During this project I have predominantly used posca pens due to their bold colours being reminiscent of that of Dr Seussâ - who is my focal point of inspiration for my works. I began by doing various drawings inspired by his illustrations of higgedly-piggeldy houses, with wonky lines and stairs, utilising rough outlines of my very own tower from boxes and books, as well as the little mirrors for window inspirations.Â
Once I was pleased with my experimentation with the drawings, it was time for development. Initially, I had my heart set on doing mini Dr Seuss houses - possibly just making two, to turn into earrings as that would mean intertwining the project along with my hobbies such as my depop, which I havenât been able to lend much time to due to coursework and wanting to stay safe during COVID (avoiding leaving the house to post). However, as seen on my blog it didnât quite go to plan, so I ditched that and instead opted to decorate a plain white plate that iâd previously smashed. I drew all over with posca pens and eventually glued it back together with wood glue, still highlighting that it had been broken prior by inverting the design. As the plate is glazed, my design would probably easily scratch off - hence why I also was unable to go into more detail on it with finer pens, they simply wouldnât go onto there without rubbing off straight away/not sticking. Considering this was not my first plan, Iâm pleased with its outcome and think itâs actually really cute.

Attempt for development...
As this project is 3D, I wanted to turn my drawings into just that - so I attempted making a mini Dr Seuss house using fimo clay, which didn't turn out how I'd wanted. Reason being, i kept having to reform my creation and in doing so the colours would mix, meaning I'd have to pick spots out. Although this didn't pan out how I wanted, I had good techniques in mind such as using tin foil in the centre to use less clay and I had the required sculpting tools. Next time I think I'll get non coloured clay, as this will be better suited.Â
It looks far too messy and blobby to justify how long it took - not to mention, it is small. A different clay would definitely be better.
