Have you ever seen the festivals of Día de los Muertos? As we prepare to attend "Ofrenda dia de los Muertos". In 2008, the tradition was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Q. But what is Dia de los Muertos? A. Modern day, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) combines the ancient Aztec custom of celebrating ancestors with All Souls' Day, a holiday that Spanish invaders brought to Mexico starting in the early 1500s. Assured that the dead would be insulted by mourning or sadness, Dia de los Muertos celebrates the lives of the deceased with food, drink, parties, and activities the dead enjoyed in life. Dia de los Muertos recognizes death as a natural part of the human experience, a continuum with birth, childhood, and growing up to become a contributing member of the community. On Dia de los Muertos, the dead are also a part of the community, where tails speak of.... the happy spirits of dearly departed loved ones being allowed to come back and visit us once each year, awakened from their eternal sleep to share celebrations with their loved ones. Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento is honored to invite you to “Ofrenda dia de los Muertos” Friday October 27, 2017, 8:00 pm at Crest Theater Sacramento.
