unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.

So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)
Reblog to increase sample size!

Bit telling that for years and years evangelical religious extremists have been allowed on university campuses with their bullhorns and horrific imagery where they harass students into physical altercations and when students complain to the university’s administration they just shrug their shoulders citing freedom of speech but when those same tuition-paying students start protesting against war and genocide they call SWAT

Hello, today is my birthday, and I would like to share a comic I made in the last year with you. It's called Broomistega and Thrinaxodon.
This comic was originally printed with yellow, fluorescent pink, light teal, and violet risograph inks. Physical copies are available in my shop.

i’ve been a trans content creator across many different platforms for four years now. and every time i jumped on a new platform, i used to have the same naive hope that i’d find a place on the internet where trans people are safe. but it’s never safe. there isn’t any platform that i’ve been on that i haven’t faced harassment and where my friends and others like me haven’t been unjustly banned.
the first reaction that i had to seeing the stuff about prestrogen was “ah here we go again”. and that’s such a jaded response. and it’s so easy to feel defeated because i’m furious and i’m tired.
but also i think it’s important to remind myself (and anyone else who needs to hear it) that every time i’ve seen this happen, along with the understandable and justified outrage of the trans community, i have also seen incredible resilience and solidarity from both the queer community and from allies.
we should be angry. but we also need to remember that love and support within the community IS resistance. and it’s every bit as powerful and important as righteous fury.
dont isolate yourself. take care of yourself but also check in on your friends.
im mostly telling myself but also im sure some one else needs to remember this too.

Fellow Windows 11 users: how to disable newly-installed Microsoft AI!
Folks, with the new updates that've come down recently, Microsoft has installed its "Copilot" AI app on your machine. It apparently cannot be removed.
But it can be disabled.
ETA: first of all, try these less-invasive/difficult options via @sky-blaze:
The slightly more complex and risky approach (as regedit is never entirely safe) comes via the excellent Pihko Misit, aka @smokepaw.bsky.social over at Bluesky). I've just done this to my own desktop machine, and all's well with it now.
Here's what to do:
(1) You need to have Admin rights for the machine and be logged in to the administrator account.
Now, right-click on the Start menu (Windows logo on the Taskbar.) A menu pops up; about half way down it you'll see Terminal and Terminal (Admin). Click on the Terminal (Admin) option.
(2) A DoS-like box will open. (For those of you who've never interacted with a Windows terminal window before, it looks like this:)
Tumblr media
On the command line (i.e. the first empty line), copy and paste this:
reg add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot /v TurnOffWindowsCopilot /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
Then hit Enter.
If successful, you'll see a line pop up saying so. Congratulations! But you're not quite finished.
Now you need to close all programs and fully shut down the machine. A restart isn't enough, it needs to be fully powered down and started back up.
"And now," Pihko says, "ou have a NSA-like AI spy dormant on your machine. Stay vigilant, odds are it'll turn back on with future updates! Big Corporate wants you to be compliant. Don't be!"

I would be so grateful if folks could vote to help save the Mon Keang Chinese school in Vancouver’s Chinatown — the school is in this year’s Next Great Save contest, hoping to receive the necessary funds to restore their historically important 99-year old building. Personally, I am hoping that this culturally relevant and needed space that was built at at the peak of the Chinese Exclusion Act is able to stay in Chinatown, as the building is also under threat due to rapid gentrification and displacement in the area.
Voting only takes 5 seconds!
About Mon Keang school:
Mon Keang School was established in Vancouver’s Chinatown in 1925 at the peak of the Chinese Exclusion Act and its racial discrimination. As a building situated at the heart of Chinatown, Mon Keang is more than just a place for a community-based language school, but also a space that offers intergenerational social gatherings and cultural teachings. The school is soon approaching its 100th year anniversary and the historical building has significant wear and tear from many years of serving the community. For Mon Keang to continue supporting community needs for safe spaces to learn, celebrate history and culture, and engage in storytelling with elders, votes are needed!
Voting rules:
1. One vote per email address once per day 2. Voting ends May 6
Thank you for your support!
