#LokSabhaElections2024 : Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP) Releases Manifesto Titled “Shapatnama” ; Bats For Caste Census, Full Statehood For J&K ; Rejects One Nation One Election
The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) has unveiled its manifesto, favouring caste census and promising a separate commission for farmers’ welfare, right to apprenticeship, 50 per cent reservation for women in jobs.
The Sharad Pawar-led party said it supports full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and rejects the idea of ‘one nation, one election’.
As per the manifesto, titled “Shapatnama”, the NCP (SP) will review and propose changes to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register for Citizens (NRC), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other laws “conflicting” with the constitutional principles.

Taking cognisance for the first time of a model code violation allegation against a prime minister, the Election Commission has asked the Bharatiya Janata Party to respond to complaints filed by opposition parties wherein they have accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of delivering a divisive and defamatory speech in Rajasthan’s Banswara.
According to PTI, In its letter addressed to BJP President J P Nadda, the Election Commission asked him to respond by Monday to complaints filed by the Congress, the Communist Party of India and Party of India Marxist–Leninist Liberation regarding the remarks made by Modi on April 21 in Banswara.
It also asked Nadda to bring to the notice of all star campaigners of the party to “set high standards of political discourse and observe provisions of model code of conduct in letter and spirit”.
Officials said it is the first time that the panel has taken cognisance of a complaint against any prime minister. The Election Commission has invoked provisions of the Representation of the People Act to hold party presidents as the first step to rein in star campaigners.

Senior Congress leader and General Secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to give a communal angle to the Congress manifesto. The Congress leader also accused PM Modi of raising some issues that are not in the manifesto.
“BJP is in trouble. The PM is baffled. Since April 19, he has been trying to take the whole agenda in a different direction. He tried to give a communal angle to our manifesto, after which, he raised some issues which are not there in our manifesto… He is publicising our manifesto during his election rallies. Even though this publicity is wrong, it is based on lies, still, this is the first time that the PM is publicising the opposition’s manifesto,” he said.
Jairam Ramesh challenged the PM’s claim that their manifesto talks about wealth redistribution, stating that there is not one word in their 50-page manifesto that hints at wealth redistribution.
“The PM says that our manifesto talks about wealth redistribution. I challenge him that in our 50-page manifesto, there is not one word that hints at wealth redistribution,” he said.
He mentioned that the Congress manifesto does not include any mention of inheritance tax, hence, it is not part of their agenda.
“I want to clarify one thing. There is no mention of inheritance tax in our manifesto, it is not our agenda. The truth is, that in 1985, PM Rajiv Gandhi abolished the inheritance tax.. We never mentioned anything about inheritance tax, and it is not a part of our agenda,” he said.

#LokSabhaElections2024 : Second Phase – 89 Seats ; All 20 In Kerala , 14 In Karnataka , 13 In Rajasthan
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor, and actor-turned-politician Arun Govil are among the key candidates in the fray for the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls with Bharatiya Janata Party’s Hema Malini, Om Birla and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat seeking a hat-trick of wins from their respective constituencies.
Staggered over seven stages, the first phase of the elections held last Friday for 102 seats across 21 states and Union territories saw a voter turnout of around 65.5 per cent.
In the second phase of Lok Sabha polls on Friday, polling is scheduled in all 20 seats of Kerala, 14 of the 28 seats in Karnataka, 13 seats in Rajasthan, eight seats each in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, seven in Madhya Pradesh, five each in Assam and Bihar, three seats each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and one seat each in Manipur, Tripura and Jammu and Kashmir.
Gandhi is the sitting MP from Wayanad in Kerala and is seeking re-election. He is pitted against CPI’s Annie Raja and BJP’s K Surendran.
In the 2019 election, Gandhi secured victory by a substantial margin of more than 7 lakh votes against his closest rival, Communist Party of India’s P P Suneer.
Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor is hoping to retain the Thiruvananthapuram seat for the fourth time. He is pitted against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar from the BJP and CPI’s Pannyan Raveendran.
Malini, who has represented the Mathura constituency since 2014, is contesting against Congress’ Mukesh Dhangar while Om Birla, a two-time MP from Kota, is facing Prahlad Gunjal from the Congress party.
Union minister Shekhawat is eyeing a third win from the Jodhpur seat while Congress candidate Karan Singh Uchiyarda would look to put a spanner in the works of the BJP candidate.
Tejasvi Surya, the sitting MP for Bangalore South and the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), will face Congress’ Sowmya Reddy.

