I think a lot about Leverage (2008-2012 version), which had a very loose commitment to being set in Boston. The show was actually filmed in Portland, OR, but with an occasional recycled aerial shot of Boston thrown in for the vibes. In the Christmas episode, for instance, they included a beautiful shot of downtown Boston — clearly and obviously in mid-summer, with beautifully green deciduous trees.

I am not unaware of the negatives of Biden's presidency, and I am not trying to elide or forgive them. I'm reblogging posts about the Biden administration because I think it's really important that potential voters in the US realize that there is, in fact, a very big difference between the two parties, and voting for Biden is not just damage control--it actually does good. It's okay, you can actually feel a little excited about making meaningful progress, and not just hold your nose.

He's been very unflashy. He's not a great leader, he's not charismatic and he knows it, but he's an adroit politician and administrator, and he's been getting things done. Letting Trump win at this point would be tantamount to throwing the entire country on the bonfire. It's not a choice between bad and bad, it's a choice between meaningful, if imperfect, progress and fucking doom.

It's a lot healthier to go for a daily walk than to sign up for a gym membership you won't be using because you hate that kind of exercise. It's a lot healthier to eat a frozen meal than to skip a meal because you were too tired to cook something healthy. It's a lot healthier to take a quick shower than to procrastinate an elaborate routine for days. Don't aim so high that you won't be hitting anything!

so, as I'm sure most people who follow me are aware, I was recently diagnosed with stage IV malignant melanoma. I just began treatment yesterday, but the medical bills are already... insurmountable.

If I know one thing about myself, it's that I have a very hard time asking for help, even when I need it. I don't like feeling like a burden to people. As a result, I've spent a few weeks going back and forth with myself about whether or not to set up a gofundme to help with everything but ultimately felt too weird making one for myself.

Today my sisters took it upon themselves to make one for me, and I've been crying for a while about it.

I still feel very uncomfortable posting this. I'm still uncomfortable asking for help. But I'm going to swallow my pride, given these extraordinary circumstances, and post the link here.
