"Hold very still," Jemima advises. She holds onto Victoria's wet paw very carefully and pulls the splinter out before the other kitten can blink. "Hurry and put it in the water again." The young Jellicle disappears for a minute, then comes back with an old towel and a clean strip of fabric to dry and wrap her friend's paw with.
"There ya go, all fixed up...you should probably have Jelly or Jenny look at it later, though. And I'd stay on your hind feet until you're told otherwise."
Her tail swishes back and forth nervously as she waits for Victoria's response.
Victoria was playing hide and seek with Etcetera and Electra. Etcetera demanded they play extreme hide and seek after immediately finding Victoria. The only thing added to the “extreme” edition of the game was the three kittens couldn’t hide in their usual spots. Victoria scurried to a part of the junkyard she hadn’t seen before. No other cat talked ever about it either. She realized it was to prevent any troublemakers from sprinting over to the area as she looked down at her paw. It looked as if a tree grew out of her palm. She realized something was wrong after struggling to pull it out. “Etcetera? Electra??” She hops out of the spot, rushing back to where she started playing with the two. They were nowhere to be found. The kitten looks around, not knowing which cat to run to. “Jemima!” She hurries over to her. “Could you help me?” @jemima-ssyllabub

"Don't worry about that now, I'm sure the adults will take care of it..."
She stares pointedly at Victoria's damaged paw for a moment. "A little of the splinter has broken off, but it doesn't seem so deep now." Jemima glances up at the other Jellicle kitten, her whiskers twitching. "I may just be able to pull it out now!"
She waits for Vicci to give the okay before she tries pulling on the jagged piece of wood again.

"Hey, it's okay..." Jemima takes Victoria's other paw. "It won't be this way forever."
Her eyes land on the pail that the white kitten has her hurt paw in. The water has the slightest tint of red to it, but she doesn't point this out to Vicci. "Go on and pull it out, and we'll have another look at it."

Jemima disappears into the Junkyard. She quickly checks every little nook for any adult who wasn't busy. Tapping on den doors and waiting for a response, she's surprised to find that everyone was taken away by whatever emergency happened at the Junkyard gate. Macavity must be causing trouble again, she thought, because she'd never noticed so many Jellicles missing from the 'Yard.
She runs back over to Victoria. Her eyes are full of empathy for her friend's pain. "Sorry," she huffs, out of breath from her run. "Something must be going on at the gate, because everyone's just...gone." Jemima glances upwards, momentarily searching the piles of trash for any signs of danger. Her gaze returns to Victoria. "Hold it just a little longer."

"Oh, Mistoffelees would make quick work of this, but I think he's with his humans right now. There's a pail of water over here...why don't you put your paw in it and see if a good soak will make it easier to get out?"
Jemima gestures over to a pail of rainwater that was surprisingly clean considering it was found in the Junkyard. She dipped her own paw in it for a second and removed it, spraying water everywhere when she shook her hand. "It's warmed from the sun. Wanna give it a try? I can keep you company while you sit, or I can go find one of the Queens and see if they can help." Her expression remains calm and her voice gentle as she speaks to Vicci.

Jemima glances over in the direction where Munkustrap guards the Junkyard. "Munkustrap will know what to do!" she takes Victoria's other paw and guides her gently over towards Munk's spot, but not before another cat hurries towards him. Her ears flicker and she can tell by the hushed whispers that something is up. Should she interrupt? Before she has a chance, though, Munkustrap and the other Jellicle disappear amongst piles of junk.
"I hope everything's okay...I haven't seen Munk look so concerned since Macavity attacked at the Jellicle Ball..."

The younger kitten gives it a try. Unfortunately for Victoria, the splinter barely budges. "Maybe we should find an adult to help..." she starts, although she's not really sure who's left in the Junkyard. "Where did you get it, anyway?" Jemima's gaze is still fixed on the splinter as she speaks, her mind puzzling over how to get it out without badly hurting her friend's paw.

Jemima immediately focuses on the white cat's paw. She takes it in her own paw very gently, avoiding the big splinter while she considers the situation. "That definitely needs to come out." The black-and-red kitten stares up at Victoria. Her brown eyes are wide with concern. "I don't want to hurt you, but I'm gonna try to pull it out. Are you okay with that?" Her eyes are almost tearing up as she says it, but her words remain strong and concise.

Jemima follows behind. Confident that the mice are no longer afraid, she hums a little tune as the group moves out of the Junkyard. She watches the mice to make sure none of them wander off. Careful not to step on them, she helps Victoria guide the mice to their new home.
Jemima pokes her head out from Demeter's usual spot in the Pipe. "Hello? Anyone there?" she glances behind her at a sleeping figure before making her escape. Taking a deep breath, she asks, "Victoria, is that you?"

Suddenly a wave of mice are flooding over to Victoria as if in a little wave. "Woah. They must think you're like...their Queen or something," Jemima whispers, although she doubts if mice even have Queens. Suddenly dozens of the little creatures are surrounding them, staring up at them with beady little eyes. "Maybe we can lead them safely out of the Junkyard now..."

"I think it's worth a shot!" she says. She wonders over to the little crate again and calmly sits, her tail flicking behind her. She breathes deeply and forces herself to sit still, barely able to contain her excitement. "Maybe you should try chirping or squeaking to them this time." she tells Victoria as she gestures to the spot beside her.

Jemima runs over to the Nursery and slips inside. She stumbles over sleeping cats and kittens quietly as she makes her way to a box at the corner of the den. Moving bundles of yarn aside, she finds her mouse head and slips it on.
Heading back over to Victoria, she calls out, "I found it! Thank the Everlasting it's still in one piece!"

Jemima's ears lay back as she sits down. "Nice going, Jem. You just made our little job harder," she tells herself. "I guess so..." Her brow furrows with frustration as she glances back at Victoria. "If we're gonna find all these mice without scaring them, maybe we need to go for a different approach?"

Jemima rushes over to the crate with the confused mouse in her paws. Apparently, her mouse-speak is *very* rusty. She nearly trips over her own paws in her haste, but eventually she reaches the crate with Victoria at her side. Forgoing all attempts at speaking in their language, the black-and-red kitten holds her mouse up to an empty crate and starts to ask, "Do you two know each other?" before the realization dawns on her.

Jemima jerks her head out of the pipe as if she's been bitten. Suddenly a few mice scurry from all directions out of the pipe, squeaking and chirping in fear. "Oh no!" the younger kitten watches as the mice run for cover. Leaping forward, she catches the smallest one in her paws before it can run away and quickly tries to use what little mouse-speak she knows to calm it down.

Jemima takes Victoria's paw and scampers over towards the oven, beside which is an upright pipe with a hole in it's middle. She gestures at Vicci to stay quiet, then slowly pushes her head through the kitten-sized hole, looking for mice.