#LokSabhaElections2024 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi Uses Sam Pitroda’s Inheritance Tax Comments To Attack Congress
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has attacked the Congress over its leader Sam Pitroda’s “inheritance tax” remark, saying that the grand old party’s “dangerous intentions” of snatching the assets and rights of people have come to the fore.
The Congress will loot and equally distribute people’s earnings and properties, he claimed while addressing an election rally in Ambikapur, the headquarter of Surguja district, in Chhattisgarh.
“The dangerous intentions of Congress are coming to forth one by one and now it says it will impose inheritance tax. The advisor of ‘shehzada’ of the ‘shahi parivar’, who was also the advisor to the shehzada’s father, said that more tax should be imposed on the middle class and those who earn by toiling hard,” Modi said, apparently referring to Rahul Gandhi and Pitroda.
“He (the advisor) said this publicly. Now they (Congress) have gone a step further and Congress is saying it will impose inheritance tax. It will impose tax on the assets inherited by people from their parents. Now, the ‘panja’ (Congress poll symbol) will snatch the assets from your children,” he said without taking any name.
Modi was apparently referring to a statement made by Indian Overseas Congress chairperson Sam Pitroda at Chicago in America over the inheritance tax law.
The PM said the Congress’ mantra is “loot of Congress zindagi ke sath bhi, zindagi ke baad bhi”.
“Till you are alive, Congress will impose more tax and after your life ends, it will impose the burden of inheritance tax on you. They (Congress) want to snatch your assets and rights of your children,” the PM added.
Congress does not want that common Indians give their property to their children. From values to culture, our country is not a consumerist country. We believe in accumulation, enrichment and preservation, he said.
“Today, our nature and environment is protected because of these values. Our old parents, grandparents keep their small ornaments safe thinking that it will be worn by their grandchildren during their wedding. The people of my country are fond of living life by taking loans. People are hard-working and spend as per their needs and have a tendency to accumulate,” he said.

#LokSabhaElections2024 : Congress Hits Back At BJP Over Inheritance Tax Furore ; Party Releases Jayant Sinha’s Speech, Cites Arun Jaitley’s Firm Backing On The Issue
Amid the row over Congress leader Sam Pitroda’s remarks, the party has in sharp rebuttal asserted that it has no plans whatsoever to introduce an inheritance tax and cited former Union minister Jayant Sinha’s remarks to allege that it is the Modi government that wanted to do so.
Pitroda, the president of the Indian Overseas Congress, has talked about the inheritance tax law in the United States while answering a query on the “redistribution of wealth” issue.
In a post on X, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said the Congress has no plan whatsoever to introduce an inheritance tax. “In fact, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had abolished Estate Duty in 1985, he said, adding that it is the Modi government that has wanted to do so.”
He said, “Fact One: Jayant Sinha, then Minister of State for Finance, publicly stated that he wanted to introduce Inheritance Tax in 2014.
Fact Two: In 2017, reports emerged that the Modi Sarkar was going to re-introduce inheritance tax.
Fact Three: In 2018, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley praised Inheritance Taxes for spurring large endowments to hospitals, universities in the West. Fact Four: News reports emerged that Modi Sarkar would introduce an Inheritance Tax in Union Budget 2019,” Ramesh said in the post.
“Over to you Prime Minister Modi – what is your party’s stance on this issue?” he said and shared media reports on former minister of state for finance Jayant Sinha and former finance minister Arun Jaitley’s remarks “in favour” of an inheritance tax.
Ramesh also shared a 15-minute speech by Sinha at the Forbes India Philanthropy Awards 2013 to claim that he was in favour of an inheritance tax.
“The Congress has no plan whatsoever to introduce an inheritance tax. In fact, Rajiv Gandhi abolished Estate Duty in 1985. Please listen to BJP MP Jayant Sinha, once MoS Finance in the Modi Sarkar, and later Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance. “He has spent 15 long minutes vehemently arguing in favour of an Inheritance Tax of 55%, like in the US,” Ramesh said. The Congress distanced itself from Pitroda’s “inheritance tax” remarks, saying sensationalising them are attempts at diverting attention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “malicious” poll campaign.
Ramesh said Pitroda has been a mentor, friend, philosopher and guide to many across the world, and has made numerous and enduring contributions to India’s developments. “Mr Pitroda expresses his opinions freely on issues he feels strongly about. Surely, in a democracy an individual is at liberty to discuss, express, and debate his personal views. This does not mean that Mr Pitroda’s views always reflect the position of the Indian National Congress. Many times they do not.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari fainted while speaking at an election rally in eastern Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district. The BJP leader was campaigning at Pusad which comes under the Yavatmal-Washim Lok Sabha constituency.
According to PTI, As he suffered a fainting fit, the security personnel accompanying him carried him off-stage. The minister, however, recovered after a few minutes and completed his speech.
“Felt uneasy due to heat at a rally at Pusad, Maharashtra. But now I am completely alright and on my way to Warud to take part in the next rally,” the 66-year-old leader said in a post on X.

