How an Integrated Infrastructural and Human Relation Approach can reduce traffic congestion in Accra.
Traffic congestion in various cities across the world can really waste time for productivity and be stressful and irritating. The route to my destination after close from trainee work irritates me when the commercial vehicle I commutes moves slowly to cover the distance to my destination, and can be so frustrating when it comes to a stop for more than five minutes. The crazy aspect is that compared to other suburbs of the districts, my destination route is fairly good. For some routes, passengers and drivers could spend hours to cover a distance that should use fifteen minutes at the maximum.
The Gap minder data set provides insight into the variables to help me strengthen the research topic I have been thinking about. Going through the code book, I was more interested in the variables infrastructure in relation to transportation. My research question I developed is “How an Integrated Infrastructural and Human Relation Approach can reduce traffic congestion in Accra.” I hypothesize that An Integrated Infrastructure and Human Relation Approach Can Reduce Traffic Congestion in Accra.
Reviewing other literature on traffic management was quite extensive, with most literature covering the nature of the causes of congestion in large cities (Davis, 1992; Lartey, 1977; Richards, 1990). Others also concentrated on traffic management measures aimed at de congesting city centers or preventing congestion becoming widespread (Kawai, 1991; Smith, 1992; Suzuki, 1991). Some also include how traffic congestion is a situation that arises when road and rails network are no longer capable of accommodating the volume of movement that occurs on them (Turton & Knowles, 1982). The level of traffic over loading will also vary in time, with a particularly well marked peak during the daily journeys-to-work periods (Afukaar, 2003). A few literature has to do with an integrated approach which blends the conventional road-building and improvement measures with other schemes aimed at influencing the behavior of road users ( Abane, 1993).
I can infer from some literature that I have gone through that traffic congestion causes are multifaceted, especially in Accra where there is not only an infrastructural deficit, but the behavior of motorist all contribute to the problem of traffic congestion.
