low quality video ➜ “HD” gifs tutorial! (2022 UPDATE!)

back by popular demand. warning, this is a work in progress! so far I have found this is the best way to restore low quality movie videos into somewhat clear and “hd” gifs. I will update if I discover anything different (:

this works on movies/videos in 720p and lower

you must have basic gif making knowledge

I’m using adobe photoshop cc 23.4.1 (2022) for windows

your gifs are so lovely! I was wondering what settings/tools you use to sharpen your gifs you get this crisp look that I'm trying to achieve but I haven't quite figure it out yet lmao anyway no pressure to answer I'm just curious to what your secret is lol hope you have a lovely day/night!

Hiiii omg thank you, i am happy you like them!!! 😫 😫 😫  When making gifs I only use photoshop cc. After taking screencaps of the video with mpv player ( you can see a tutorial on how to install it and use it here) then I proceed to load my screencaps into photoshop , crop and resizing  the gif( if you don’t know how to gif with screencaps there’s a tutorial here ). After that, I just proceed with sharpen  twice with these following settings. 

1) These are my first settings

2) these are my second settings

Then proceed to add my coloring and save my gif with these settings

After that I open my gif again in photoshop and change the frames delay to 0,05 most of the times and that’s it!! Hope this was helpful, if you need any more help don’t hesitate to hmu!
