Now that I'm done with the show, some thoughts:
• The Dickinson poem in the intro, it mentions the human brain being deeper than the sea and wider than the sky. Meaning, Maura is still in a simulation, maybe another simulation. It can be a simulation within a simulation.
• The poem also suggests that our mind is as great a creator as God. Does this mean a giant human brain-like programme is imagining and running everything? Possible!
• Kate Chopin's Awakening has one wife, one husband who's oblivious to wife's needs and a lover who runs away from intense feelings to protect the woman. However, I wonder which one is Eyk and which one's Daniel. The main character also jumps into the ocean in the end to find 'freedom'
• It's kinda ironic Daniel managed to corrupt the Kerberos simulation, as Kerberos is also the name of a software that aims to authenticate data of a client once a secured connection to the server is established.
I somehow doubt Daniel exists. If it's a two layered simulation, I think Eyk is the husband in reality. But he's always 'called by the sea' or is a workaholic, so Maura made a simulation to keep herself happy. Her home away from home, her freedom.
Daniel is a programme she created for that happiness and Eliott IS their son in that simulation. But Eliott might have been corrupted, which causes him to 'die' and Maura creates a further layer of simulation to keep him safe. And Daniel tries to save her every time, because it's in his programming to keep Maura happy. Which is why he and Eliot can corrupt the simulation so easily.
It is also a sign that only Daniel, Eyk and Maura has surnames revealed. Which means the others might not be real people after all!

Me watching 1899 and the bad guy isn’t actually the bad guy and tells the main character that they aren’t asking the right questions and that they are in a loop that they created and they need to break it and to not trust the person they trusted just five minutes ago

I love that the writers of 1899 knew it was absolutely imperative that Daniel be soaking wet most of the time
