Chapter 3
Storm groaned. His eyes felt heavy. In fact, he was aching all over. He felt scratches covering him head to toe. "Ugh..."
He forced his eyes to open and looked around. Shona was bending over him, her thick blonde hair making a curtain around his face. She grinned when she saw his eyes open, and sat up. "Hey, you're alive!"
He spoke in a gravelly voice that hurt his throat, "Um—yeah, I think so."
She laughed and tried to hug him, but then remembered his cuts and bruises. "Oh—uh, sorry!"
He tried to smile and grit his teeth in pain at the same time. "It's, uh, it's okay.
He sat up painfully. "Um, where are we?"
Shona bit her lip. "Well, I don't exactly know. You passed out and the dragon started disintegrating. I had to land. I don't have any medical supplies, so I had to use part of your shirt for bandages."
She pointed to one of his arms. He looked down and saw that his metal armor had been ripped to shreds by dragon scales, the only substance that could penetrate it. His arm was completely bare, his shirt sleeve having been slashed to pieces by Shona's sword. His arm was covered in scrapes, gashes, and bruises, oozing yellow pus in several places. Shona winced. "Um, yeah. I didn't have anything to rise out your wounds with so..."
Storm groaned. "Great. Thanks for trying, Shona."
"Do you think you could summon anything to fly us home? A dragon or giant peacock or whatever it is you like to fly on?" Shona asked.
Storm shook his head, then winced at the pain. "Um, I don't think so. Not until I am recovered."
Shona frowned. "Hmm..."
"You could teleport, couldn't you?" Storm inquired.
Shona nodded slowly. "That's our only option, so..."
She closed her eyes and grabbed Storm's hand. One of her powers was the power of teleportation. She could teleport herself, and any object she wanted to teleport that was touching her. She could also teleport humans if she wanted to, but it was very tiring.
She concentrated on the medical sector of the base, breathing deeply. There was a wooshing sound, and she opened her eyes. She was sprawled across Storm in the medical sector of the base. A little bit of a sloppy landing, but she'd done it.
She got up quickly and brushed herself off, hurrying off to find something to clean his wounds with.
Storm's body ached from Shona's weight being on him, but it was bearable. He noticed that Shona was bleeding in several places as well, though she hadn't mentioned it. She was tough, and that was one of the things Storm admired about her.
Shona came back a few minutes later with a warm washcloth, some kind of alcohol to clean his wounds with, gauze, and bandages. She handed him the washcloth. "Just wipe off the wounds with this and rub the alcohol stuff on them. I'll help you with the bandages if you need it."
Storm nodded. He began to wipe out the wounds and rub the alcohol on them. It stung badly, but he knew it would help him. Then he wrapped bandages on himself and stood up, aching, but no longer bleeding. He turned to a tired looking Shona. "Why don't you go rest? You look really tired. I'm gonna go take a nap."
Shona frowned. "But what about Breezi and Ivy? We need to get them back!"
Storm nodded. "We can in the morning. First we need rest. We can't go like this! You really should look in the mirror, Shona. You don't look so good yourself."
Shona shrugged. "Alright. But we are going first thing in the morning to go get them."
Storm nodded. "Of course. Now get some rest."
With that, he walked off, leaving Shona to tend to her own wounds. He trudged into his room, suddenly feeling exhausted. He fell onto his bed. He plunged into a deep sleep, plagued with worries of what tomorrow might bring.
When he woke, he felt tired, but determined. They were going to save Breezi and Ivy today. When he stood up, he realized he was still wearing his ripped and bloody clothes from yesterday. He changed andcleaned up a little, then headed to the kitchen where Shona was munching on cereal. "Morning! We need to get going if we want any night cover. It'll be dark until 6 o'clock probably, so go ahead and eat."
Storm looked at the clock. It was 5:25. He was surprised he'd woken himself up that early. Usually he had to set an alarm. He grabbed some cornflakes and sat down across from Shona at the old, rickety table that Breezi had been meaning to fix. Turning to Shona, he asked, "So, what's the plan?"
Shona snapped into focus. She loved making up plans, though she wasn't very good at it. "OK. Number one. You summon a stealth dragon, you know, the ones that camoflauge themselves and anyone who is riding them?"
Storm nodded. "Yeah..."
