“A twenty-year-old man who had been watching the Boston Marathon had his body torn into by the force of a bomb. He wasn’t alone; a hundred and seventy-six people were injured and three were killed. But he was the only one who, while in the hospital being treated for his wounds,...

I went to church with my family tonight and the pastor said something that I think every Christian should hear
Pastor: Now, according to a few passages in the bible, homosexuality is a sin.
Couple of older males in the audience: Amen!
Pastor: Now, wait, I'm not finished.
Pastor: You know what else the bible defines as a sin? Divorce.
-uncomfortable silence-
Pastor: There are countless passages that talk about how divorce is wrong, and that there are consequences to getting a divorce, such as the wife should be stoned.
Pastor: Yet, I witnessed a divorce just this morning. And I gotta tell you, it was heartbreaking, but I definitely didn't attempt to throw rocks at the wife, even though she was the one who filed for divorce.
Pastor: We choose to overlook the consequences of divorce because time has proven that they're inhumane and cruel.
Pastor: The bible doesn't say anything about the consequences of a homosexual lifestyle. Yet, we seem to be spearheading a campaign to ruin the lives of people we don't even know.
-the pastor shifts a few notes around-
Pastor: The bible states to love thy neighbor. That's it. There are no other rules or restrictions to that passage.
Pastor: So, we as a church family have to support equality with a smile on our face. THAT is the true Christian way.

This picture argues that guns are used for protection rather than killing people. It is saying that the evil comes from the people holding the weapons rather than the weapons themselves. Guns are what the military uses to protect our freedom of speech, so the argument is that banning guns is taking away our protection and a freedom that was given to us.

This picture is an example of an argument for gun control,  it is saying that our vote has the power to stop the damage of guns such as assault rifles.  Our vote is the difference between keeping our ways with no gun control and allowing almost anyone to buy a gun, or trying to lower crime rates and gun related violence.

Political statement of the day: More smiling children, less dangerous weapons. It’s that simple. #figureitout #guncontrol #instapoli (at Mass Pike)

This picture displays an argument that is against gun control.  This is saying that if you take our guns away, criminals will still have them and we will be vulnerable to them.  However the gun control laws would require background checks, which would still allow "Law abiding citizens" to own guns if they pass requirements and would most certainly lower the number of criminals with guns.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles roll
ed into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full.. The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’ The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.. ‘Now,’ said the professor as the laughter subsided, ‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things—-your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions—-and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.. The sand is everything else—-the small stuff. ‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued, ‘there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and mow the lawn. Take care of the golf balls first—-the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand. One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented. The professor smiled and said, ‘I’m glad you asked.’ The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

Whenever I drive over this road I like to scream, “FRED, IF YOU’RE REAL, YOU BETTER TELL ME RIGHT NOW!!”
It’s especially awkward if I’m in a cab at the time.

Work and Play
Mark Twains assertion that work and play are the same thing under different circumstances is true if you like the work that you are doing. Some people would think of their job as play because they enjoy doing their job. But if they do not enjoy it then it is just work.

Twain Response
I agree with Twains assertion that work and play are the same thing under different conditions, if you like the job that you have. Sometimes work is more of a burden if you do not like your job. To me it's only play if you enjoy your job and it's something you wanted to do. If you get payed for doing something you enjoy doing, you're "playing" but because you're getting payed you're also working for it which makes it much more enjoyable than usual.

Quote
"The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating...and you finish off as an orgasm."

Altruism
Altruism- the principle or practice of unselfish concern for or devotion to the welfare of others.
I think that it is hard too tell whether it is able to do or not because you can never tell whether one is doing it out of unselfishness because it is something they know and could lie about.
This relates to sharing and caring week because many people say that they are doing this for the good of other people, which may be true but it is usually to make them feel better about themselves.

What Americans Really Believe- Societal change in America #5
Many smaller groups are now prospering over the larger groups.  Also the belief in satan and heaven have grown, while belief in Jesus have declined.  It also talks about how church attendance in the south and midwest are much higher than the west and east parts of America.  It finally began to talk about how American churches need to recruit members or eventually they will die out.

What Americans Really Believe- Societal change in America #4
In attendance, income has no apparent effect on church attendance unless it is over 150,000 dollars a year.  Education also has no affect on the attendance of church, however, other factors do. Women tend too attend church more than men, African- Americans more than Caucasian, and widows more than married people. While divorced people have the lowest attendance rate.

What Americans Really Believe- Societal change in America #3
After the relaxation of the Catholic churches with attendance policies many people began to stop coming frequently.  Also, by the middle of the 19th century, over 1/3 of Americans belonged too a local church, however by the end of the 20th century, that number grew to over half.  However since denominations have stopped searching for more members the numbers have dropped at the same time percentage wise.