#LokSabhaElections2024 : Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge Slams Prime Minister Narendra Modi ; Says Corrupt People Join BJP And Become Clean
Hitting back hard at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his constant criticism of the Congress , party chief Mallikarjun Kharge said that as the first round of voting for the Lok Sabha polls was over, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was afraid of invisible voters.
If the Congress is nothing, why is the Prime Minister bothered about the grand old party, Kharge asked at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram as reported by PTI .
He said he had travelled to nearly 10-12 states and added the party was getting a very good response from voters there.
“I hope the undercurrent, that I can say, is not visible, but Modiji is afraid of these invisible voters who will come out in the election, and that’s why he is always criticising the Congress,” Kharge told reporters.
If the BJP will get 400 seats this time and they have such great confidence, then why is the saffron party welcoming corrupt people to their fold, the veteran leader asked.
“You (the BJP) say on one side that Modi never tolerates corruption. Then you purchase…instead of purchase, I will say you lured nearly 444 MLAs, irrespective of the parties to which they belong,” he further said.
He charged that the BJP also welcomed 23 big people, including chief ministers, contractors, and others, in the past, and as soon as they joined the saffron party, “they became clean.”
Taking a dig at the BJP, he further said as long as they were with the Congress or other opposition parties, those leaders were very corrupt.
“I am not able to understand that a man who ruled this country for nearly 10 years as a PM and for nearly 13 and a half years as a chief minister is not able to distinguish who is corrupt…who is good…and who is bad,” he said.
It is unfortunate for the country that such a man is ruling, he said, adding that Modi and Amit Shah have very big “washing machines” to clean up corrupt people.
Accusing the Prime Minister of acting like a “petty politician,” the AICC president said he had forgotten everything he had said earlier and during the 2019 elections.
Saying that Modi had promised two crore jobs to youngsters, he asked where those two crore jobs were.
Kharge recalled how Modi had promised to give Rs 15 lakh to every family and double the income of farmers. The PM also announced that he would bring back the black money kept outside by the Congress, he said.
Kharge asked the people to judge whether the PM or the Congress is lying.
“When I say Modiji you are a liar, then people ask why Khargeji is calling a Prime Minister a liar like this. Because these are facts…you cannot hide,” he said.
The AICC chief also criticised Modi’s guarantee slogan being used by the PM and the BJP during the campaigning for the polls this time.
“What is Modi’s guarantee? Something not to implement whatever promises he gives. That is the guarantee,” he alleged.

Former Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa said he is not scared of expulsion from the BJP as he reiterated his resolve to contest the Lok Sabha elections as an independent with full vigour. He said his expulsion was on the expected lines.c
As per PTI report , BJP expelled Eshwarappa for six years for violating party discipline, and contesting Lok Sabha polls as an independent candidate.
“Ignoring the party’s directions, you are contesting as a rebel candidate from Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency, causing embarrassment to the party. This is violation of party discipline,” state disciplinary committee president Lingaraj Patil said in the expulsion order.
It said, “so, you have been relieved from all the responsibilities and have been expelled from the party for six years, with immediate effect.”
Eshwarappa has remained steadfast on his decision to contest, spurning efforts by party leaders to pacify him.
The paty’s decision to expel the former Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, came on the last day for withdrawal of candidature for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka on May seven.
Eshwarappa along with Yediyurappa and late H N Ananth Kumar is widely credited with building the BJP from the grassroots in Karnataka.