Shona grinned. "You summon a stealth dragon. We look for that big red building Breezi talked about. We land and let the dragon return to bone. Then, we go in that disguised door Breezi told us about."
Storm frowned, seeing a slight flaw in the plan. "What if the door is so well disguised that we can't find it?"
Shona rolled her eyes. "If seven-year-old Breezi can find it, we definitely can. We're a little more observant than a seven-year-old, I think."
Storm was less sure. "First of all, Breezi is really clever and could probably find a needle in a hay stack just by looking at the hay. Second of all, she saw those men go through it. She didn't even have to find it."
Shone scowled. "Well, if you want to contradict all of my plans, then why don't you make up your own plans."
Storm frowned. "I was just—"
She stood up and said angrily, "If you want my help, you have to accept it."
She stormed away leaving Storm dumbfounded. Shona never got angry. She was always the happy, cheerful one.
He sat there for a while, then remembered what their conversation had been about. Saving Ivy and Breezi. He stood up and put his breakfast bowl in the sink, then dashed off for Shona's room. When he got to the door, he didn't even have time to knock. Shona opened the door and started talking rapidly. He could barely tell what she was saying. "Storm, I am so so sorry. I shouldn't have snapped at you. You're right, there are flaws to my plan. And, well, I'm just really worried about Ivy and Breezi." She looked down. "I was an idiot. I hope you'll forgive me."
Storm rolled his eyes. "Of course I'll forgive you. And I'm sorry for contradicting you. I—"
Shona interrupted. "No, you didn't do anything wrong. I'm just snappy right now, and well, I'm really worried about Ivy and Breezi."
Storm nodded. "Okay, enough apologizing. We will get them back. But we need to get ready now. I'm going to go get my battlegear on. You should, too."
"Oh yeah," Shona nodded.
Storm smiled at her, then walked off to get ready. He grabbed his backup armor and pulled it on. Then, he walked back over to the main room where Shona was sheathing her sword. He grabbed his scythe and fixed it to his belt. He secured it tightly. He noticed how quiet it was without Breezi and Ivy around. It made him sad, but even more determined to go save them.
Shona pulled up her stretchy chainmail hood on her armor. She turned to Storm. "You ready?"
Storm shrugged. "Ready as I'll ever be."
And together, they walked out of the base to begin their mission.

Chapter 2
As she headed for her room, Shona tapped her phone, searching for good, upbeat music to cheer her up. Finally deciding on a pop playlist, she began to dance down the long, tiled hallway to her room, slowly feeling better. When she reached her room, she flung open the door and strolled inside. Grabbing her armor out of the closet, she began to change into her battle gear.
She strapped her sword onto her belt and pulled her hair into a high ponytail. Then, she put on her watch that Breezi had made and the bracelet that her mom had given her when she was little to help her control her powers. After that, she plopped down on her bed and started scrolling through her list of battle techniques that she kept on her phone. “Hmm. This one looks like a good option.”
As she studied her phone, she heard a knock on her door. “Come in!”
When the door opened, she saw that it was Breezi, dressed in armor, with her silver knife in her weapon belt that she fit around her slim waist, complete with puffy eyes and a runny nose that indicated the fact that she had been crying. “Hey Breez, what’s wrong?”
She smiled, but it was strained. “Eh, nothing. Just remembering things. It doesn’t matter.”
“You sure?”  I asked her worriedly. “Was it about Tornado?”
Breezi shrugged and said, “I’m fine. Anyway, you ready to beat some idiots up?”
Shona laughed. “I thought you’d never ask.”
The two girls made their way to the main room, where Ivy and Strom were strapping on their weapons. Ivy was tying a laser pistol to her waist and Storm was attaching his scythe to his crossbody weapon holder.
           “You ready?” he asked grimly.
“Ready as we’ll ever be,” said Breezi just as gravely.
“We can do this! They’ve never worked as a team before. We will crush them,” Shona flashed a winning smile.
           Ivy smirked. “Whatever you say.”
“Alright. Let’s get going,” said Breezi. “Everyone, weapons ready. Trackers on. Shona, you got your watch on?”
They all had watches that could communicate, be used as a flashlight, and cut through solid objects with a laser. Unfortunately, they couldn’t tell time. Shona always lost hers, so Breezi didn’t hesitate to ask her first.
Shona smiled and held up her wrist. She was used to this question. “Only lost it once since Sunday!”
