.
2. The Breaker Tripped
Especially if you live in an older home, the disposal may have tripped the breaker. This usually happens if you are also running other appliances at the same time. Sometimes, it overloads the electrical system.
You need to find your circuit breaker panel. It is probably in a hallway, closet or the garage. Occasionally, it will be in the pantry or inside a cabinet somewhere.
Find the correct breaker. Hopefully, all the breakers are labeled. You are looking for the “Kitchen” breaker.
It should have three settings: on, off and neutral. It is probably currently in neutral.
You want to turn it to the “off” position first to reset it. Then you want to turn it to the “on” position.
3. It’s Time for A New One
This is the worst-case scenario and it’s uncommon. But sometimes it has died, whether due to age or hard use.
So, if all else fails, you may want to call a plumber and get their professional opinion. It may be time to shop for a new one.

YES. You must run a good flow of water until the grinding has stopped.
The best way to avoid problems with your garbage disposal in the first place is to make sure that the food particles you put down it are small and that you run plenty of cold water down the drain before and after you use it.
In fact, it is a good idea to run cold water down the disposal before grinding food particles and then also after the grinding has stopped as well. This will ensure that the food particles from your dishes are on their way to sewage plant and not clogging your pipes or backing up your dishwasher.

What to do when Disposal Is Leaking? HomeAid HA500 NOT Leak!
Garbage disposal leaks can occur from a number of places on a garbage disposer. Common areas include the sink flange where the disposal connects to the bottom of the sink, the hose that leads from the dishwasher to the disposal, and hose that discharges waste from the disposal to the drain system.
Leak at the Sink Flange
The constant vibration of a garbage disposal, over time, can loosen the mounting apparatus that holds the appliance to the sink drain opening. This sink mounting flange is a likely place for leaking.
Turn off power to the disposal at the electrical service panel by shutting off the circuit breaker that controls it.
At the disposer mounting ring under the sink, turn the disposal to the left (counter-clockwise from bottom) to loosen and remove the unit from its mounting flange.
Tighten down the three mounting bolts holding the flange to the sink.
If the bolts are tight, the leak may be caused by failed plumber's putty. Loosen the bolts and push the sink flange slightly above the surface of the sink.
Force a bead of new plumbers putty between the sink flange and the sink, going completely around the flange.
Re-tighten the mounting bolts from below, drawing the sink flange tight to the sink surface. When excess putty oozes out, wipe away the excess.
Reinstall the disposal and turn the power back on at the service panel.
Check for leaks as you run the water in the sink.
Leak at the Dishwasher Connection
The rubber hose that funnels waste water from the dishwasher to the garbage disposal is also a place where leads frequently occur.
Tighten the hose clamp on the dishwasher hose connected to the dishwasher inlet on the disposer.
Replace the hose if the hose continues to leak.
Leak at the Discharge Drainpipe
Another plastic pipe carries directs waste water from the disposal to the sink drain trap, and this fitting can leak when the gasket get old.
Check the bolts holding the discharge pipe to the disposal, making sure they are tight.
If this does not work, remove the bolts and the pipe and replace the gasket seal between the pipe and the disposal.
Reinstall the bolts and tighten them down.

Truth be told, sure it can grind them all up, but I would not go as far as ruling out all possibility of jamming caused by the same garbage that the machine is supposed to manage effortlessly.
The ½ HP AC motor offers an effective amount of power to deal with almost all types of food waste. Follow the suggested operating instructions and no major problem should present itself during the machine’s lifetime.

