What fate? To marry the Daughter of the Nine Moons! To die and live again, and live once more a part of what was! To give up half the light of the world to save the world! Go to Rhuidean, son of battles! Go to Rhuidean, trickster! Go, gambler! Go!

mat cauthon - robert jordan’s ‘the wheel of time’ series
“He was charming at times, even witty and amusing, but often a buffoon and always a rapscallion. He had seemed very much in his element as Tylin’s pet. Yet he had seemed in his element among the show’s performers, too, and with the marath’damane and the two escaped damane, and in the hell…A formidable man though with a peculiar weakness”

Got a hot take for you: Elves are preps, Dwarves are nerds, Men are jocks, and Hobbits are homeschooled kids.

On Sunday, November 12, 1975, Reverend Richard Ingalls of Detroit’s Mariners’ Church tolled the church’s bell 29 times, in honor of each sailor lost in the sinking of the freighter EDMUND FITZGERALD two days earlier on Lake Superior.  This memorial continues as an annual tradition.
Ingalls’ original gesture inspired a verse of the ballad, “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by folk singer Gordon Lightfoot.  In his original lyrics, Lightfoot characterizes the church as a “musty old hall,” although he later changed the line to the much more fitting “rustic old hall.”  Likewise he has also updated other lyrics from the song to reflect modern understandings of the sequence of events which led to that tragic accident.
Mariners’ Church appears here on a c. 1970 postcard from our collection.
