NIKE TASK
What I found interesting in Nike advertising strategy is that at this point, they don’t really need to advertise a specific product – what attracts people to their products is the lifestyle that they are trying to ‘’sell’’.
People unconsciously think that getting one of their products will make them a little step further towards a healthy, active lifestyle which many people envies.
I have realised throughout my research that that Nike is really trying to create an impression that they care about people’s health, trying to motive people to stay active, to stay healthy, to push their limits and boundaries, however, neither of these is true – they just want to sell their product, just like any other company. Don’t get me wrong, obviously promoting health and active lifestyle is a good thing however, most of the people wearing Nike’s products are not athletes – just ordinary people, not necessary into sports.
The thing that drags my attention towards the company more than images of people pushing their limits, is the humour that they introduce in of some of the advertising posters (example pic 1&4). I think that’s a very effective way of advertising a company, people like seeing unusual adverts, and they are more likely to remember an advert with a little bit of humour in it.
They promote equality, and that’s a very valuable nowadays. They adverts really try to bring across the fact that no matter who you are, where were you born, how much support you get – the most important thing is believing in yourself, no matter if people discourage you and tell you otherwise.
Nike’s advertising definitely has a lot of thought put into it, in their adverts they show a variety of different cultures, different environments, different people, you can tell that their advertisement department is filled with many creative people and they definitely invest a lot of money in their advertisement even though they are such a big company nowadays, that even without the adverts people would still buy their products, as it became a part of the pop culture.

Flash Light Practice
FLASH LIGHT USED :
CANON 430 ex 3rt
WITHOUT A FLASH GUN :
WITH A FLASH GUN :
The photo was taken in the exact same lighting condition, however the second one was taken using a additional source of light - a flash light.
It has really made a big difference in how the photograph looks like.
At first I have experimented a bit to figure out how to control the strength of the flash, and also how to darken the background by increasing the shutter speed, I really like that technique, makes the images look a lot more professional.

Low Key | Mid Key | High Key
Today in class we looked at examples of low/mid/high key photography and tried to recreate some images using our studio equipment.
Low Key Photography :
underlit images that feature dramatic contrast and dark colors.
Mid Key Photography :
a more balanced approach. It aims to use both shadows and highlights, ensuring neither entirely dominates the scene.
High Key :
style of photography that uses unusually bright lighting to reduce or completely blow out dark shadows in the image.

Saikou Apparel | Research
For this project we are collaborating with a small clothing brand called Saikou Apparel - are a street fashion brand founded by a YouTuber called RossBoomSocks- its kind of a march for his YouTube channel but he wanted it to be more fashionable than the others.
They are strongly inspired by the Korean and Japanese street fashion. They want to make the Asian Street Fashion more popular in Europe even though I personally think that it is already very popular.
I’m Planning on using colour gel filters to and photograph my models in colourful lighting to give the photos a futuristic Bladerunner/Cyberpunk look.

Light Up The Dark
My setup was a really poor one as I didn't have an access to a steady, solid tripod. I have borrowed one of of my friend who happened to have one. I had to attach m camera to it with tape for it not to move around.
First results after the first attempt at the post production.
First thing Ive realised is that the image is too dark and the fire is not too appealing. I had to make the fire a bit bigger so I have decided to use a faster shutter speed just for the fire, instead of shooting it on a lower shutter speed like the rest of the images.
Here is my unstraighten version

Light Up The Dark | Research | Planning
For this project I have decided to be mainly inspired by a photographer called Harold Ross. Last year during the Winter Fest I have attended one of his talks and I as totally blown away by his work.
Harold Ross
Born into a military family in 1956, Harold grew up in New Mexico and Germany. His parents were adventurous, and took the family on outings almost every weekend... hiking in the desert, horseback riding and camping in the mountains, exploring castles and old gardens in Germany and camping in Italy. These outings, of course, left many lasting impressions.
After moving back with his family to the U.S., Harold began photographing. As a young teenager, he bought his first camera, a GAF Instamatic. He still has the camera today.
Harold is deeply influenced by the work of Wynn Bullock and W. Eugene Smith.
He earned a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), after which he produced fine art and taught photography at the college level for several years.
Since 1979, Harold has been creating distinctive work in the studio, as well as in the night landscape. For over 30 years, Harold has specialized in Light Painting; an usual and difficult technique involving "painting" the light over a long time exposure.
His large scale color work has been exhibited, published and collected in the U.S. and internationally. In 2011, Harold was invited to participate in an exhibition of landscape photography in Inner Mongolia, along with 10 other American and 20 Chinese photographers.
I am totally amazed by his still life works, however, looking deeper into his portfolio I have found that he has done such photographs on a bigger scale objects.
These images are beyond amazing, they look more like a painting than a photograph.
I have decided to challenge myself and photograph a fireplace using his technique. This is the fireplace that I will be photographing:
I have photographed a SINGER sawing machine in the past using this technique and I really enjoyed the process of ‘’sculpting with light’’ as well as the post production process.
It will be really challenging to achieve the same effect on a 3 meter tall object rather a small sawing machine.