Earlier, Sachin Pilot held a roadshow in the Palakkad district of Kerala on Monday.
Sachin Pilot criticized the BJP’s governance over the past decade, pointing out the party’s failure to deliver on key promises.
“Ten years of BJP rule we have seen this country, none of the promises are being fulfilled, farmers, middle classes, young people and women all feel cheated. The promises of doubling the farmers’ income, and giving 2 crore jobs every year have not been fulfilled,” Pilot said.
He also highlighted the BJP’s tendency to focus on divisive issues, accusing the party of distracting from more pressing concerns.
“They (BJP) are talking about 2047, Hindu-Muslim, Masjid-Mandir. People want development, people want peace and harmony, and the gap between the rich and poor to go away. For us inflation and price rise issues are important. Our focus is on real issues, people’s issues. The BJP is trying to divert the issues to emotional matters. The people are very smart,” Pilot said.
Pilot’s remarks came after Prime Minister Modi said that the Congress’s manifesto talks about taking “the gold of mothers and sisters” and distributing that wealth.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd managing director Balkrishna have told the Supreme Court that they have issued an unqualified apology in newspapers for the lapses on their part in the misleading advertisements case.
While hearing the case SC according to PTI reports asked if the size of an apology it put out in newspapers today was similar to its full-page advertisements of its products.
A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah asked their counsel to place the apology published in newspapers on record within two days.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Patanjali founders Ramdev and Balkrishna, said the apology was published in 67 newspapers at a cost of ₹ 10 lakh. “Has the apology been published prominently? Same font and size as your earlier advertisements?” Justice Hima Kohli asked. When Mr Rohatgi said the company had spent lakhs, the court replied, “We are not bothered.”

#LokSabhaElections2024: Sharad Pawar Slams Prime Minister Narendra Modi For Repeatedly Criticising Former Prime Ministers And Slamming Their Contributions
NCP (SP) leader Sharad Pawar has claimed former prime ministers worked to make a new India but PM Narendra Modi only criticises others and doesn’t speak about what his government had done for the people in the last ten years.
According to PTI , while addressing a campaign rally in Amravati for a Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate, Pawar said former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s contribution to the country cannot be questioned.
He claimed some BJP leaders had spoken publicly about changing the Constitution and appealed to the people to not allow autocracy to take shape in India.
A high-profile poll battle is shaping up in the Amravati Lok Sabha constituency where the BJP has fielded Navneet Rana, the sitting MP who won the 2019 polls as an Independent candidate, against Balwant Wankhede of Congress.
Pawar alleged PM Modi was trying to create fear and emulating Russian President Vladamir Putin.
Pawar said he has come to apologise to the people of Amravati for the “mistake” he had committed in the 2019 elections by supporting the candidate (Navneet Rana).
“In the last elections, I had sought the support of people and made an appeal (to elect Rana). People elected the candidate I had appealed for. Time has come to amend that mistake,” he said.
Wankhede, who belongs to Congress, is contesting the election as a candidate of the tripartite Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), and Congress.
“After Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, I saw the working of almost all PMs ranging from Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Narasimha Rao to Manmohan Singh. Their efforts were to make a new India, but the incumbent PM only criticises,” Mr Pawar said.
He said that no one in history can forget the contribution of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru but the prime minister (Modi) continuously criticises him.
“Instead of telling what the Central government did in the last ten years, he (Modi) keeps criticising others,” Pawar added.
“We fear that a new Putin is in the making in India”, he said.
He hailed Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray for “shouldering the responsibility to protect the national interest” by working closely with the Congress and the NCP (SP) like in the past.

Marcus Stoinis hit power packed unbeaten ton to lead Lucknow Super Giants to sensational six wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in a Tata IPl 2024 encounter. LSG has now twice beaten the defending champions CSK this time.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants Skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to field first. LSG bowlers initially tied down the CSK batting line- up with tight line and length . Runs were hard to come by . CSK found that early with Ajinkya Rahane out for 1 . Daryl Mitchell struggled for 10 ( 11 balls) unlike Daryl Mitchell innings . Ravindra Jadeja too found it hard and was out tamely for 16 ( 19 balls) .
But strangely CSK Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad it seemed was batting on another pitch . Ruturaj Gaikwad was all timing and placement in his superb innings an unbeaten one – a fine ton 108 ( 60 balls , 12 fours, 3 sixes).
Giving the CSK innings the power push towards the end was the tall- left- hander Shivam Dube. Dube was blistering in his power packed 66 27 balls , 3 fours , 7 sixes) before he was run-out. MSD was not out 4 . CSK after a timid start powered their way to 210/ 4 in their 20 overs.

Stoinis remained unbeaten and hit the winning four to silence the Chennai crowd. It was phenomenal power innings by Stoinis under pressure . He has power arms shoulders and he showed that today in full flow . And the sheer joy on Stoinis face said it all .
Deepak Hooda too remained not out with timely 7 ball 17 . LSG reaching 213/ 4 in 19. 3 overs. They needed 17 off the last over . But Stoinis finished off in style .
