Haha river Styx is here now all we need is Achilles and his mother to dip him in haha
...
Did I ever tell you guys I subscribe to a theory that Pyrrha isn't Achilles?
Oh, sure, arrow to the heel and all that. But Pyrrha really doesn't share much in common with Achilles.
Achilles' defining trait is his rage. His all-consuming anger at the world. It's his flaw, and the story of the Illiad is the story of Achilles overcoming his rage.
He was also given a choice, before he went to war: he could go to war, win glory, but die an early death; or stay away, have a family, and die of old age- but the world would not remember him.
And on top of everything, Achilles is known for his one weakness. The one part of his body that wasn't protected. The part that his mother held.
Pyrrha has more in common with Hector, a Trojan. He was the perfect son, the leader of Troy's defense, and he walked into his final fight knowing he would die, but knowing he could do nothing else.
Hector dies to Achilles.
I don't think that's actually supposed to be the Styx. I don't think Cinder is gonna take a dip in it. Hell, I don't even think Cinder's gonna die.
But I do want to take a moment to point something out:
Achilles began his rage-fueled rampage because someone he loved was killed.
I think when we get Cinder's backstory, she'll have her own Patroclus.

Ren’s hair is a symbol of his inadequacy issues.
Ren is going to cut his hair–like full on cut his braid, mulan style, fully allowing him to open up about his fears and issues.
So I’ve been thinking about Lie Ren (as you do what with this newest chapter) and I’ve come to the realization that Ren’s hair symbolizes his inadequacy issues.
Let me explain: Hair cutting is a big symble that somehome has made a huge character shift. We’ve seen this both with Blake and Jaune who both got new hair stles to represent the growth they’ve gone through. A few other characters havent gotten hair cuts yet (Yang, Weiss, Ren, Oscar ect) which showcases that they’ve still got some character growth to do.
A big part of this volume has been the theme of Self Identity and Self discovery. Characters are discovering who they are, where their feeling lie and what they can bring to the table. With Ren, his whole arc is now being clear that it revolves around his fear of failure and his inability to properly express it. Ren is a very silent character, has been frequently shown to avoid confrontation if he can and has no desire to share them with others.
If you look at rens hair throughout the seasons, It tells his story perfectly.
As a child living in Kuroyuri, his hair was often coiled at the nape of his neck. Kuroyuri, as well as all of Mistral, is very coded as being asian inspired (Particually chinese and japanese repectivly). back within Ancient China, cutting one’s hair was often seen as disrespectful, particular to the parents of the individual since it was considered a blessing that your parents gave you hair in the first place. It was also mostly associated with criminals and prostitutes’, since hair cutting was also a symbol of rebellion and abandonment by society. It was also considered to be a social norm/trend as well, just as many men today wear man-buns or fades due to treads that rear their heads up from time to time in our modern times.
In the case of Ren, when he was a child, his hair represented his fear of conflict and his confindment to Kuroyuri . It was pulled, twisted up, tied back tightly to to the back of his head. It’s kepted close to the back of his head, almost as if he doesn’t want it pulled. His hair is not like either of his fathers, which is a very high shaggy pony tail, or his mothers, which looked to be a free flowing bob with some kind of hair-piece holding it back behind her head. Both his parents’ hairs represent freedom. For the most part, both are lose and free-flowing, with each having one item tying them back to Kuroyuri, their home. With Ren, though his home is Kuroyuri, his hair represents his fear and confinement. He’s very much a scared little boy, and is petrified when his father tells him to run during the Grimm’s attack on the village.

After the village attack, we dont know much about his early teen years. But then we get his Beacon years.
Tumblr media
Now, considering that most of Ren’s backstory was created during volume 4 and considering that Ren was little more than a wet paper napkin with very little personality to go on, it’s safe to say that his hairstyle very much fits his personality in all 3 volumes up till volume 4: It’s a very plain long pony tail, allowing for his bangs to frame his face handsomely. Like his father and mother, his hair is lose enough to convey freedom and movement, but it’s also tied back, which symbolizes his emotional ties to Kuroyuri and his parents.
And then we get to his arguably best look within the show:
Tumblr media
In this look, his hair is completely free. There is nothing at all holding it back. None of this issues that present themselves in Volumes 7 or 8 are here. He is completly free up until he and team RNJR come across Kuroyuri again. When he’s back in Kuroyuri again, his anger and pent up emotions come out. When he’s fighting the nucklavee, his hair flops back into his face, symbolizing that without something to pull back on his emotions, his anger and other powerful emotions will blind him to whatever he’s doing.  This comes to a point where during the fight in Kuroyuri, you can see Ren’s hair flop over his shoulder, framing his face so that the only thing he sees is the nucklavee.
This pattern continues in volumes 4, 5 and 6 with each passing failure and each fight.  And then we get to Volume 7 and 8:
Tumblr media
As you can fee, Ren’s hair is fully tied back into a braid, A tight and thick braid to be clear. As we’ve discussed, when Ren’s hair is tied back, it most likely represents fear and confinement. In the case of Ren’s braid, it very much represents his fear of failure and inadequacy towards being a huntsman. He is so scared and so concerned with the treat of salem, everything that they’ve learned about the relics and the maidens and oscar and so on, that ren has optioned to braid and tie back his hair and ignore it. He wants to ignore his emotions in order to keep himself calm during this very stressful time. But as we’ve seen through volume 7 and 8, ren is getting more and more agitated. He’s ignoring his emotions and fears, choosing to look past it and bury it for a later date.
And Now with Volume 8, It seems that Ren is going to be tackling his emotions and his issues. And if I’m right (Since now that chapter 4 is out and we got a mulan esk cliff scene from it)
we’re most likely going to get a mulan-inpired hair cut for Ren and I’m here for it.
