Because not only is it tragic, but it's Henry letting Alex know that for as long as they have before they're pulled apart again, Henry is HIS.

It's such a book Henry moment like you don't understand. It fits so well with the moment in the book when Henry says,

“When have I EVER, since the first instant i TOUCHED YOU, pretened to be anything less than in love with you?”

And it's so tragic and so beautiful because he doesn't think that Alex will ever love him back but knows that he has been Alex's since the very first moment they met in 2016 but is so sure that it'll always be unrequited. Meanwhile, Alex is falling so far in love with henry that it scares him. AND I'M GONNA CRY.