Storm rolled his eyes. “Sunday was yesterday. Now can we go? Clearly we won’t have the element of surprise but that doesn’t mean we have to give them that advantage!”
Ivy nodded. “We’ve got everything we need, now let’s get a move on.”
She pushed open the door to find a line of teenagers standing about ten feet away in the grassy plain surrounding the base. It was the twins. She didn’t know how they had found it since it was surrounded by tall pine trees, masking the fairly small base.
Shona pushed past her saying, “What’s holding you—oh.”
She saw her own twin, Ocean, deep blue eyes glistening and long blond hair, identical to Shona’s, fluttering in the soft breeze coming from Breezi’s brother, Tornado, who was standing next to her, wind-blown brown hair surrounding his pale face and brilliant green eyes. Next to him, holding out a white flag, was Fleur, Ivy’s twin. Her long, dark brown hair was intertwined with long green grass and her deep brown cow eyes seemed to indicate a kind, gentle nature, but Shona knew better. Fleur was just as horrible as the others. Shona wondered why she was carrying a white flag. But before she could dwell on it too much, she noticed who was standing next to Fleur.
It was a boy. He was dressed in all black with a hood covering half his face. The bottom half of his face was visible, however, and a twisted smile creeped across it, making his features that were supposedly identical to Storm’s look nothing like Storm’s at all. It was Galaxy, the person they had hoped would never attack. “Greetings, brother.”
Surprisingly, his voice was rich and smooth, despite his creepy smile. Storm looked like he’d remembered something horrible as he saw Tornado, Ocean and Fleur put on what looked like sunglasses. “Whatever you do, do not look at his eyes!”
The bottom half of Galaxy’s face smirked. “I have very nice eyes, for your information. Identical to yours, mom said. But I never believed that. I was always the handsome one, don’t you think? Anyway, brother, we come in peace. Didn’t you see our white flag?”
Fleur waved it. “We just came to deliver a message. For Shona, I believe. Very secret really.”
She smiled what was probably supposed to be a winning smile, but instead she looked murderous.
Shona eyed her suspiciously. “I’m not listening to any messages from you. You’ll just attack if I come any closer. Or you’ve somehow cursed the message to kill us and I’ll die if I listen to it.”
Ocean rolled her eyes. “Everyone else would die too, idiot.”
Shona wasn’t going to budge. She turned to her ally elementals. “Do we attack?”
Storm opened his mouth to say something, but a giant tendril of water came out from nowhere and scooped him up, shooting 50 feet in the air. Shona cried out in outrage when she saw her sister, arm extended to the sky, making the water boil and freeze and sway. If she kept going, she would end up killing Storm. “I thought you needed a bit of convincing.”
Shona thrust her hand into the sky, determined to get Storm down. That’s when the enemy struck. Fleur dropped her flag and drew a sword. Tornado whipped out his two knives. Fighting with two knives didn’t sound like a great technique, but he was very skilled at it.
Meanwhile, Galaxy strolled over, hand hovering over his hood like he was about to pull it down. Breezi and Ivy stood in front of Shona, shielding her so that she could keep her powers focused on Storm.
Storm, though terrified, kept shouting, “Whatever you do, do not look in his eyes!”
Shona yelled up to him, “Summon something! Quick!”
One of Storm’s powers as an elemental was summoning dead animals from the ground and using them to his will. He was a type of necromancer. It wasn’t always convenient, however, because it took a while to summon them. To summon a dragon, which was what they needed right now, it could take up to five minutes of concentration. They would have to buy time.
That’s when Galaxy pulled down his hood. Shona looked down, but Ivy and Breezi didn’t have time. They turned away from the enemy and instead turned to me. At that point, Ocean dropped her hand and let Storm fall down. Shona cushioned the fall with water but he was still too far away to help and he was still concentrating on summoning a dragon.
The enemy advanced on her, now with Breezi and Ivy being mind controlled of something. She was outnumbered six to one. That’s when the ground began to shake. A large, scaled clawed paw erupted from the earth. The enemy shouted retreat and backed away, they knew what dragons could do. Breezi and Ivy went with them, shouting, “We’ll come back for you. You can never get away from us.”
Shona wished she could grab them and bring them back with her to the base, but she knew they were being controlled and they could spy for the enemy or try to kill her and Storm.
