How have you found ways to be creative during a time of uncertainty?
Hayley: It took me a second to find a new ‘rhythm’ in quarantine (no pun intended), but I’ve found that daily journaling and songwriting has really helped me stay sane. I am grateful to be in good health during such a challenging time, and to be able to channel my energy into discovering what my next album will look and sound like. 😊
Jack: I actually think AJR thrives writing about moments of uncertainty. So many of our songs revolve around trying to navigate adulthood, and make sense of a confusing world. Even though not all of our new songs are about a worldwide pandemic, it definitely mimics our confusion about the rest of our lives.
After “BANG!” what is up next for you?
Hayley: I have a few big projects up my sleeve, including my 2nd album. So I’m hoping to release some new content in the very near future!
Jack: We’re about halfway done making our next album. We’re gonna drop a new song on August 31st, kind of the next step toward this next sound we’re going for. There are some production techniques on this next album that we’ve been trying to figure out how to accomplish for the last decade. And we’ve finally figured out how to create these sounds that have been imprisoned in our heads for so long. This new album is turning out to be some of the most extreme music we’ve ever made. The angriest, the saddest, but honestly the most jovial too.
You both have amazing fanbases - do you have a favorite fan story you could share?
Hayley: One of my favorite moments was performing in Denver, CO and having hundreds of bras thrown at me!! It was the beginning of a recurring event. (LOL!)
Jack: On our last tour, we had a meet and greet in Texas. A teenage girl comes up to us, very shyly, and tells us that she’s been non-verbal for the last 10 years. And this conversation we’re having is the first time she’s had the courage to talk in a decade. And she went on to tell us how much our music has gotten her through this rough time. We were literally stunned, it was the most insane, heartwarming thing to hear.
While at home, have you had any favorite movies/music/tv shows/video games that have kept you entertained?
Hayley: I’ve been watching a ton of “Friends” reruns and playing Mario Kart. I also love binge watching any Master Class sessions; it is so informative! Though you have to be mentally prepared, it really feels like ‘class’.
Jack: Rewatching shows is so comforting during this time, because you know exactly how each storyline will end. The Office of course, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Community. All those feel good comedies.
Lightning round! Describe each of the following in one word: Who you are, what you value the most, and what you’d be if you were a food item.
Hayley:
Resilient
Human Compassion
Tuna Melt Sandwich
Jack:
Curious
Honesty

“Well, I can’t fall asleep and I’m losin’ my mind
‘Cause it’s half-past three and my brain’s on fire
I’ve been countin’ sheep but the sheep all died
And I’m tryin’ too hard but I can’t not try
Well, I can’t fall asleep and I’m losin’ my mind
'Cause it’s half-past three and my brain’s on fire (brain’s on fire)
I’ve been countin’ sheep but the sheep all died
And I’m not dead yet, so I guess I’ll be alright“
I wish you all very good sex. if you don't like sex, I wish you a very good romance. if you don't want either of them. I wish you a very good bowl of soup and some bread, mate.
ATTENTION ALL GIRLS AND LADIES: if you walk from home, school, office or anywhere and you are alone and you come across a little boy crying holding a piece of paper with an address on it, DO NOT TAKE HIM THERE! take him straight to the police station for this is the new 'gang' way of rape. The incident is getting worse. Warn your families. Reblog this so this message can get accross to everyone.
