Colin was unable to stop the grin already spread across his face from growing even wider as he made his way towards Jen, cappuccino in hand. It had been so long since he’s last seen his friend and on-screen lover, it was hard to believe. They had spent every day together for years, Jen had watched his kids grow and was around for every moment in between, then before he knew it, he hadn’t seen her in years. “It happens less often now than it used to.” He welcomed her into a hug, rubbing along her back firm but gently. “But I still enjoy when it happens, of course.” The Irishman finished as he pulled away, hand gesturing towards the table Jen had picked for her to take a seat first.

“So, where do we even start? We haven’t seen each other in, what, two-three years? So much has happened for the both of us, in our personal lives and career-wise.” Colin started, resting hands over top of each other on the table. “It’s hard to believe how fast time goes. Evan’s eight now, he just turned the beginning of the month. Millie’s four. I remember you holding them both when they were just born. I can’t even wrap my head around it.” 

Nodding as she sat back down, Jen took a sip of her coffee, eyebrows arching. Evan was eight?! She remembered not long after he was born, Colin and Helen welcoming their Once family to meet the newest member of the O’Donoghue clan. “That is so wild,” she agreed. “I can’t believe they’re growing up that fast. As if I needed another reason to feel old! Both my niece and nephew are in school now, pretty soon I’m going to be that aunt that all the kids only see around Christmas time.” Jen joked, freeing her phone to pull up some pictures to share with him. “I still remember the first time I held both of them, poor Millie didn’t know what to think of me.” Jen laughed with a shake of her head. “I must have been making the weirdest face but I couldn’t help myself, watching her try to figure me out was really funny.”

The brunette leaned back in her chair and adjusted her sunglasses to sit on top of her head. “And how are you? You’re not planning your escape back to Ireland yet are you?” She teased, knowing that the LA life wasn’t for everyone. Especially since a handful of actors she knew had been moving to Texas. “Been working on anything fun?”

Next time you’re out here, let me know. I will have a whole list of things for you to see! You are too sweet Emilia, but Dan spent a good chunk of his life with me. Granted we are a lot closer now than we were growing up, but there is always that sibling dynamic where we tease each other about everything. How have you been?!

I take it they’re the type who actually like the tourist traps and requested them? I’ll be honest, I guess I’d rather experience the day to day flow of a place than tourist traps. Am I saying that because I know so few in LA myself? Possibly. If they’re the outdoorsy type though, the hiking trails are incredible. 

They love them. When they lived in Texas, they were a stone’s throw away from the San Antonio River Walk and spent hours exploring then reexploring the shops there. I also highly recommend seeing that to anyone taking a trip to Texas, and to stay in the Hotel Emma if possible. You and I are alike in that way. I love all the hidden gem places! I had to google it honestly. Both Dan and Ellie love hikes, their dog Pudge would rather be somewhere with AC.

Coffee Catch Ups || Jen & Colin

Jennifer couldn’t remember the last time she had seen Colin in person. They texted over the years of course, a few FaceTime calls, and the rare twitter exchange, but it had to have been at least two years since they had been in the same room. She sat herself out on the patio of the coffee spot they had agreed to meet at, chewing on her bottom lip as she watched people from behind her sunglasses before sending him a text to let him know she had arrived and gotten a table. 

Hearing the clattering of glasses, Jen looked up to find the young barista inside apologizing to the Irishman. A smile spread across her face with a soft laugh and she stood to greet him. “That still happens, huh?” She teased, wrapping an arm around Colin’s shoulders. “You and that eyebrow of yours.”

Ahh Texas, is that where you’re originally from? They sound like my kind of people, the beach is an amazing place. There’s bound of be some kind of old Hollywood museums, I will be shocked if there isn’t. If you’re all into nature there’s some amazing hiking spots around LA, especially up in the hills where you can see the city. The pleasure is all mine, I’m Jason.

Ellie is, Dan and I are from Illinois. Us Morrisons are beach people. I think we’re attracted to the wave sounds. Right? I will have to do some googling and find the best one. Nature, fitness, Dan and Ellie are probably into it. I know there is at least one that takes you up close to the Hollywood sign. That is definitely going on the do list. And I’m Jennifer.

Love finding hidden gems and things the locals really only know about. Those typically end up being places that you can’t help but love. Only when I was sixteen the whole world of LA was fascinating. Griffith Park is beautiful, can find some nice serene spots for a picnic too if they enjoy that. You’re welcome!! Glad I was able to help with what little information of LA I have. Now should you ever need spots in Nashville come find me I can give you the best places to visit. 

Right? When you find them, you want to share it with all of your friends but keep it to yourself at the same time. Or is that just me? I was the same way when I first went to New York, sometimes still get that giddy feeling when I go back. They are big on spending time outside, and I can’t remember the last time any of us went on a picnic. I will hit you up for sure, Nashville is one of those places I really want to see but haven’t gotten the chance to yet.

I guess it all depends on what they are in to and what they wanna see. Where are they coming from? There’s Universal Studios, Santa Monica Pier, Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Sign. I’m sure there’s a museum or art gallery near where you are as well. 

San Antonio. They already love the beach, I’m surprised that they haven’t already gone to Santa Monica Pier. Ellie is big on the old Hollywood aesthetic, so I will look into a museum or art gallery. I guess we could just walk around the street where they live and see what happens? Nice to finally meet you by the way, I’m a fan.

I bet my mom hasn’t even seen nine of my movies, let alone the same one that many times. I think Mariah may have been over exaggerating but I’m just going to do with she literally saw it that many times. Makes me feel better. My weekend has definitely bought me back to reality and kept me humble with my kids not giving a shit about any of it. That’s good, where were you filming?

As would anyone else lucky enough to know that Mariah has seen a movie of theirs. Really? So they are past the age where if you fake cry or act upset, they come over to comfort you? That’s a bummer. Exactly the reason I have a dog! She gets just as excited as I do. I was up in Calgary, Alberta.

You’re right, LA is just about as glamorous as NYC. Cities are the worst, that’s why I moved on the outskirts. Whats the difference in driving an hour to work on a scenic route when it takes that long just to get outside of the city and onto the already backed-up freeway? Damn. Any other suggestions I might make, you would’ve hit yesterday.

Aw c’mon! Don’t shit on NYC like that, I love it there. You get to experience all four seasons, there’s always a theater show to go see, and last time I went out on the town it did not disappoint. Though I do love a scenic route so smart move on your part, couldn’t totally part ways with the Irish countryside vibes huh? Lay them on me. Ellie is always looking for places to draw inspiration from.

You’re lucky, I fell victim to them one of the first times I ever went out to LA when my music first started taking off. Was obsessed with all of it, now not so much, probably one of my least favourite places to be. If you’re looking for suggestions though I’d start with Griffith Observatory and Park, Santa Monica Pier, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. 

I’ve always been the type to go out looking for the hidden gems, but Dan is the complete opposite. He and Ellie have already spent two Saturdays sniffing out the best brunch spots near the beach so the Santa Monica Pier would be right up their alley! I am definitely going to have to take them to Griffith Park. Thank you for the great suggestions.

Yes, you should. I see the attraction to a point but nobody really wants to be in a sidewalk mosh pit and only have a picture of Debbie Reynold's star with a piece of gum stuck to it to remember the moment. Funny you mention Disneyland, we’ve been there all day.