He swooped in on the dragon, holding out a hand. Shona grabbed it and climbed on. They took off, swooping past the base and into the forest. They would be safest there until the enemy was gone because Breezi and Ivy could show them the way into the base and they wouldn’t be perfectly safe until the enemy was far away. Storm needed to switch the security methods so that Ivy and Breezi were locked out until they were rescued and put back in their right minds.
Storm winced slightly as they took off. Shona didn’t see why. The dragon’s takeoff was perfectly smooth.
Then she saw the large spots on his armor that looked as if they had been melted. He had to be covered in burns under his armor. He had to be in a lot of pain. Shona noticed that he wasn’t looking great. His body sagged and his eyes looked like they were about to close. As he lost consciousness, Shona pushed him over so he was laying against the dragon. “That should help. Oh no…”
The dragon had started losing scales rapidly. Without Storm’s magic keeping it alive, it wouldn’t last much longer. The scales began flying off, cutting her in several places. Dragon scales were the only substance that could penetrate their armor. She could only imagine how scraped up Storm was getting; he was laying right against the dragon. “Come on, Storm. Just give me a little more power. You can do it!”
She shook him slightly and winced as blood spilled onto her hands. “Maybe not…”
She steered what was left of the dragon to the ground. When they hit, the dragon crumbled apart, and Shona and Strom tumbled off, getting more bruises on the way. Shaking, Shona stood up and leaned over Storm. He was pale and bleeding in several places. Dragon scales protruded from his armor like darts. Several of the cuts looked like they were going to need stitches or Breezi’s skilled healing magic.
Discouraged, Shona looked around. They were in a small clearing in an oak forest. Dandelions and daisies adorned the tall, green grass.
Shona sighed in defeat. They were in the middle of nowhere, with no food or medical supplies, and Storm’s life on the line.

Chapter 1
Shona tapped the buttons on the complicated looking computer without success. "Honestly, Breez, it's no use. I'll never get the hang of this thing."
She sat back in her chair and started spinning around.
Breezi grabbed the chair and twisted it back toward the computer. "You aren't even trying! Come on, Shona, at least try to use the 3D printer or something. It's the easiest feature!"
Breezi had been trying to teach Shona how to use a computer all day. She wanted her to be able to 3D print something. She was always asking Breezi to do it instead.
Shona sighed. "Alright. What do I do?"
But before Breezi could instruct her, Storm burst into the room. "There is a bit of a problem on the radar."
Breezi groaned. "What is it?"
"Just check the radar."
Having a bit of a problem wasn't new to any of them. The reason was because they were elementals. Elementals were people gifted with special powers based on their element. Each of them had a different element that they represented and they each had skills that came with them. Shona was gifted with water powers and represented the water element, Storm was gifted with gravity powers and represented gravity, Breezi was gifted with wind powers and represented wind, and Ivy, the other element who had just entered the room, represented plants and had plant powers.
The reason that they were used to having a bit of a problem was because they weren't the only elementals. They all had twins, which came with being an elemental. But their twins didn't try to defend the world like they did, they tried to attack the worldand gain power. They each represented the same element as their twin, but had different skills and powers, which made it hard to anticipate the way they would attack. The only good thing about them was that they worked alone, while Storm, Ivy, Breezi, and Shona worked together to defend themselves from attack. They could always overpower an attack if they were ready for it. There was one strange thing about the twins, though. Storm's twin, Galaxy, never attacked them. He stayed away. The only way that they knew he was just as evil as the others was because he had tried to kill Storm when he was little.
Nervously, Breezie opened the radar. It showed where their twins are within two miles of their base. They could track them by setting up a specially made satellite (made by Breezi of course) that could sense their powers when they were close enough. "No. It can't be. Why are there four dots on the screen?"
Storm nodded grimly. "They have joined forces. And Galaxy is with them."
Shona tried to smile. "Maybe it's just a mistake on the radar?"
Ivy rolled her eyes. "Have you met Breezi? She doesn't make mistakes with tech."
Breezi half-smiled while Shona shrugged. "Just trying to look on the bright side."
Storm squared his shoulders. "Come on guys! We can take them! Go get your battle gear. Let's move!"
