I need everyone to understand about the fremen.
They do not cry. Ever.
To give water to the dead is the most sacred honor that anyone could give but they rarely and never do that because it's ingrained in them to not waste water from birth. A single tear could mean life and death for them. To give water to the living? Unheard of.
Paul crying over killing Jamis in the book was a moment that astonished the fremen around him. Jessica ponders their reactions and knows that this is a holy moment.
Jessica then forcing Chani to cry for Paul(this was not in the book btw but I love it) is the ultimate betrayal of her autonomy. To force her to give what is essentially a piece of her life to him without her consent is sacrilegious and she knows it.
Water of Life indeed.

Possible Dune 2 spoiler 🤷
I totally didnt notice that Chani used a blue scarf to tie her hair. When i saw that scarf in her hand in the third act I was wondering what flag that represented. It was Chani's own 'flag'. The implications of that!

When Paul opens his eyes after Chani revives him, and instead of happy, relieved, triumphant music, the most terrifying, threatening, ominous sound plays over the scene.
Chills. Anxiety, even. A monster opening his eyes after a deep slumber. An ancient god awakening for the first time.

They called for a man she once knew, their would-be Messiah. The friends, the family, she saw reflected in their fanaticism was a stranger, consumed by a future she didn't believe in. She couldn't bear witness to it.
She knew they would never come look for her in the south. Her displeasure for the Messiah was known, so she let the worm take her to the temples of the south where all they knew was the worship of a God.
“Hulda,” is what she tells them when they ask for her name. The worshipers of the Muad'Dib do not know any better and so they believe the false name.

Dune *spoilers* ahead
What I loved the most about Dune pt 2 is how it portrays that a people's fight for freedom must be leaded by their own. Yes, they need supporters, but by the end Paul in on the main stage and has his own interests to think. And where does the Fremen fit in that scenario? When Chani says to Paul that she loves him but he will never truly be from the desert, it really sends the message he comes from a very different life than those who are indigenous to Arrakis, and therefore has different views. So what is to Paul an initial quest to help them claim their planet back, becomes tainted with the quest for his own power. At the end there is still dominance, but now under a different guise, afterall he did win like a Harkonnen.

"I'll love you as long as I breathe" hits different when you realise Chani sees his breathing stop during the water of life scene

can’t stop thinking about that shot where everyone in the room is kneeling and princess irulan, paul, and chani are the only ones standing. paul’s back to chani signifying his betrayal while princess irulan and chani are eye to eye - both heartbroken over what the man between them has done. my chest hurts that was so beautifully executed
