The way to actually stop feeling the negative emotions we’re feeling is by accepting that it is okay that we are feeling them. We need f remind ourselves that feeling negative emotions is a normal part of the human experience and we need to truly allow ourselves to sit with them and feel them until they leave our body. It is our resistance to the negative emotion that causes us pain, not the negative emotion itself.

I often get stuck in a mindset that all the terrible news– all the callousness, misinformation, and pain drowns out everything good in the world. And I know I’m not the only one who catastrophizes in this way.
I’ve found the most effective way to deal with my overwhelming negativity and fear is to actively do something nice for someone else. I try to listen and show compassion towards someone who is struggling, make a gift for a friend, or write a note of appreciation to someone who has helped me.