"If we want any hope of taking them we need to go now," Breezie agreed. Shona nodded and dashed off to get ready. Breezie followed her lead, trudging down the hallway to her own room. She wasn't much of a fighting type, she mostly just encouraged her friends to keep going and worked with tech and medicine. But they were going to need her this time.
Sometimes she wished she could have a normal have a normal life. But that wasn't possible for elementals. They didn't have a choice. Their duty was to protect the world from harm.
As she changed into her battle armor, a sleek suit of metal that covered all of her body except for her face, she thought about the time she had first found out that she was an elemental.
She was seven. She was playing with her twin brother, Tornado, when someone pounded on the door. Her mother smiled and said, "It must be the delivery man with your notepad and pencils, sweetheart!"
She had opened the door to find two tall men in grey suits. Her eyes widened and she tried to shut the door but before she could, one of the men planted his foot firmly between the door and the doorframe. Smiling coolly, he said, "We've come for your children."
Her mother screamed and tried to force the men out of the house. "Breezi, Tornado! The backdoor is unlocked. RUN!"
Tears filled the twin's eyes as they shouted, "MOMMY!"
Then Tornado dragged Breezi away. He struggled to get the backdoor open, but with a final tug, it gave away. Then, clutching each other's hands, they ran. They ran through the forest. They didn't stop until they were deep in the woods. It was quiet for a while and they rested for a bit. Then, a twig snapped.
"Hide!" Breezi whispered to her twin.
She dashed up a tree while Tornado dove behind some bushes. They were barely able to hide themselves before the same men in the grey suits appeared, though they looked tattered and worn now. Their suits were ripped in several places, which pleased Breezi.
"Where'd the little brats go? Boss'll murder us if we don't bring back both o' them this time," the taller of the two men grumbled.
"I don't know why boss even needs more elementals. He already has three. With the injection he's given them, they'll be fiercer than the few that got away and these two combined," the other man, who had thick, red hair said.
"I think this is payback for letting three of the elementals get away. He was pretty angry when we messed up three times in a—"
They had both grown still as they heard leaved rustle in the nearby shrubs. "That's not an animal..."
Breezi watched in horror as both men strode over to the bushes and pulled Tornado out from behind them and took him away, laughing. Breezi climbed down from her tree. She knew she had to follow him. She crept behind them until they reached a huge, rusty building covered in peeling paint that said "Crusty's Potato Chips," then under that "Bring on the crunch!" Breezi slipped in through a cleverly disguised door that was covered in peeling paint a few seconds after the men had entered, careful to check to make sure they didn't see her. She searched until she found a long room full of doors that looked like prison doors. She peeked into the cells as she passed. When she reached the one with Tornado in it, she whisper-called, "Tornado! Wake up! You—"
But before she could finish, she heard a familiar voice call her name.
"Mommy?"
She hurried over to a cell that she hadn't gotten to yet. Her mother sat huddled in the corner, scraped and bruised, bleeding in several places. It was scary for Breezi to see her mom like that.
Her mother said worriedly, "You shouldn't be here."
Tears filling her eyes, Breezi replied, "I followed those men here. They have Tornado."
Her mother looked sad. "Sweetheart, I know you love your brother, but you have to go. There is nothing you can do. You need to get away before they can find you. I'm sorry that you have to live like this, Breez. But the life of an elemental is never easy."
"Mommy, what's an elemental?" Breezi asked, looking confused.
Her mother smiled slightly. "You are an elemental. You represent the wind. You were gifted with the powers to control the wind. To feel it. That's why I named you Breezi. You have quick instincts and endurance that you have already shown today," her eyes glistened with love and grief. "You are very powerful. If they find you here, they could use your powers to destroy the world, not save it like an elemental is meant to do. Your duty is to protect the world and yourself from evil even if it means protecting the world from your brother."
"What does that mean? Tornado—"
"Yu will figure it out. I believe in you Breezi. I love you. Now run!"
"But you and Tornado—"
Then Breezi stopped. She knew her mother was right. She didn't know how she knew it, but she did. "I love you mommy. I will come back for you soon!"
And she escaped, and promised herself that someday she would save both her mother and Tornado.
As Breezi remembered the sad day, tears glistened in her eyes. She let them fall, and with every tear, she promised herself again that she would save them, no matter what it might take. She would find a way to save them from the horrible men in grey suits that were the cause of the fear and sadness she had lived in for the last seven years.
