The innovation more important than fancy foods or artsy experiences is the North Shore pedicab service. Vibrant, on the go, green, and culturally rich describe the company best. The cabs will be North Shore's fun way of quite literally bringing people to the hub of the Wheel House. The cabs will become North Shore's main means of transport, as well as teach customers more about the vibrant Indigenous history present.

Post 18 - Brainstorming major costs
THE BIKES
Paying rider employees (rates need to be similar to what a delivery driver or taxi driver gets paid).
Mechanical upkeep (occasional replacement wheel or part and the cost of an onsite bike mechanic about once monthly, or bimonthly depending on use).
Aspects of the project that require the involvement of the relevant Indigenous groups (The people from Yerrol and the Yaggerah peoples.)
Creating audio recordings that go along with the tours to provide relevant Indigenous history.
Commissioning an Aboriginal artist to create art for the cab wraps.

Post 17 - Feasibility, sustainability and enduring significance.
The routes of the tours can be regularly changed, giving customers a refreshed experience of catching a ride on the bikes each time they return to visit.
The bikes by nature are sustainable, because even if they end up not being manually ridden (though that would be the best financial and economically friendly choice, because of how flat North Shore is), they could be electrically powered.
The only maintenance required, would be the changing of routes, updating of advertising on the wraps of the bikes, and mechanical maintenance about once monthly, which may result in repairs (though, with good riders these repairs should be few and far between).

Post 16- Audience engagement, ethics and diversity
One major issue with North Shore currently, is the accessibility. The area is far away, and even upon getting there the installations and areas are removed from one another by great distances. Not to mention that the heat and sun are problems for just about anyone in much of the space.
The rickshaws offer physically challenged patrons, the elderly, and anyone with accessibility issues a calm, comfortable, and fun way to travel to and from, as well as around the North Shore area. Mostly though, the appeal is towards young families. The funness of riding the bikes is appealing for any child, and unlike other social spaces, the North Shore precinct with the addition of the bikes becomes an easier option to get to, as issues such as parking or a long walk to get to the main area can be disregarded. This generally higher level of accessibility and fun associated with visiting will promote return engagement from families.

Post 15 - Project originality
I have worked for a Rickshaw company before on a long-term basis, and understand the requirements to maintain the bikes, the nature of the work, and the necessities in terms of good employees and what kind of routes would be reasonable for the bikes to take. So my taking part in guiding the startup of the rickshaw installation is of utmost importance. Additionally, I am connected with suppliers of rickshaws in the United States, whom I have prior experience of.
Unlike other pay as you go Rickshaw companies, this project will be free for customers of the North Shore precinct. This way, it can be targeted towards bringing in customers who may be challenged physically and giving other patrons history-rich tours of the North Shore area.

post 14 - The project in response to the client brief
The Rickshaw idea successfully fulfills the requirements of the client brief.
It is future focused, being a business based on a renewable form of transport.
It is also community-focused, and through advertisement on the bikes, as well as potentially transport from the bikes themselves the business will quite literally bring customers to North Shore. It also gives North Shore a way of making the site more accessible for customers arriving down the river by ferry.
It is movable, in a place where many businesses are going to come and go, and changes to the environment going forward are expected, the Rickshaws are in response quite adaptable.

Post 13 - client brief challenge 1
The implementation of a rickshaw business would respond strongly to this section of the client brief, outlined in 'challenge 1'.
Tumblr media
This business by nature is sustainable, as it is centered around a non-energy-consuming form of transportation. It is also innovative, as having site-specific transport to make North Shore more distinctive is an innovation in itself.
Via the Indigenous historical guides tours, as well as Aboriginal art on the wraps of the Rickshaws, this project concept fulfills the requirement for Indigenous engagement and representation.
Regarding community, just seeing the Rickshaws will foster questions in people's minds such as "Where did those bikes come from?" and "Can I ride one? What is the art about?". This will attract customers back to the location of the bikes where they stay at their rank in the wheelhouse, expanding the community of North Shore.

Post 12 - Going forward with the Rickshaw idea
My best concept, and the one that I feel most confident about is the implementation of a rickshaw rank at the wheelhouse.
the originality of the project compared to other rickshaw services, can be achieved in multiple ways.
Guides tours can be offered that are site-specific, and inform the customer base of the site's heritage and Aboriginal and or maritime history as clients are ridden from destination to destination. The Rickshaws may even be painted similarly to the ground with Aboriginal art, both enriching the experience and reminding the customer base of the cultural history.
Seeing as the landscape is quite flat, riding the cabs manually should be very easy. The wide spaces with concrete, aswell as along the pier should lend themselves to safe travel when considering that pedestrians are also in the general area.

POST 11- Inspirations
Here are some images relevant to the concepts that inform ideas about both the Rickshaw idea and the Baseball-cage idea:

IDEAS - POST 10
Batting Cage business, to be implemented at the Wheelhouse
I suggest an automated batting Cage with two lanes be implemented into the wheelhouse building, in a small corner.
In my vision, the business is two batting 'cages' that position clients at one end of a felt green pitch, and an automatic baseball pitching machine at the other end, spanning a total of about 80m^2.
The implementation of this business would provide a fun, easily managed facility that particularly would entice the market of young people (15-35) that enjoy a more physical activity for their outings from home.
This business would contrast strongly form the other forms of entertainment at North Shore, which focus primarily on entertainment through media, art, or the consumption of interesting foods at Eat St.

IDEAS - POST 9
rickshaw business implementation in front of the wheelhouse.
Having a form of transport available will be a great way to both increase accessibility for those who find the expansive areas troublesome, as well as bring a fun way to entice youth in the area as a different means of transport.
The bikes coupled with bench seats in the back (such as the brisbane Greencabs) could be fixed with awnings to protect clientele from the weather and create a comfortable, climate-friendly means of transport for all over the North Shore area.
The service would have varying rides based upon purpose (historical tour or forsake of transport). We would offer a variety of services from scenic rides along the river to short trips from locations in the immediate area. The service ranks would be based primarily at the Wheel House, and the bikes could be stored in one of the nearby areas with indoor space, and then ridden to site every day.

Brainstorming - POST 8
Ideas I have had are based off of:
The lack of cover over some of the areas discussed.
Client brief and the guidelines to what is needed for the success of the project.
The expanse of space available at North shore.
Things that are appealing to young people and children.
Interactive activities that are more likely to excite over anything.

The green area is well maintained and in a good central location. It could be better utilized though, because at the moment it doesn't seem to house anything in particular or have any event related to it directly.

References to Indigenous history can be seen in the artworks on the ground and corrugated metal.

Areas between locations mentioned in previous posts, the space intended for the wheelhouse to be built and the construction area are all quite hot and not well protected. They are flat, open and there is a lot of potential for development.

post 4, general first observations
At the moment, North Shore is temperate, but hot in some locations. The wind is nice along the shore, and the roofed, open locations are good. However, open areas such as the hill, and the middle of the construction area are quite hot. Additionally, walking between the locations is quite irritating in the heat.
Referencing to Aboriginal history is most notable in the artworks along the corrugated iron, and on the ground in some areas. I did not note many other instances where references to indigenous history were present.
There is a moderate amount of referencing to the maritime history already, in the place titles and the infrastructures evident history.
It would be better to have people facing the river, as the industrial area is quite exposed and unattractive.