Garbage disposals have two types of mounts: 3-bolt mount and EZ mount. If you have an existing model, the odds are nearly 100% that it is equipped with a 3-bolt mount.
So what’s the main difference between 3-bolt mount and EZ mount? There are two main differences. The daily amount of household kitchen garbage in July stood at 1,764 tonnes, 470 percent higher than the daily average in late April in the city, said Zhang Yan, deputy director of the city's commission of urban management.
Meanwhile, the daily amount of other waste -- the trash besides the categories of kitchen, recyclable and hazardous -- dropped 26 percent year on year to 19,960 tonnes in July, Zhang said at a press conference.
According to Zhang, Beijing has 44 household waste treatment facilities, with a total designed treatment capacity of 32,711 tonnes per day.
Starting May 1, Beijing joined a club of Chinese cities to carry out mandatory garbage sorting in fresh efforts to protect the environment.
With the city's newly-revised household waste regulation taking effect, Beijing requires people to classify household waste into four categories: kitchen, recyclable, hazardous and other waste.

Read This Before You Buy A New Garbage Disposal
When the time comes to replace an old garbage disposal there are a number of things to consider. To get the best use of this kitchen appliance, it is important to buy the right one for your kitchen. Not all garbage disposals work the same, so it is a good idea to consider all the options.
Currently, the most popular and best-selling AC-motor garbage disposal brand is HomeAid garbage disposal. They seem to be the most competitive with regards to quality, price, and durability. While there are other great brands available, HomeAid is quite prevalent at most home improvement stores. Often they may be the best choice available.
Aside from brand, there are several important elements to consider when buying a garbage disposal. The price is usually dictated by the unit’s horsepower and size. Other things to consider are the noise level, components, and special concerns like a septic tank.
This guide is organized by horsepower, so it can apply to any brand of garbage disposals.
1/3 Horsepower
The lowest horsepower garbage disposals available are 1/3 horse. Although they may seem like a great economical option, their utility level is quite limited. They get easily jammed and usually have the cheapest internal components, which will rust out in the shortest amount of time. This option should only be considered for very limited or temporary use.
1/2 Horsepower
This is usually the minimum horsepower recommended for typical home use. These can usually be purchased for less than $125, so they are still an affordable option. They are smaller and can usually easily fit into tighter spaces. This unit size is a great option for those who do not use their disposals all of the time and do not overfeed the garbage disposal.
The noise level tends to be quite high for these disposals. Please select HomeAid garbage which applied AC-motor and worked very quietly. Also, it is important to run a lot of water with these units to help all of the food go down. Whenever possible opt for a 1/2 horsepower garbage disposer with Stainless Steel Grind components, which will make it last much longer.
3/4 Horsepower
This is a great size for a garbage disposal, which can serve most kitchens quite well. At this size, they will have plenty of power for all those leftovers and more. Most, like the HomeAid (our favorite), can grind things like potato peels, celery, and much more with no problem.
With this much horsepower, disposals will not get jammed so easily, and many more features are available. Stainless steel grind components, for instance, offer a much longer life, so look for that whenever possible. Also, most disposals at this size will have more sound protection, so they can run even quieter than the 1/2 horsepower units. One thing to keep in mind though, these tend to be a bit bigger than the 1/2 horsepower disposals, so make sure you have the room to install one under your kitchen sink.
1 Horsepower
Do you feel like grinding chicken bones, fruit rinds, coffee grounds, and much more? Well, disposals of 1 horsepower will do the trick. Most of the 1 horsepower models are the top of the line, like the HomeAid. They can end up being quieter than even the 3/4 horsepower models. All at this level should be fully stainless steel in the grinding chamber, have more room for more food at a time, and be virtually impossible to jam.
Note that these will tend to be quite large, and you will need quite a bit of space under the sink. Units of this size with reverse osmosis systems can end up taking up the majority of the room under the sink. These are great units. If you have the room and the money, a 1 horsepower garbage disposal can be well worth it.
Homes With Septic Tanks
Septic tanks require additional consideration, but a garbage disposal is not out of the question. There are some garbage disposals that have a special cartridge on the side of the unit that injects the food waste with natural microorganisms to help with the breakdown of the food. These cartridges can be less than $15 dollars and last up to 6 months. On top of helping the septic tank, they also have a citrus scent that helps with controlling the odor from the sink and drain.
