The Dundies are held at a fictitious restaurant called Louis Volpe, where the breadsticks apparently taste like crack. The exterior scenes, when we’re all out in the parking lot, and the establishing shots were filmed at Barone’s Restaurant in Valley Glen, California…..Now, the interior for The Dundies was not filmed at Barone’s Restaurant. It was a set that we built over on our warehouse stages. Randy even sent us a blueprint of Michael Gallenberg’s design. It is so elaborate. -Jenna
So, yeah, John Krasinski. Man, why he didn’t win an Emmy, why you didn’t, why the whole freaking cast didn’t win more awards because the show is delivering right here. Ken shared on the DVD commentary and note that he gave John for this scene, and I thought it was great. And I want you guys to hear it.
Ken Kwapis The one thing I told John to remember is that over the course of this series, he’s developed a relationship with the documentary camera operator. And so when John emerges from the room to make the call to Dwight, something about seeing his pal, the film- the cameraman kind of suddenly got him very choked up.
Paul Lieberstein Wow, what a great note.
Jennifer Celotta He had told me this look.
Ken Kwapis Because we debated whether or not he should be so wrapped up in the moment that he should ignore the camera. But in fact, it was the opposite.
Jennifer Celotta The look right there that look, it was.
Ken Kwapis It was almost like, you know, the cameraman has been sharing so much of what’s going on with Jim that, you know, that it became very important to acknowledge him here.
So the look he is talking about happens at 20 minutes, 50 seconds. And you guys know these moments in your life where you’re feeling all of this emotion and then you see a good friend. And it just comes pouring out of you. It’s that person that says, Are you OK when youre not OK. And I loved that, and I’m so glad that they had John as Jim look to camera and look to his friend. It’s a brilliant note. It’s great directing by Ken Kwapis. And a great performance by John. -Angela & Jenna
Well, this all leads us into this Pam talking head that gets quoted back to me all the time. It’s a very sweet talking head. It is. Pam says when you’re young, you assume your parents are soul mates. Her kids are going to be right about that. -Angela & Jenna
